TV show -REINCARNATED - Past Lives

I've seen one or two episodes. Yes, they are very good. It's very similar to the Canadian show that had "Tom" who was a seminary student in Ireland in the 1800's. I think the Canadian show is in our video archives.

Here is a program about a German woman who remembers being a little girl in a nearby castle several hundred years ago. It's in German with English subtitles.

I watched this show when it was on a few months ago and found it very compelling. The depiction of regression seemed quite realistic to me, and some of the revelations were moving. Some time afterwards, I was poking around the internet to see whether the show had garnered an audience. To my dismay, I stumbled across a rather cranky post complaining that the regressed subjects were all actors. Unwilling to take such an allegation at face value, I did my own investigation and was pretty quickly able to track down the CVs of about half the people who appeared on the program. They are, in fact, actors. I can't speak for the others. Now, the hypnotist is based in LA and this was a pilot season--it's possible they opted to use actors since other subjects might be leery of appearing on television, and there's no reason why actors can't be regressed to recall past lives. It does give a somewhat unfortunate impression, however. I'll almost certainly watch the second season when it airs, however I'll probably do a little digging to see whether they're still using actors as subjects ;)

I'm also grateful that this type of program is being made and finding an audience. I do think it needs to be produced as scrupulously and rigorously as possible, or else it runs the risk of encouraging ready skeptics.

That's sad.. :( they're too many supernatural shows out there that are blatantly phony.. Anything that comes off the sci fi channel us for sure.

I think it's pretty common nowadays. Call it "reenactment" or "recreation". They probably think it's safer and faster to use trained actors instead of amateurs. There may also be legal reasons. As long as the STORY is true. That's the main thing.

Yea you're right! I assumed it was another of those sci fi shows...

Hmmm, I'm actually NOT ok with it being a "reenactment," especially since they didn't disclose it as such. Certainly on many shows (including, possibly the recent child past lives show?) they include dramatic reenactments, but the producers always make it clear that they're not showing actual footage. I think the producers of Reincarnated: Past Lives went to great lengths to make it appear that these session were actually being filmed in real time, as were the research revelation portions. If it was a "reenactment" why didn't they include a disclosure at the beginning or end? That just strikes me as unacceptably deceptive!

On the other hand, like I said, it may be that they hired (willing) actors to actually undergo hypnosis, filmed the process, and filmed the reveal. Why shouldn't actors have past lives just like the rest of us? Why shouldn't they be moved by the experience? I think using actors as opposed to "lay" volunteers may encourage skeptics, but I'm not, per se, opposed if it was done for logistical reasons during the pilot season. That's the only reason why I'm willing the reserve judgment.

If, however, they're using unhypnotized actors without disclosure (even if they're "reenacting" a true scenario,) I'd feel duped and I think a skeptic would be perfectly justified in dismissing the project. As far as I'm concerned "undisclosed reenactment" is no better than fakery and completely undermines the message of the show. If they're really trying to start a serious public discussion about something as unfamiliar (to many people) as reincarnation, I think they have a responsibility to behave ethically, forthrightly, and sincerely. And really, shouldn't people behave that way ALL the time, regardless of whether they're in television or not?

As for legal explanations, as an attorney, I can think of no reason not to disclose a reenactment (and I would certainly advise the producers to disclose were I their lawyer). They would have been completely incompetent not to get the written informed consent of any actual hypnotic subjects both before and after the sessions No one can be forced to appear on a television show, but I think there would be plenty of willing volunteers. There is no legal justification for presenting a dramatic reenactment as an actual "live" event, at least that I can think of off hand.

I follow Sherilise who was on the show.According to her she just happens to be an actress who underwent a regression. All the footage was real.

Argonne, thank you for the link to the German program--it was excellent! What a great case study and such strong confirmations. I'm not German, and I've never heard of Saint Elisabeth, her husband, or those castles, so I don't know how widely known they are there, but Lisa (the subject) certainly didn't seem to know much about them before her regression. Just fascinating...

Comparing Lisa's regression to those in the Reincarnated: Past Lives program, you can really see how realistic those sessions seem. Shelise's session, in particular, was extremely moving and seemed to have great personal resonance for her.

I have a friend who is an actor, and I have seen many recruitment posts for this sort of thing since I've been helping him look for work. Basically, they posted it on an acting site, looking for people willing to be regressed. That way they know the person doesn't mind being on film (they're actors, after all) and the structure of being on TV is already understood.

They do this with most reality TV, actually. There is a massive pool of "acting talent" that is basically ordinary people who take on background roles or are trying to break into movies and such. So these shows just tap into the sites that these people use as a job-finding resource.

That makes sense. It would save a lot of hassle trying to work with inexperienced people, especially with the tight budgets they have today.

I've been watching Ghost Inside my Child with my stepdaughters, we've seen most of them! This is a good video I came across earlier in the week. :) Short but good. :)

Thanks for all the great links here! I definitely will be watching these. I just hate it when shows make it seem like reincarnation is some sort of paranormal event and not normal. If they can present it in a rational manner, all the better!
