PTSD About Past Life

Trent McDaniel

Active Member
Ok so this all started when I was 16 exactly 2 years ago I walked past my television saw flowers a valley and a sunset and boom I had a huge emotional response felt like PTSD except it didn’t hurt or anything infact it felt beautiful I felt like I didn’t know why I forgot these things. I didn’t fully remember I didn’t know whether it was a memory of me as a kid a dream or a past life, and I still don’t really know... I’m just struggling to find out if it’s a past life or not. Since 2 years ago I can still get the emotional response if I think about it really hard or if I completely ignore it eventually it hits all of a sudden it’s called involuntary memory. So basically it’s like the feeling of me remembering this place last about 1-5 seconds in that time I try to remember what it is where I was and what was going on but it feels like my brain can’t process the information like a big huge man is blocking my brain from the answer and then the feeling leaves and I don’t remember.

It’s hard to explain. And I might sound crazy, but it feels like it’s something very important. Like I don’t realize why I forgot it I can only remember the emotional response to the memory like when your thinking back about the day your grandma died and it’s a sad day imagine not knowing what happened that day and instead all you get is the emotion of that day it’s like that, I don’t know specifically what happened I just know the emotional trigger. I know that whatever it is it’s super important to me I feel like I’d do anything to protect whatever it is... I feel like I wouldn’t be the same if I forgot... so every day I try to remember but it feels like I can’t remember. I can only remember the emotional trigger of the event can someone help me with this?

Half way through a year after it happened I gave up on remembering cause it just caused me distress like you try something for so long and you get no results. I usually listen to music and look at a sunset to try to remember the place but all I get is bits and pieces of something I lost a long time ago a lot of times when I try remembering it I see myself as being a kid again 4 years old or 5 I see myself in kindergarten so my idea is that when I was that young I knew what it was maybe I knew my past life or had a dream about it then and I’m shocked I forgot because when I was that young I knew what it was . I will also say that I have a intense fear of pain, boredom, and knives, yes specifically knives I rather get shot in the head than stabbed. I’ve also had vivid dreams of me being stabbed and when I wake up the pain doesn’t go away for a few moments... could this also be a key to my past life? I’m very claustrophobic but to be fair my dad messed with me a lot and held me under the covers and I got super scared CAuse I was claustrophobic don’t know if he triggered that or my past life, pain I’m not sensitivity to it just scared of it idk why but it’s mainly knives and idk how my body even can process the pain of being stabbed but it did...

Welcome to the forum, Trent. I am sorry to read of your distress. As you said you aren't sure whether it is a pl memory or one from your current life, have you asked your mum and other relatives if there is such a scene from when you were young that could be significant? Perhaps an outing with a family member, or possibly even a childminder, nursery or school? A knife might not be directly involved with the scene, but could be another memory of something that happened - or that you heard about - around the time of an outing to a beautiful area, and therefore became intertwined with it. It would help to either trace the memory to this life, or to point to it being a memory from a pl.

Almost all of my pl memories have been natural. Same as remembering bits and pieces of my current life, but further back. I went to a super qualified hypnotherapist only one time, to help me remember someone in particular. She was so able that she somehow also 'saw' and described who I saw. She was also so genuine that when I wanted to book a further session she wouldn't, and said it was important to not go into a situation of what would now be unrequited love from the past. She was right, although it still took me years to 'let go' of that tremendous, spiritual love enough to be ready to move on. However, the point is that there might not be many pl hypnotherapists as highly experienced and qualified as she was. There will also be those who may inadvertantly do lasting damage. So you really have to be careful who you go to, if you go to anyone. I believe the forum founder has a very good reputation, but you might not live in her area or even be able to afford the fee.

I haven't a clue about self-hypnosis to regress, CD's, yt videos, 'how to' websites and books, so I can't recommend nor could I advise how to protect your mind and spirit during, or how to come out of a traumatic pl. Nonetheless, there are Admin and other staff as well as other members who are apparently very experienced and capable, and no doubt they can and will give you suggestions as to how to most safely regress, and how to not cling to a pl but to be able to leave it and its memories behind, if and when you decide you want to remember.

Btw, I think we are not supposed to use our own full names on the forum, and that is for our own privacy as well as protection from potential stalkers. Just in case you are showing your real name. I use my real first name which is common enough, but not my real surname, for instance. Just a thought.

Best wishes,

Angie

No it’s not my real name thank you for the concern, I mean it could have been a outing I guess I have never asked them, if it was would have had to take place before 1st grade and even then my parents were never together and why would it have such a emotional impact for me at that young? Idk maybe I should just let it go but I wish I could remember so then I could let go the urge to remember it is annoying it’s like someone teasing you with soemthing you want badly and the denying it to you every time you get closer if I’m able to see it once I think I’d then be able to let go. I’ve also had random memories of other things that don’t fit in this time line or life however they haven’t been as significant as the one I mentioned think I had about 10 others but they seem so far back I can’t even get a grasp of how to remember them lol, anyways thank you for your help

I second Kens post Trent. Let things come in there own good time. My advice is not to push it. I pushed the boundaries and have Chronic PTSD from it. Its no laughing matter. Sometimes its a relief just to accept an itch you can't scratch. I wish you well.

Somethings are best kept secret and forgotten which is why almost everyone forgets their previous lives otherwise they will be crippled by their past experience as most lives are anything but peaches and cream. Should you press on as some do so with this in mind that you will have to face whatever there is head on which is always easier said than done. That all said there is usually some good to be found but again some people have had some truly horrendous lives and should that be your case you would be tapping into a world of pain.

Finding the cause of PTSD isn't always a door you want to open, at least not without the help of a professional psychologist. Many of us have done or experienced the unthinkable, and sometimes those memories are best left forgotten in time. I saw flashes of some pretty horrendous things in a past life, and that was enough for me.

It can really mess you up in this life if you get too far in.

Seems like it could be to do with a pl then, and that it is 'begging' to be remembered - then resolved and let go of. However, bearing in mind your still young age, it could be a good idea to leave it alone until you are quite a bit older, experienced and have gained a bit of the 'tough cookie' character that comes with the knocks of life. If there is anything particularly distressing, that tough cookie character will help you get through it more. If it is important enough that you deal with resolving it during this lifetime then it will niggle you from time to time. If it isn't then you will forget it anyway.

I would leave it until at least mid 40's. I know that seems a lifetime away - and for a teenager it is over double their lifetime, but unless it reaches crisis point that you look into it sooner you will benefit by waiting that long, as you will be stronger to cope with anything unpleasant. Who knows? This forum might still be here albeit with different people, or there may be another one by then with people who are experienced and can advise and share as we on here do.

This isn't a rebuff, and I am sure i'm not alone in sincerely hoping you come back with any more experiences and questions any time you need to. You are most welcome anytime.

Best wishes,

Angie

I don’t think it’s ptsd I was just wondering if it was it could probably lead to ptsd as when I’m remembering these things it feels like I’m opening a door that should be closed but at the same time it feels like I shouldn’t have forgotten these things

40 doesn’t seem like a life time I wish it did. Life is so short I’m already 18 feel like life is going to fast I don’t even think I’ve fully released I’m in my second semester of college... sometimes I just wish I could remember whatever it is that’s bugging me whether it’s a pl or something else and leave and return their... this life has nothing good left.. I’ll be 40 before I know it which sucks. Its already been a year since my life started to suck and I’m halfway to 19... I’ll be 45 in a week lol anyways thanks for the advice all of you I think of remembering my past life and even if it hurts I’d still wanna see what happened just because it made me so happy sometimes I cry at night about it tears of joy.. when I do it’s usually a escape of real life. Whats more is I have voices that tell me to look into it and she tells me that if I remember she will grant me a eternity of happiness but I guess that’s bad a entirely different problem. I’m gonna research more about invuntary memory and past lives and don’t worry I haven’t tried to look into my past life for about a week now

I know you might feel that life sucks at 18 / 19 -- but believe me, it doesn't. You don't have dependants, hopefully you don't have too many responsibilities.

What would I have told myself at your age? Just keep doing what you're doing, don't settle, keep exploring! I always used to tell myself when I wanted to know more about my past life that it will still be there for me when I felt ready, and guess what? I was right. It was there for me when I was ready a good eight years later. Those eight years did make a world of difference to me.

Ok I’ll try to look at your comment in a normal humans eyes since I haven’t in awhile mara, college drop out or haven’t dropped out yet I’m taking no classes and using the college space to live on and lie to my parents. Responsibilities? A lot but I’m a failure to my family and couldn’t study and failed going to be homeless soon, I would be scared if I didn’t have aisling. How I look at your comment as I am now, well I can’t even put it into words my thoughts and ideas have exceeds that. Living a normal life? To late for that. You don’t want that anyways. But yeah if I do some how become normal again if that’s possible anywyas. Then I’ll take your advice :)

Well, I did drop out from my studies when I was fourteen. Everyone wrote me off as a bad case.

I've been as close to homeless as you can get, meaning as a young married couple I had to move back in with my parents, with a young child to boot.

Have been married, had three kids, moved countries twice, moved houses six times in those eight years.

Life is hard. I don't want to impose on your personal situation, but shutting out your parents might not be a good idea. If you open up to them about the problems you are having they may be more receptive than you think. Certainly I can't imagine they'd want you on the streets.

I agree with Landsend. You would be amazed at the depth of parents and G'parents love and understanding and how when they don't have the answers they know how to go about finding them out, to help you. They will be far more hurt and disappointed if you don't trust them enough to tell them, and be open with them.
Also, there must be a college counsellor, social worker or tutor who you can confide in. It shouldn't matter whether you are attending classes. You are registered there.
You mention voices, then a 'she'. Is it one or more? Do you 'hear' internally, as in 'inside yourself'? Or audibly, as if someone is in the same room? Which can be a pointer as to how you are coming to experience these memories.

Best wishes,

Angie

Wow. Well a young person needs the guidance of an older experienced man or woman. Do you know who the college counsellors or social workers are? You need to make arrangements to speak with one asap. You should mention the voice/s as that can be a reaction to stress and depression, and isn't necessarily spiritual. So it is important to mention it, as it can help them to understand if you are depressed and how much. It will help them help you. Will you speak to one of them at college, please? We aren't physically there to step in and help sort housing and support for you, but the councillors/social workers are, and they know of all the resources available for you.

Best wishes,

Angie

I’m using the college dorms to stay in so I’m not homeless so I doubt they care about me, also I’ve heard the voices since before I got depressed heard them since like 8th grade or 9th idk I had a counselor but she wasn’t for mental health just for grades and I cut things off from her because she told me one week to sign up for next semester classes and I didn’t so I just hid in my room and didn’t accept her calls

Sorry to read that counsellor wasn't more helpful. I'm in Britain, where we have the NHS which means it is paid for by taxes and there is no charge at the point of use. As far as I know, most healthcare in the USA is private. However, I understand some clinics and hospitals are free and there must be a different counsellor, or maybe a social worker would be better, who can suggest how to gain help for depression. If not, a tutor you maybe got along with ok when you were going for lessons?

Best wishes,

Angie

That doesn't mean 'mad' or something to be ashamed and frightened of. It is the people who seek and accept help at an early stage, often in their teens who go on to recover well. It's when people don't seek and accept help that it becomes so serious. Rather like if a small skin injury starts to go septic, and we get treatment before it goes gangrenous. We can all become unwell in mind or body because the brain is physical, organic. There is no difference in how fragile and vulnerable both our body and brains are. Trauma - short or long term such as seeing or experiencing a nasty accident, or even a lot of arguments between parents - can trigger the release of a chemical which triggers a chemical imbalance that causes depression. Maybe slow at first but increasingly difficult to overcome. One of our family suffers from a depressive illness but because he wouldn't come to the doctor when he was 14, it became worse and he began seriously breaking down at only just 20. It has had consequences that has largely ruined his life and impacted heavily on the rest of our family. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. If he had braved up and come to the Doctor at an earlier stage it could have almost certainly been stopped with a few courses of the modern meds that would have helped to re-adjust the chemical imbalance and he could have avoided breaking down and it would have been just a blip in his life and he would be ok now.
Of course, this doesn't mean that you haven't had part of a memory from a past life. You might have had but it seems to me that it's become tangled up with disappointments and feeling abandoned in this life. Please, this time when you explain to a counsellor or maybe better a social worker for young peoples safeguarding, accept their phone calls and keep all appointments. If one isn't so good at their job then insist on seeing another. It isn't fair for one so young to bear this alone, so also speak or write to other family, older siblings, G'parents and so on and be truthful about the voice/s as it will help them understand that you aren't being deliberately 'wayward' but that something has gone wrong for you and you need a good adult's help to put it right.

Your life will become so much happier when you take those first steps. Do please come back and let us know how you are. If I weren't an old disabled lady in England, if I were nearer to you, I would come and sit with you or in the waiting room while you have your first appointments. I would be there to help you have courage. If I, a stranger, would do that for a youngster in distress then there will be other people there who are like me and will help. They can't reach out to you unless you reach out and let them know first, kinda how you have reached out to us here. So, please do that.

Best wishes,

Angie

Trent, I do recommend getting some help as Angie says. Hearing voices can have a spiritual origin, but can also be a sign of serious mental health issues that need looking at.
I would get help but it’s kinda like I’m gonna be homeless so can’t really get help and if I wasn’t homeless I’d be really happy and wouldn’t even feel the need to have to get the voices out of my head, fun fact one day I tried to ignore the voices and it was literally hell every second she was telling me to do something. Looking at it in a realistic perspective my family has a history of mental illness and for some reason doctors don’t know what it is or my grandma hasn’t gotten me tested for it. Non realistic point of view I don’t have a mental illness. I’m just the only one who can see past everything and people are treating me like I’m crazy just so I’ll be normal and not think about that kinda stuff

Trent,

Sometimes past life issues can cause mental issues in the present. Sometimes mental issues mix up with the past. As Angie says, early prevention is preferable. I’ve suffered for years and years w/ depression and only just gone on anti depressant meds’ this very month after my own mental health nosedived. Reason being that I have kids and a family who need me.

You say mental health issues run in your family... that’s often the case. Depression runs in the male side of my family.

Sorry to read that, Landsend, but really happy you are now receiving treatment for your own sake as well as for your childrens sakes. It takes bravery to face up to it privately, then more courage to seek and accept help but once someone has they begin to recover and have a better life. I'm sure it will be so for you.

Best wishes,

Angie

Similar to how we all have the propensity for cancer in us, we all have the propensity for depressive illness. Being brought up around family who suffer from it was likely the trigger that started it in you. Being brought up by even one depressive adult increases a child's likelihood of it by almost double. Years ago, society and even Doctors weren't as well informed and understanding of it as now, and that may have discouraged your older relatives from seeking help.
Today, there are brain scans that can help greatly to diagnose, and the old types of meds are largely replaced with newer types that aren't as bad with side effects. They all have side effects of course but not as bad as the old meds.

You may avoid becoming homeless if you quickly seek help and even if you don't, you are likely to not be left homeless for long if professionals know your problem is depression, not laziness. You will be the one in your family to break the mould, break the chain, break the cycle of depression and become well. It is imperative that you speak to a counsellor/social worker, or both, and a Doctor asap - Monday if you can see one.

You do want to be well and have a nice life, don't you? I am sure you do, so please just take those first steps, sweetie. You never deserved to suffer depression, you don't deserve it now, so go and begin getting that better life by talking to people who want to and will help you. You can work out past lives in a few years if you want to. Right now your current life is most important.

Best wishes,

Angie
Gives me major anxiety when talking to anyone irl about depression and mental illness so I don’t think I can unless I’m forced to. Also I have a question let’s say I meet people from my past life I heard when you do you sorta know they are from your past life you feel a connection... would it be healthy to become close to that person again? A lot of people have said it’s a bad idea online and I can see why but still.

Trent, I sometimes become a very direct kind of person on issues like this, but your focus on secondary issues and worries about the future are good places to HIDE. We all do it to one extent or another as it allows us to postpone the steps we know deep down that are necessary. My concern is that if the 'kicking the can down the road' goes on too long, the problems have become so compounded that you truly won't like the resulting position. Please take a serious look at your choices, abilities, hopes, and opportunities and take the first steps to reach the place you would like (or need) to be.

Absolutely agree with all of this, Ken. Eminently sensible.

I think I read somewhere here about doing counseling/therapy was forbidden, I could not find it just now, but I want to provide something I recall using with a good success rate that anyone can do (Yeah, sorry, it is an old NLP technique). I found it to be useful because the therapist does not need to know anything about the problem, causes, background, or anything else, and the client does not have to state anything about the problem - super spooky to start doing all those years ago for me!

Of course, being present with the client was important since it involves a light trance, members here seem able to produce that themselves, so I'm putting this out here in hopes that it is useful.

As we all know, we are much more than what we are aware of, and we have answers within us that we are seeking, but are not clear to us at this time. I ask the client to relax and get comfortable and then indicate to me when they are ready to proceed by raising a finger (obviously, without me being there, you need an internal feeling or something). You would then be asked to 'go into yourself' and ask this wise part of yourself to provide you with three good options to successfully reach your positive goal, these options do NOT need to register in your consciousness, they remain an 'unknown' to you for now, but you will know when the three options have been given. At that point, thank that wise part of you and bring yourself back to the present. I then assure them that they will probably implement their options within the next week or so.

Well, my life ain't peaches and cream lol
And I am just a museum conservator!
I agree that the forgetfullness is very 'handy", and when we come to face past experiences the reason is because there are things to be seen to. Fortunately, when they come to us, it is for personal correction.

Mine isn't at all, most people tend to break down going to alcoholism and drug use sometimes suicide when in the same situations but I've been doing my best to be responsible keeping everything together the best I can. I do envy those who do generally have an easier way with life not having to deal with as much and having better options in life as well social mobility not needing to be just another worker drone. Would love to indulge in the artistic side and ditch the rat race.
