Reincarnation & modern social technology

I have been thinking recently, due to the recent leap human beings have took in terms of technology, does this have an impact, good or bad, on how we may plan our lives or anything in general?

Today we have social network sites and forum such as this. We can contact people and make new friends from all over the world without even leaving our own house. Wouldn't this make it much easier for us to meet people we're supposed to considering we may not even be from the same country? After all, the internet connects the world together.

On the other hand, considering that many people today may not go out in the "real world" as much due to the internet, it could also serve as a distraction, and hold people back from going the places they're suppose to go and meet the people they're supposed to meet.

As a child of the late 40's and 50's I have often reflected upon the great technological changes that have had such an effect upon my parents, grandparents and current family during the past hundred and fifty years. Certainly our lives have become considerably more complicated and our interdependence on each other has had some contradictory as well as expected effects upon our society. While we have discovered the existential effect we each have on each other, we have also become somewhat indifferent to each other. While we are more tightly packed in our communities, we have also withdrawn into greater isolation from each other. The only choices some of us seem now to have at our disposal is the ability to turn on our computers and televisions whenever we feel the need for social interaction.


The question remains, however, as to how this may affect us in the scope of Reincarnation; and my opinion is that it hasn't and probably won't have much effect overall in our ongoing future choices of life endeavors. Certainly the future is rife with all manner of changes which may make our future choices ever more complicated. But, by the same token, we may also find a future in which this complicated house of cards may fail and throw us all back into a primeval existence in which primitive skills and choices may be our only salvation.


I do believe that whatever changes are in store for us, we may choose to either learn long-term spiritual lessons or short-term technical lessons from situations that are both good and bad.

I agree though, i don't think social technology will make a huge change. If anything, it may only make more, new connections.

If you're of the mindset that believes in fate, then you will meet if you are fated to no matter what. Whether it be a Facebook meeting or international pen-pal situations, you will meet if the threads lead you there. If you're a shut-in who is fated to meet somebody, that person will find a way in to your life "...no matter what the future brings as time goes by," as the old song says.

Now Kristopher, was thinking of this question and thread while I was out hiking yesterday. It seems to me as we make all of this big leap in progress, how much also are we becoming so impersonal to each other it seems. I do like Nightrain's answer. In how many other forums, here on the Internet, how many times have I been dragged thru the mud just because I disagreed with someone. In how many ways are some people still so 'Primitive' it seems in their behavior. Now with all of this modern technology, I see this impersonal behavior now coming into their everyday lives which can't be good.


Now whatever happens in the future as for life and reincarnations , it will always be about life and love, forgiveness, and relationships.

I have mixed feelings on this topic. On the one hand it seems that mankind's broadening awareness and acceptance of non-standard beliefs somehow benefits by and mirrors the rapid advancement of technological achievement...both of which seem to occur at ever-increasing speeds. The internet's ability to reach anyone looking for information has broadened the depth and scope of understanding dramatically since its inception and is setting the bar ever higher on a daily basis.


On the other hand, and as stated in previous posts, technology allows a greater individual capacity to withdraw from society, from the connections that had previously been formed through interpersonal contact. The explosion of social media has altered our ability to relate to each other on a personal level and has likewise minimized our capability to express our true meaning in an era in which we should be working to increase our capacity to communicate. The loss of the ability to include inflection and facial expression in direct communication cannot be made up with emoticons and standardized abbreviations (lol).


So with that said, I truly see Scylla and Charybdis...we obtain greater widespread understanding of the universal mind and the greatness of the diversity of our ideas and capabilities through technology while at the same time opening up dramatically new and untamed issues with the capacity to completely undo the advancements attained by just such technology.

Like the others have said, there are two sides of the coin. All the modern technologies, science and social media can be a large benefit for those who use it wisely, but it also makes it easier for those who use these means to abuse the possibilities that they give them.


That is also why we need a moderation team for this site, to keep it a safe place for those who genuinely seek answers to their PL questions and want to share their experiences.


When scientific knowledge is shared, there will always be those who use it for the good, and those who try to use it for not so peaceful purposes. It depends on the spiritual mindset of the users. It is not the scientific knowledge or tools in themselves that are bad or good, only the use that is made of them.

A very interesting topic, with many great posts already!


There are definitely two sides to it, the pros and the cons. The internet can be used for such good causes, or bad ones - it all depends on the user. When people use texting, computers, smart phones & 'social media' for mindless chattering & game playing to an extreme, I think they loose their sense of community/ the 'real world'. Whereas those who use the internet to learn, stimulate their minds, earn a living, promote organizations & raise peoples awareness in a positive way - I'm all for it.


As for technology's affect on our lives/reincarnation/future lives...A couple things come to mind, one being the planet. Our current power line system in America will not last forever nor will Earth's natural balance if we keep pushing the limits without thinking of the consequences.


Another way, is with the internet making it so much easier for people to connect, it also gives lots of opportunities for karma to play out.


I think there are a lot of factors that play into why we as a people often don't even know who our neighbors are, where our food came from, or why we work some of the pointless jobs we do. BUT - there are more and more people out there who DO care about these things and more (my family & I are in this group). Because of the internet, we can sell our handcrafted wears & skills to people who are willing to pay for them across the world (not just limited to our small town), and the internet has been a huge learning tool. Even so, we don't abuse it, we limit it by not answering the phone until after 4:00 pm, and after a quick check on the stores in the morning, we try to stay off the computer until after 4 as well. All good things in moderation. :thumbsup:


This belief and method has served us well - just my opinion!

Social Networks online can help flourish the spontaneous memory based empiric modern research on Reincarnation. For example, a Jatiswar (this Bengali term ???????? means: A PERSON WHO REMEMBERS PREVIOUS LIFE) could recall their User ID & Password in Facebook & several other social onlines like Twitter etc & even email - if the Case would have been increasingly stronger - thus surprising previous life's known people all over the world.


Sure somewhat, still am I, that the Critics would still come up with charges of HACKING & propaganda like 'No more Privacy in the Facebook etc' or simply "Something bad is going on in the Web 2.0 or modern information technology".


But the Counter Questions to also surface will then be, for examples:


1# Why the Hacking didn't take place in the lifetime of the 'Previous Personality'?


2# Yes the Hackers can copy-paste the cognitive database (like the 'Info') of the Past Life, but, but...how could they dare to simulate the emotions and certain tendencies of the person in the social or other interactions?


Social network technology may be a good avenue to enhance the evidences by subtly observing such cases with a lot of informants as the online witnesses, of course although depending upon that previous personality's more number of friends online. A statistical survey now says an average Facebook user has already had 130 'friends'.
