The pedlar woman

New Member
My husband has gone away on a business trip and my daughter wanted to sleep next to me. One rare night my son fell asleep in his own bed. As I turned off the light I could feel her body stiffen and snuggle in tighter. I asked what was wrong. She said she didn't want to talk about it. So I said are you thinking of the pedlar woman. She said shhh Mummy, don't speak of her, she scares me.
I said to her that she is safe and I stroked her little hand and asked her what is so frightening about her. Rebecca said she was mean to her and shouted at her all the time. So I took the opportunity to ask questions. To summarise our conversation, Rebecca said this was her Mum but not me. She wore black long dress and had an older face which was always cross at her. I asked why she wore black and she said because her dad had died. Before her dad died her Mum was kind to her. Then she met this boyfriend and they got married and he didn't like me. He shouted at me all the time. ( by this point Rebecca was half asleep talking to me). I sympathised with her and said it must of made you sad. She said she wanted to cry, but she didn't ever as he would just shout at her more. I asked her if she went to school, and she said no. I asked her what she did instead and she said she had to get out of the house or stay in the house and get shouted at all the time. So she would get far away from the house as possible. She use to have two friends, the one friend and then she had no one. She went all sad and said no one liked me, not even the dog, he always chased me.
She described the house as a cottage next to a gate and a farm over the way, but she never went to the farm and never knew who owned it. She said she got into a lot of trouble as they didn't feed her and she had to steal fruit as she was so hungry.
She said they hated her so much they poisoned her until she died. I asked her what they did with her body, and she said in a mature voice, probably nothing, just dumped it as they didn't like me anyway.

Rebecca rolled over and said I am tired now mummy.

Background

A background to this, is that when Rebecca was very young 1.5 years old we read Snow White to her, but we never read the horrible bits and skipped the witch and poisoning of the apple. Yet she always turned to the page where the wicked witch, was with the apples and ask us about her. I would just say oh that's just the pedlar woman. That's where she gets the name pedlar woman from. Rebecca was terrified of her and I always thought how odd that was because we never read that part, so how could she be scared of her. She use to hide the book away. She had recurring nightmares of this woman and unfortunately I hadn't a clue back then about past life and always tried to say its just in the story, when you close the book it's gone. I would never let her talk about it. I wish I knew what I knew now with my son, but now I know what she has been so afraid of.

She also always plays a 13 year old in any fun play, and when she dreams she is a 13 year old girl in a long frock. She says the same thing about the pedlar woman poisoning her and her getting this new husband.

When Rebecca was very young, I hardly had to tell her off. I just use to use a more stern tone and she would get soooo upset. It broke my heart as I thought I was being awful to her. She once woke up when she was about 4 and said she is running away from home because o one liked her. She said this for weeks. I was so scared and explained we all loved her. That stopped thank goodness. Last night she told me her past life, all of this came rushing back to me. I couldn't sleep for hours afterwards thinking of all the pieces just slotting together.

One evening as well, I was bathing the children and they were playing and I was thinking of the stressful day I had a work and just staring into nothing really. She started crying and hiding in a foetal position in the bath. I asked if she hurt herself and she said that my face scared her, as I looked really cross with her. I explained and smiled. I held her tight and tried never to think of work around her again. She was always so sensitive to facial expressions and the tone of my voice. Now I know why. That poor girl.

When she said the words house and shouted, she said it in a completely different accent, not the accent we use, I have heard Canadians use the word house in that accent, but it was also a type of English. Rebecca doesn't know about people wearing black to morn death. She spoke in a very mature way as well, I had to look at her a few times to make sure it was her. She is now 7 years old. I am glad she found a moment amongst my son's moments. Also we don't speak of Stevens past life to her because we don't want her speaking of it at school, so she couldn't have copied it. It's ever since I started thinking of past life's again and reading Carol's book. It must be me having more time and opening myself to listening to her.

My two children are amazing and I am so glad they are with us, so we can provide properly for them.

I had to tell you on the forum, and also write this down. I forget and it's very important to write this all down and get opinions. It's helped our family greatly with my son. This forum has been a helpline for us, when no one else could help.

So BOTH of your children are speaking about their past lives? Wow! The same thing happened with Carol Bowman. After she did her own past life regression, both of her kids began talking about their memories. It's like at some level they are aware that it's OK to talk about their memories with you. Your daughter's story is not that unusual, even today. When a parent remarries the new spouse is sometimes jealous of someone else's kids. It sounds like she was in an English speaking country. Maybe Canada, U.S., Australia, etc. 1800 or 1900s. Ask her what her name was.

I am starting to believe that all children do this. Adults just do not recognize it for what it is.

I hope you will not mind a bit of friendly advice? I would not try to hide what I am feeling from my kids. Talk about it with them (age appropriately, of course.) They can already sense when you are mad or upset. Explaining why helps them and makes you feel better too.

Also, if your son is talking about the bad family to you, it is a safe bet that he has talked about them with his sister as well. At 7, she is old enough to understand if you tell her that we would prefer it if Steven's past is forgotten so he can focus on being here with us now.

I also would not worry about school. Kids will brush it off if they can not relate it to an experience of their own. If they are remembering, your daughter might actually help someone, just by listening to what is not listened to at home. Adults at school might overhear, but they will be blind to it, and think the children are just "imagining" or "playing."

I'm glad you and your daughter found this little window of opportunity to talk about it. It is so nice when all the odd little things finally make sense.

That's interesting. I wonder if it might be Scottish? Hardly anyone dresses in black for mourning any more these days. I wonder how old this one might be?

Anyway, it's good that you can talk about it with the children. That's terrific.
