Hi,

I am curious, and over the years have posted something similar. What do you do? We have had Engineers, Doctors, Professors, Archaeologists, Students, Teachers, Real Estate Agents, Lab techs, Nurses, Housewives, Truck drivers, Ranchers, Editors, etc...... Tell us what you do as a profession.

Or what is your life goal? What are you currently doing to reach that goal? It has always amazed me over the years -how many people with very different backgrounds come here.

Tell us about you. :)

Archeologist

Hello everybody,

I have a BA-degree in Prehistoric Archeology and am currently studying for my masters. Aside from my studies I'm on digs (which is why my studies are going sloooow :o but I need the money and it's great fun :D ).

My education is aimed at the prehistory of Denmark, so that is where my future job will be. Besides from getting my masters degree I have a goal to write books; fictious works based on Danish prehistory, make it my niche teaching people about prehistory while telling all the good stories within it.

:)

education program manager

This is a cool thread, Deborah :)

My official title is "assistant site manager" but that doesn't explain what I do. I work in a before/after-school program at an elementary school in Alaska. I manage all aspects of the program, including behavioral management plans, staffing, food program, lesson plans, budgets etc. My program is one of six in the city, all operated under one program. My program gets about 35 children daily during the winter and about 70-100 during the all-day summer program that we run.

I work with children ages 5-12 and love it! I've been doing this for a little over four years now. For example, in one day I work one-on-one with intensive needs students. Then I help the 3-5th graders with their homework. Then I supervise the playground. Then I spend time planning activities. Next Monday a bird center is bringing in a redtail hawk to do a presentation for us.

I hold an Associate of Arts degree, as well as Child Development Associate national credentials. I am certified in First Aid, CPR and AEDs.

My other job is housewife. ;) I have two boys, ages 10 and 2. That's a whole OTHER career all in itself. :)

I have a BA in English and a Master's Degree and a License in Social Work (MSW/LSW). I work as a supervisor for the local child welfare agency. I have also been in the Navy and worked in a steel mill and state run liquor stores.

I love to read and listen to all kinds of music but especially music from the early and mid part of this century.

When I was born my mother gave me the name of her mother which embodied both her grief and hope for the future - I have always been a melancholy/pensive person - perhaps that's why.

I have a B.A. in Social Science with a concentration in child development. For many years, I was a preschool teacher. I've always loved children, and I liked the job well enough, but it was time for a change.

My other love was words and language. I always had good grades in English while I was in school. I'm now a court reporter, and it's a perfect fit for me. It was a long, difficult program, but I did it. I love my job.

Great thread :)

it's nice to get to know each other a bit.

Currently I am working in customer services - ok job, which pays the bills.

Apart of that I also worked in the legal business ( 20 years ago ) and in sales.

We (= my husband and I ) just started a new business and are really excited about that

I have a Master's degree in Social Sciences (my major was Third World Studies), but I work in publishing, in foreign rights department, which means I try to export Finnish literature abroad so that you all could enjoy it, too. :D

I am an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and work in long-term care, mostly with the developmentally disabled.

My eventual aspiration is to be a midwife and attend home births. I enjoy other areas of medicine and want my skills to be well-rounded, but I would truly feel unfullfilled if I wasn't actively involved with home births during my life. I currently apprentice with a midwife and I love it, but I don't think I can do this full time until my kids are much older.

What I do

I have a LCSW (as did someone else too!) and am working on my PhD in social sciences. I also teach, do research and write an advice column. Believe it or not I'd like to do something else sometime soon though, maybe in politics or in talk radio. I tend to get bored with the same stuff and feel like a change may be in order.

Forgive my ignorance, CSPaula. What's an LCSW?

Hi Deborah. Aside from being a writer, tuning pianos is what I do in order to put food on the table. Although, I hope that soon my writing will be all that I need in order to accomplish that.

Bachelor's Degree in MIS, currently working in a telecommunications company that makes phone systems.

I'm doing a couple of things, not very defined really. Sales, marketing, web site update, ERP, forums, blogs, etc...

By night I'm making artisan jewelry with sterling silver and semiprecious stones, and when I don't do that, I read, meditate or browse forums such as this one  Oh and also spend time with hubby ;)

Currently I am a USPS rural carrier sub. and I also raise rare breed horses which is a lifelong passion of mine.

I am striving to develope my animal communication skills along with hands on healing, esp. for horses.

In my "spare time" I am an artist.

I'm an architect (at least this is my graduation), but i work mainly in graphics as an art director for books, advertising and web.

I have countless hobbies and interests.

I have also a dream to escape (yes, really "escape") from Italy.

I don't like to answer questions like this, generally because my answer tends to be unbelievable to most Westerners.

However; because I would really like to get to know this community and have meaningful conversations and perhaps learn something new I will tell you.

I am a former Buddhist monk of 12 years, I have a medical degree (MD) which is my first degree and a Ph.D. in philosophy minor in religion, which is my second degree, and my current livelyhood.

I went back to school a few years ago and finished my degree in psychiatry and I did an internship and then a residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPA) at a level 1 trauma center and I was given board certification as a chaplain.

I have spent most of my (un)natural life in school and now I work in one (Chiang Mai University). Although English is my first language I get more out of practice every day and it is becoming difficult to compose grammatically correct sentences let alone spell, please bear with me it's not out of laziness or disregard for proper English.

But, none of that is who I am that's just what I have done and that being said I feel there is always time for good manners....

Somkid, it sounds as if you are doing something very worthwhile with your education and experience, not only teaching spirituality and philosophy, but volunteering your time to help people injured in natural disasters.

If you'd asked me this same question a year and a half ago, I'd have answered that I'm a middle manager in the marketing department, and i spend all of my time sitting in my office writing press releases, copyediting, and developing the content for the corporate web site. A skilled graphic designer and writer, I was a lousy photographer, known for making auto parts look good and making people look bad. As well as serving as everyone's therapist and counselor-our company had terrible morale. At the time i'd just finished writing the manuscript for a self-help book. My plan was to do past-life counseling.

Now, the answer is different. As a result of a whole sequences of bizarre "coincidences", I live a life that few would believe. Unless they read my popular blog on the local newspaper's website, that is. Not only am I a noted local photographer-I'm now in the middle of my second exhibit of my photographs-of people, but I'm also a notorious local photographer.

Last September, pictures I took (by complete coincidence) turned out to be the needed evidence to develop a suspect and gain a conviction in a gang-related shooting involving a school bus full of students. I recently received a letter of commendation from the police chief for that little escapade. In addition to a lot of death threats and one (foiled) attempt on my life.

Three months ago, I photographed gang members in the middle of assaulting a suspected member of a rival gang, resulting in three arrests. That earned me even more death threats from a new gang that hates me for snitching.

Today, I not only write a popular local blog for the local paper's website, but I am also a very vocal member of a political action organization known as Crimewatch. I am still counseling people, only instead of stressed-out middle managers who hate their jobs or people with past-life baggage issues, I'm mentoring at-risk youth, the members of the same street gang that tried to kill me last fall. They have major current-life baggage issues.

Friday, I'm making my first speech at a Crimewatch rally and march in my neighborhood. I've chosen "Love thy neighbor as thyself" as my theme.

Now I understand what "walk in the light" meant.

I am a high school English teacher. I teach inclusion (mainstreamed special ed students) and remedial.

I have a difficult boss, but I do feel that this is where I am meant to be, at least for now.

Not as interesting as some of yours! I am enjoying all the stories!

As my name implies, I am in the process of finding my TRUE SELF. Have alot of free time but instead of using it to find what it is that I seek, my family fills it with activities they feel I need to do. :( Time and again I have asked how can they be my family because for the most part, I can not relate to 97% of them and vise versa.

A quick background on me. I have been around animals my whole life, especially horses and dogs and I am very comfortable with them. Sometimes to the point that I'd rather be around them more than with most people. I have Native American ancestry within me and currently hold an Associates of Science Degree in Music Industry Communications because I have also loved music and interested in how the music business works and how music is made and recorded. I do want to continue studies when I can get enough money up and work on finishing with a higher degree in same field.

At the moment, having retired twice....I doing what ever I darn well please!! How absolutely wonderful..

I quit highschool in the 11th grade in order to hav clothes etc. My Mom was divorced with 5 children. In those days quite a disgrace...and we had no money. I was only 1 when she divorced.

I went to work on the line in a packaging company and in 3 years became the foreman over about 35 people. I stayed in that position for 16 1/2 years and then retired from all the stress of middle management.

Next...I went to work in a deli....a "Fun" job.

My manager could have been my daughter. I had given the orders for so many years it was going to be interesting to see how well I could "Take' them. I'm proud to say I had no problem. I became the Fancy Sandwich Chef and loved working with the public. I stayed there for 14 years. Sadly my foot ended my career and my plan of working there until I was 75. I made it to 72...Darn!!

In younger years I loved to ride horses that we rented and I could sit at the piano for hours playing by ear and playing some music I was taught by girlfriends.... My mother was a*saint...she never complained

Now, I have discovered the world of painting. I have painted 10 scenes so far. 8 of them are of water....1 has a large waterfall and 2 are of crashing waves hitting rocks on shore. I really do love them and I put them in frames on the wall. I cannot believe that I painted them as I have had no lessons. I told my daughter that maybe a spirit painter is helping me. My paintings scared me so much I stopped and bought some painting instruction books about blending color and values etc. Oh so much to learn....

I'm kinda waiting to calm down to a "I don't give a darn attitude" that I started with and then maybe try again.

In the meanwhile I painted my son's room and put in a small vegetable garden. I even planted about 10 potato plants.. They are fun....

Today My face is all swollen and blistered from an allergy to an antibiotic I was given.....afterwards I had to go to Krogers grocery to fill my prescriptions...and I looked sooooo bad. People were so nice ...they looked at me and never blimked an eye...My Doctor though, took one look and laughed in my face. The snot. I just told him I probably just overwhelmed him with my beauty..ha ha.

Oh yes, this last August Steve (my Son) and I rescued a darling Terrier mix puppy of 4 months. Her name was Cupcake and it suited her very well. Though the influence of his older sister he changed it to Abigail (Abbie for short)

At the Vets I registered her as "Abigail Cupcake"

She is a sassy little creature who wants to kiss every stranger she meets. She resembles a large Yorkie Right now she is trying to sit on my keyboard and lay her head on my arm so I cannot type. I think I better play with the little scamp

Such an amazing group of people! I always read these responses and feel like I really didn't accomplish much afterwards... *smile*

I currently work at a Casino/Resort with the Conventions/Events that come to town. Nothing exciting - it pays the bills...and allows me to learn just how picky some famous folks are.

Ambitions - Never really focused on one. Always had too many interests (archeology, history, geography, accounting, computers) and this is why we have lots of college credit, but no 'official' degree. Such is life... The counselors loved me!

I'd be content to write, volunteer, travel, and just be Mom - as long as the bills continue to be paid on time of course. : angel

Take care,

Julie

Things I have done in the past... Graduated high school! :)

I worked in about 8 different factories, as a clerk in a grocery store, housekeeping at a nursing home. The last factory I worked at was 8 hour days, 7 days a week, I lasted about 4 years standing on cement all day, then I just burned out.

I have been drawing and sculpting all my life in all kinds of mediums. In the mid 80's I started doing life sized soft sculpted animals (like a stuffed animal, but with many more componants) and did those for several years. Then I got into Pyrography (woodburned portraits) and did that for several more years. After that I took up woodcarving and did that for several years alongside and combined with pyrography. I was inspired by my friend Jay who is a quadraplegic to get into the pyrography and carving. He does beautiful work!

Now (well, not in the last year) I work with oven bake polymer clay making sculpts of animals.

4 years ago my friend Jay's wife decided to divorce him and sell the house they lived in. In order for him to keep the house (which he designed and built around his disabilities) he needed help. So my husband and I moved in with him. I get him out of bed in the morning and put him to bed at night along with helping him throughout the day (and various other things that go with being in a wheelchair).

I am trying to get inspired to get back into my sculpting, since I have no income and the holidays are coming! lol

I have a very great interest in past lives and remember a bit from at least ten of them.

Glad to know you all!

Take care, Donna

Ladywoodcarver.. Lovely carving of the horses head!!

Hello everyone ,,

Before getting ill I had varying interests and jobs. I did alot of travelling to Europe, Morocco, Mexico , across Canada a few times and in the States. I taught horsebackriding, was the first woman to be hired as a groundskeeper at my university. I graduated with a bachelor of science with plans on a masters in zoology and environmental work but I got ill . So I turned to short term , part time work to make ends meet. I was a daycare worker, made sheepskin coats, wrote a script for an educational documentary through greenpeace and several odd jobs but then I got too ill to do much of anything..

I did get involved 6 years ago in a small environmental group in my city where we were able to get a by law passed to prohibit the use of cosmetic spraying of pesticides. I am hopeful that I leave our planet in better working order with less pollution and better air and water. I have had a future memory of three lives from now and I am enjoying my life then , working at a lovely retreat on a beautiful lake so things can not be too bad..

I just finished my last braided rug --- it got to be a bit of an addiction so I am trying to branch into other things. I have a vegetable garden and am just freezing the last of my harvest before our nasty Canadian winter comes along in a couple of months..

I plan on trying my hand at painting this winter and maybe doing a blog about my past life journey.

Thank you Soulfreindly! I haven't carved in years, but really did enjoy it. The horse head is anout 5" tall and carved from aromatic cedar. It was meant to be the top part of a cane.

Your illness sounds really devastating and I am so happy that you continue to improve! I'm such a wimp, a cold knocks me out! Luckily I rarely have even a cold. I admire you for your courage to find a way out of all of that! So happy you are doing better after all that time!

take care, Donna

Thankyou Donna I really am touched... Talking of being a wimp has touched a chord in me. Even after all of these years of pain I still cannot get over my fear of pain. On the outside I have shown my tough exterior , but it shows on my emotions .

I think we should all claim the wimp side of ourselves...

Hello

My first post here. What a wonderful place!!

Have had many jobs in this life. Went to Cosmetology school immediately after high school. Loved to do hair, but didn't like having to "push" certain products, so a friend & I started cleaning houses. I remember my Dad being horrified that I would choose to do menial labor, but actually I just wanted to have my weekends free and work my own hours!: angel

After a year, I took a job in a retail department store and ended up staying 12 years. Moved up through the ranks to Divisional Mgr., but decided to step down after marriage & getting pregnant.

I wanted to stay home and raise my kids - and was blessed to be able to. Did lots of part-time things during those years - worked as lunch-aide at school, cleaned houses (again!), and worked in a small boutique doing their visual presentations.

Also worked for a friend doing fresh flower arranging for 10 years. It was weekends mainly, so I was still home for the kids.

6 years ago, my husband asked me to come to work for him as an admin. asst. He is a project manager/electrician. I did and have now transferred to a different division doing "document control" - compiling information for technical submittals/O&M manuals. This is SO totally different from anything else I've ever done, but still interesting & pays the bills...

But none of these things really touch who I am either!!

Been into ceramics for many years, love to read (that would have been the perfect job), sewing heirloom dresses, smocking, french knots, embroidery.

I have memories of several lives, and can see how some of my current interests have come with me this time around. :)

Love & Light

Electrician. Quite a nice and interesting job and I can pay my bills. Formerly I have done all kinds of strenuous and boring jobs. I hated it, went to school and now I have done few years this work. I'm happy with my current situation.

My life goal has nothing to do with my work. I want to know more about spiritual matters and probably have a family in the future. Also some personal stuff which I wont share here.

When I was a kid, I never knew what I was 'going to be when I grew up'. I've done the minimum wage fabric store work and I've also worked selling photographic equipment (I was always fascinated by photography and learned how to process film the old fashioned way. I had my eye on a gorgeous 4 x 5 camera (Couldn't afford it.) I also wanted to learn how to draw perspective so I had a short stint in architectural drafting. I couldn't afford to continue school at that time so architectural design never went anywhere.

Later, I ended up going back to school and got a degreee in electronics technology . I've been working on technical support for DANG!!!!! over 20 years now! Holy-moley! I'm getting old and crickety!:tongue: the last 12 years, I've done computer technical support for a university.

My typing is terrible which is why I'm no good as a receptionist/secretary...

What I'd like to do, given the skills and good company? Disappear into the woods and only come out when I had to. :D

I have been a paralegal for about the last ten years, and I love my work. The group of people I work with are very special and open. I work in one of the most historic buildings in the city and...well...we all know what happens in old buildings. :D :D:butbut:

Prior I worked in a few doctor offices, and in the nursing profession before that. I had some profound and life changing experiences when I worked with the ill and dying. I knew when I had learned what I needed to learn and started moving toward the legal profession.

I also write- I am currently working on a novel and have had a few short stories published. I am open to writing a paranormal novel, or one where reincarnation is involved, but my stories are not of this genre right now.

Other then that, it's my beau, my cats, his cats and all of us!
:D : angel

Here is my story.

After school I wasn´t sure about what to do and thought the topic I was interested in, wouldn´t gain me any jobs. - I am interested in many things, but the arts have been always very strong. I went to study in a small academy culture management which was very interesting. And I could focus on a large perspective instead of having to narrow it down.

After that, I went to university to study art history for a while, until I changed my subject. Archaeology has always been the topic I was interested in and now I had the courage to follow that passion. I graduated this year with my Masters in Archaeology. Again, I have no speciality, I am more interested in the big picture, but I have a few topics I feel hugely drawn to, like for example the Mediaeval culture, or women´s life.

I am working at the moment as a museum guide in an art museum (for old European art). It´s not exactly what I studied, but I enjoy that work a lot. I like sharing interesting stories about the past, and if I see people smile at the end of my tour, then I am very happy.

Hmm my life goal. I have different ones. Writing has always been easy. Composing a book has been one goal for me. I´d like to write a book about some archaeological culture or one area in culture history, but in a way people understand it. Not for other researchers, but for everyone. I´d also like to create interesting exhibitions that link the past to the present. I´m trying to find the courage and the ideas about a topic where to start. There are so much interesting topics in the world :)

Another goal would be to grow spiritually and emotionally. Find balance. And especially, trust my intuition more and be more calm about things. Dare to live and learn.

What I do

Hi... thanks for the great thread! :)

As for me, I am a mom to eight marvelous children. I have been an actress (nothing anyone here would have seen me in... LOL), a retail clerk, a cashier in a historical museum, a secretary for rabbit shows, and many other things.

Right now, I write articles for people's websites as my primary profession. I have trained as a doula, and currently provide reiki therapy to anyone who needs it, though I specialize in pregnancy, labor & postpartum. My husband and I are building a website about childbirth that we hope will eventually help pay bills.

I also do artwork (draw, paint, fiber arts) related to birth, animals and so on. I am a midwifery student, although I have not had an apprenticeship yet. I am working on academics when I have time.
