Masaru Emoto's frozen water drop experiments

Recently, I had an opportunity to view the two-and-a-half hour video entitled, "What the Bleep Do We Know: Down the Rabbit Hole", which had a basic plot, which enabled the producer to introduce some of the most current scientific theories and experiments. I had previously viewed short excerpts of the video, which had quite a bit of interesting "scientific" material. Upon viewing the video in its entirety I realized that the overall plot and accompanying information was built around the day-to-day observations of a 30-ish photographer, played by the wonderful actress, Marlee Matlin. She provided a great vehicle in which to present otherwise dry and difficult concepts.

Apparently, she was very dissatisfied with her life after a bad marriage, which resulted in very poor self-esteem. A turning point in her view of herself involved the issue of self-affirmation, which was supported by actual experiments by Masaru Emoto in 1998 involving drops of frozen water from all over the world, which were each subjected to various emotional treatments before being frozen and photographed. Supposedly, the water droplets that were given positive verbal treatment exhibited pleasing geometric structures. The water droplets that were verbally abused showed no such form. As a result of these experiments, our heroine remembered what someone had said to her about our bodies being composed of 95% water. So, her life suddenly improved as she began to give herself "good thoughts". Hooraayyy!

Now, the deductions of these experiments may well be true; and my own intuition is to believe in the possibility on a "gut" or spiritual level. However, the film portrays these experiments as main-line science; when, in fact, these results have not been duplicated. And, as one will find out here, Mr. Emoto's intentions are to sell his water, which may greatly bring into question his motives and objectivity.

I would ask anyone to give their opinion and experiences regarding this story; and how ready people seem to be to accept some internet and media claims without further investigation. What would you call "adequate" sources in support of scientific and paranormal claims?

I remember reading about a study done to plants where some were played calm relaxing music and others some kind of heavy metal. The ones with the heavy metal didn't grow very well or died according to the researchers. I'm not sure if that studies been repeated either. It may have been a researcher who was tired of their kids music and was looking for some science to back him up when he told the kids to turn it down.

My totally non scientific experience in real life has been that if I get too positive or too sure about something it doesn't work out how I thought. In order to not jinx myself I try to be humble. I'm stuck between not wanting to be negative but also trying not to be too positive. Yes, I'm superstitious.

I've heard of people talking about the theory of putting positive thoughts out will bring good luck in. There is a name for it, I just can't think of it right now. That guy may be trying to cash in on that fad and maybe that theory actually works for some people. I've been around long enough to notice that it doesn't apply to me though. I'll stick with keeping my thoughts neutral, lol. ;)

I think the plant experiments were conducted by a number of scientists and even the public with mixed, but mostly positive results. In spite of all these experiments, it was Prince Charles (the current one), who caused the world to believe wholeheartedly. Interest in and lessons from the experiments has, unfortunately, fallen away, and I constantly witness people abusing plants, cutting grass, trimming trees, and even eating them! Oh, the tragedy! :butbut:

The positive thoughts bringing good fortunate fad of 20 years ago was referred to as positive visualization, I believe.

The plant experiment I remembered reading about when I was a teenager, so it's been awhile. That's why it's pretty foggy in my head. I know I can kill plants without any kind of loud music playing and no peaceful music seems to keep them alive either, lol.

If you're cooking and eating vegetables, they could be having a telepathic empathy reaction. Stop eating vegetables immediately, and switch to meat.

Now that my little guy is asleep I read through that site better.

It would be interesting if they could repeat that experiment. I know that nice words can work well with living creatures, human and animal, to help them be calmer. Even if the person or animal doesn't understand what you're saying, the tone of voice matches the meaning of the words. When I was a kid I lived on a farm so I had lots of animals to practice on. A few family members would sometimes be gruff when around the animals and all it did was agitate them. They didn't think it mattered since they didn't know what they were saying anyways. I was a softy for animals (not to the point of vegetarianism ;) , I didn't tell them that though) so the animals liked me better. I read a lot as a kid and had come across a book somewhere that talked about the affect of words on people and animals so I had put it to practice.

I guess it's possible that it could affect other living things as well and maybe even elements. Maybe if I talk nice to the plants AND the water (and remember to give the plants the water.....) maybe something green will survive me.

There are several books that refer to the power of sound upon living things, and one site here goes into the subject. There was a very good book that I read years ago, which treated the subject in a most interesting way, but I can't remember the title.

Now your talking......Your on one of my favorite topics....plants and animals

I have been gardening and growing house plants for over 50 years. I have great good luck with them.

Wednesday, if watering has been your problem....give your plants names. You will be surprised at how well you remember after that. You DO have to put your plants in the right light also. If your not sure....put them in an East window.

I also remember the experiments where plants responded to music....classic being preferred....and to torture...where they responded even if the threat was to a different plant.

When I go shopping etc. I play classical music on the radio and ask Abbie (my dog) to go to bed on the couch. When I come home.....I have to wake her up...

A few years ago my Weeping Fig tree died. Her name was Weeping Willie. She was so large I had to cut her back a number of times. I put her on the porch in the summe sun and turned the hose on her often.

I always talked to her and told her how beautiful she was. At Xmas I decorated her with lights in the sunroom......The......I moved. It was a very dark house and Willie needed light. Over the next few years she failed and finally died. She was 20 years old. I called the nursery to ask how long a Fig tree could live.....hoping they would say 20 years......Alas.....the answer was 40 years. I don't need to tell you that I cried....I cried my head off for days. It was like I had lost a dear friend.

I always used a liquid fertilizer from a company called Shultz. It's 7 drops to a quart of water and you use it every time you water. Very easy because you don't have to remember.

I still garden outside but not as much as I used to. This year I may move so I have a few tomato plants in those hanging planters. I can take them with me There are soo many trees here that it's difficult to grow veggies as they need hours of sunlight. Lots of money and work....very little reward...I'm hoping the new house will have a lot of sunlight.....

Funny, I just wrote in my blog about this:

http://jpaulson.blogspot.com/2010/05/power-of-water.html

I absolutely believe that water is an excellent carrier of "subtle energy" (also known as "chi," "ki," or "prana" in the East). I don't think it's a coincidence that cultures all over the world have some sort of equivalent to "holy water."

That being said, may I humbly ask that others join me in sending positive thoughts and intentions to heal the Gulf of Mexico? Thanks!

Oh Jody....What a wonderful idea. I never thought of that. Here I am with a couple of jugs of water labeled Jesus Healing Water, and it never entered my mind about the Gulf. I think it would also help to have the image in our minds....Thanks again....I'm on it.....

I too had seen that video, but questioned the whole part with Emoto's water experiments. I'm only saying this because even 'unblessed' water has frozen into wonderful shapes (the first thing that's come to my mind is snowflakes, but also frost on glass).

Now - I understand the importance of water and its spiritual connections. I use flower/plant essences to heal the psyche of the body - there is no actual plant material in these. What they are rather, is the 'vibrational imprint' of the flower carried through the medium of water. Because these work so well for me, I've been using them since 2003, they are my 'main' 'healing tool'.

I have my own particular thoughts about water and its importance spiritually - and this is simply based upon my own spiritual connection to the element of water.

I do think that there is 'something' to water and that there is some sort of 'ability to record' or 'carry' information (hence the essences) - there is a video on this, but again - like you said, I think people should do their own research and try things out.

Your Water has a Memory:

Masaru Emoto's experiments fascinate me. I greatly enjoyed his book, The Hidden Messages In Water ...There are some great pictures in it, I remember he also did similar experiments with rice. I have no doubt music/sound can make a profound difference in water, as everything is vibration and vibrating at it's own frequency - and water can pick up and mirror any vibration very easily.

For example, a glass of water will ripple when you slam a door on the other side of the house and if you look closely, even when you slam the door to a separete building outside. The vibrations put off by the action of slamming a door that far away you don't usually feel or pick up on unless you can hear it, but with water you can see the effects - which is why it is so fascinating. Words can also carry a positive or negative vibration that can been reflected with water, and if you think about it our physical bodies are around 95% water, which explains why we can be so affected by what goes on around us, even things we can't see!...

Plants will react to hostile intentions and environments, this has been shown in various experiments through the years.

One thing they tried is to do spectral photography, or whatever it is named. There they use a Russian technique to photograph the aura. They did these tests with plants and had people approach the plan with different mindsets, one was benign, whereas another would be hostile(cut the plant, harvest it). Interestingly enough, the aura color always changed near the plants when approached with malevolent intent.

Another thing, that ties to mass production and epigenetics, is that plants are being raised in very hostile and stressful environments which is causing the plants to excrete certain chemicals that are far from healthy. I don't remember the name of the toxin(Ray Peat would know), but according to some research these toxins have been increasing in various plant produce for years, especially wheat. This in turn has correlated rather nicely with higher incidents of various intolerances and allergies.

Speaking of the plants -

I remember an aromatherapy book where they did polycontrast interface photography photographs, not the fake 'aura' photos, but actual scientific photography of certain essential oils. It's in 'Aromatherapy for the Soul' by Worwood.

I've also read in plant books that I had about plants having a sort of 'sentience' (sp) and will react to a malevolent intent towards them.

Ever since reading Rupert Sheldrake's book, "Morphic Resonance", I have begun to look at plants, animals, water and even all physical matter in significantly different ways. For example, I was bending down to tie my shoes this morning before taking our sweet, lovable pitbull out for his first walk of the day. As he took the opportunity to lick my face, I reflected upon the generations of conditioning that enabled him to show love and appreciation and prevented him from biting my face off as some of his ancestors would be instinctively wanting to do.

I have studied behavioral psychology for many years, but I have never felt comfortable that conventional science has been able to fully explain many of the behavioral anomalies that I have witnessed or read about; and I have also begun to include the subject of behavior as being an epiphenomenon not only of living creatures, but of things we would not normally include as behavioral subjects like plants and water. And now—with my own gradual discovery of quantum mechanics—I have begun to realize that sub atomic particles are also capable of exhibiting behaviors which science and measurement is unable to predict. So, behavior seems to apply to all things, at least at the molecular level.

Standard science tells me that my pitbull is a gentle and loving animal because of selective breeding among animals that share those traits, and that genetic qualities just "happen" without any conscious effort on his part. However much these explanations seem to fit general observations quite nicely, they don't explain why my dog seems to know exactly when it is feeding time or that my invitation to ride in the car means that he's going to the vet instead of the park. He also seems to know when my son is coming home without there being any pattern or regularity to my son's habits.

This is only one reason why I've begun to view all things as being surrounded by a kind of Morphic Resonance, a force that cannot be measured by known science, but a force nonetheless which has apparent effects on matter which can be picked in plants by hooking up polygraphs as Cleve Backster has done, or in water as evidenced by Masaru Emoto's experiments. It may be that most if not all of the anomalies we experience including telepathy, premonition, psychokinesis and even past life memories could be further indication of this mysterious force which seems to connect us all not only with each other, but with all matter.

So, when I look into the sweet face of my loving and quirky dog, Diesel, I see more than just a collection of biological cells and molecular DNA. I see something that has been alive long before he was born, and something that will be alive long after he has taken his last breath. In like manner, when I take a drink of water, I try to be conscious of it as a life-giving substance that carries with it whatever quality we wish it to obtain.
