when does the spirit enter the body

at what point do you think the spirit or soul enters a baby conception, implantation, quickening birth?
or does the spirit move in and out inside the womb?

If I remember correctly from a paul weiss book I once read it kind of comes and goes...getting more attached through the pregnancy...I think its a difficult question with all the abortion controvercy.

Hi alisarose,

Welcome to the forum. Yes, TLD, that sounds about right.

There is a very good book with all kinds of good basic information on reincarnation from early historical accounts to the present day, examining (and demolishing) most of the skeptic arguments, various controversies and the latest research by the likes of Dr Ian Stevenson. It's called 'Exploring Reincarnation' by Dr Hans Ten Dam (a Dutchman). He has done many regressions in the course of his Psychiatric practice, and obviously read a great deal of the literature that exists.

He says in general it is at about 3 months more or less - around about the time the mother starts to feel the 'quickening' when the baby starts to wriggle about. But it can also occur any time from conception to at birth - although these are the more unusual ends of the spectrum. People describe being attached to the mother by a silver thread and sort of 'hovering about' for some months until fully inhabiting the body close to birth.

I believe that the soul has a deep bond with the brain and the heart, so i don`t think the soul can enter the body before these organs started for form because it would have no way to "anchor". So i think it enters the body after the third week of pregnancy.

I believe Edgar Cayce said the spirit hovers around the fetus throughout the pregnancy, but enters just before--and sometimes just after--birth.

Following up on that note....

Edgar Cayce, in giving a reading, stated that the soul did not enter the body until 3 days after birth. When asked, he further explained that the soul was not sure that it wanted to experience that life. He further answered, when asked, how the body stayed alive without a soul....."The Spirit"

So much we don't know.......

I should have made it clear that he was speaking about a particular body and soul. That would not be true for all people at all. In some cases the soul entered quite early, especially if the soul was anxious to be with the mother or father again

Also, according to Cayce, after about 6 rather difficult lives, you get a easy life.....like a vacation.....much less stress. I read that you are tested at least 6 times on things like controlling your temper, selfishness, greed etc.....to make sure it has been cleansed from your soul....????

This was a memory that returned to the surface recently. I wrote a brief mention of it on my blog. (Maternity Ward.) I had a NDE as a six year old child and this led to nightly OBE's that were verified by my Dad. I was slipping in and out of my physical body with ease and traveling around town at night and having 'interactions' with people on the night shifts at various locations. People would see my 'spirit' as a child and think I was in the body.

One of the places I showed up at - was the maternity ward. I would watch the 'spirits' as they waited to enter the body. At the age of six - I had a memory of my own birth process - so it was just a matter of remembering what it had been like for me to come into the world. I would show up at my hometown hospital and then - I ventured off to other towns. Where ever there was a baby being born. I would just think - I wanted to see a baby being born - and then I would be there.

During my NDE - I had an interaction with the spirit of my 'unborn' little sister. (My Mom was pregnant at the time of my NDE.) Her spirit was hovering around outside the physical body close to my Mom - but wasn't attached in a permanent sense.

In the experiences I had with my own memory of birth, my sister and her birth - as well as the many births I witnessed (that were verified by my Dad) - the spirit always entered the body when it started breathing. Of course - I didn't witness every single birth in the world, but of the ones I did witness, all of them were after the body started breathing. So much so that as a child - I always refereed to the spirit as the 'breath.' When I had my NDE's - my 'breath' would leave my body.

This is my view...so just take it for what it is...simply my view.

I had gone to one of those 'Body Works' displays - the ones done by that Dr. Gunther von Hagens.

Now, in this particular display they actually had the stages of conception preserved. They showed the development of a human body. It was really rather fascinating and it got me to thinking about this subject.

In the early stages - all a human body looks like is cooked egg whites. Seriously - that's exactly what it looked like. And as I followed the progression/development of the human body - my understanding became more clear that...I feel a soul enters the body (going by reincarnation by birth here of course), in the later stages of development. I just cannot see a soul entering a mass of 'cells' that look like cooked egg whites!
