Reincarnation into the past?

Hello Richard. Well who can really say. But I'll offer you my two opinions. First, I don't believe that time works in the same way on the "other side". I'm not sure that in the spirit realm past, present, future has any weight or substance as a definition. Secondly, everything I've read or heard about reincarnation is that it is a progression... a forward movement. My instincts tell me going back in lives is not how it works. My belief, right now, is that we journey forward in lives learning and dealing with karma. The ultimate purpose for me, the eventual reunion with the Great Creator.

Hello thephilosopher,

I too have been fascinated by this concept for quite a while now.

It is said that in the spirit world the only time is the 'here and now', but that does not stop access to past events which spirit frequently comments upon.

I have often wondered if it is possible to die to this current life, then reincarnate in a past time.

I have found no reference to such a circumstance for all my years of reading and learning of such things, and so I seem to be stuck with the possibility that it does not happen.

A pity really, because it brings to mind the old addage:

"If I knew then, what I know now"....

Let me know if you ever find an answer to this.

I've occasionally seen some signs where something I did in the past life seems influenced by what I experienced now - not the other way around. So I feel it is possible that we do not experience things in a linear fashion - though I lean to the theory all of it happens at once, in some way we have trouble comprehending.

Is it possible? Please let me know what you think....
Hi Richard!

As a seeker, who has periodically drifted into severe states of skepticism, I can tell you only from my own perspective that the most enduring evidence on this side of the veil appears to be individual, and sometimes, verifiable testimonies from young children, some near-death experiencers, and, perhaps, a few tested mediums. The overall indication from these anecdotes appears to indicate an overwhelming time arrow from past to present.

Understandably, this could be due to our earth-bound orientation, where all reality is based on time flowing only toward the future. When we come back from wherever it is we go after death, it is likely that we would relate the experience in terms that we can understand while imprisoned in the physical illusion. Certainly, there is evidence from the scientific as well as the anecdotal communities, which strongly suggests that time may flow in both directions. And, I would agree from a theoretical standpoint, that anything is possible beyond our very limited plane of existence.

Philosophically, your question is very thought-provoking. And, it has the potential enriching the scope of our discussions. I would be quite interested in hearing your own thoughts.

Good comments Merlin, Remaining Spirit and Nightrain! That's why I like this place so much! A great question... and some excellent replies!

What do you think Philosopher? I would love to hear your follow up thoughts.

Thanks

Thank you to all who have posted your very interesting comments.

I too tend to agree that the arrow of time points from the past into the future. Accounts of incarnation into the past are extremely rare.

However, I have read that in the afterlife we may relive certain incidents that have occurred in the previous life. We are free also to make new choices and to find out what the consequences might be. This might take the form of pictures which we can enter into.

Thanks again to everyone,

I too have only heard of incarnate experiences flowing from present to future, although I have heard that it is possible to manifest a past situation and live through it again, but differently...not that it is rewriting the past, but rather giving one an opportunity to do or see the road not travelled. What is written is written, although I have heard of some foggy references to some kind of alteration of past events, and got no details.

Where I fall down is the idea that time doesn't exist in spirit. I simply cannot get my head around the idea. Is there so much time for everything that it doesn't matter, thus being a semantic question? With no time, all our incarnations have supposedly taken place in an instant...except that we have yet to finalize our application of free will on those events and lives in our future. If so, how can it have already happened?

Like so many people I also have a very hard time wrapping my own mind around the concept of time moving in any other way than past to future. It still boggles my mind that there have been experiments by Dr. Dean Radin and Dr. Daryl Bem in which precise equipment connected to subjects indicated autonomic reactions to random emotionally shocking photos moments before the actual appearance of the photos. In addition, Dr. Russel Targ, Dr. Charles Targ and others have reported numerous instances of verifiable remote viewing experiments which described future events.

These experiments along with numerous anecdotal testimony seems to clearly indicate the possibility that time flows in more than one direction. Yet, there seems to be some reason that it seems to flow in only one direction for us. God knows, I would love to find a way to turn the clock back, while retaining what I've learned over the years. But, such a feat would be in denial of the collective progress which contributed to my decisions and would negate existential interactions of the entire world; for all that we do, no matter how minor, contributes in some way to everything else.

I could not conceive myself in between lives being counseled by my guides that I could be reborn sometime in the past. It would be like a horror movie in which a time traveler goes back in time and changes the entire future of the world by accidentally stepping off the path.

Our concept of time is subject to our experience of self awareness.

In linear physical plane consciousness our awareness is in the present. We are aware of a past and anticipate a future.

However, on the spirit plane time is said to be experienced as the 'here and now', which encompasses all three awarenesses.

It has recently been put to me from spirit, through a medium, that if you place your awareness in the past, you experience that as your present. So too with the future. If your awareness is in the future, you experience that as your present.

Whatever time you are aware of being in, you experience that as your present, and have no awareness of having lived other lives in the future, although we know that we can have past life memories, and even Deja Vu or precognitive dreams which may relate to future life awarenesses.

I have often wondered about people like Leonardo Da Vinci for instance. Did he live in a previous high civilisation and carry forward his memories of technology into his present awareness, or did he live future lives and take his knowledge back with him?

There is nothing to stop your consciousness from being in multiple time periods in the physical at the same time. But no matter where you are in time, or even split into several times, you experience each as the present.

For what it's worth, my 2 Cents on the subject of moving forward in incarnations.

For whatever reason, I strongly believe that we move forward, not backwards, we advance in our incarnations as we hopefully gather knowledge on our journey forward, amassing lives as we move through time, as we know it on this plane.

Now I can see someone, in Spirit or in a Body, studying the past to learn from their mistakes, but to have a full incarnation in an earlier time by going backwards, I just don't agree with the concept.

However those who have differing opinions on this, have a right to their opinion and beliefs, just as I do, and we can both agree to disagree, in a highly civilized manner.

I suspect, when all is said and done, that the correct answer to the question, may in fact, lie somewhere between your opinion and my opinion, and we were both wrong, yet we were both right.

Past and Future

In the dimension of physical existence we are conditioned to time flowing in one direction. We note changes in our bodies as we advance through time. We see everyone as going from conception, then birth, youth, middle age, old age, and death.

When we surrender our physical bodies all of this changes. We are somehow outside of time and space. As we contemplate this new world we see our "present time" expand to be more and more expansive. Imagine we could look at a painting in this state of consciousness. We see past events depicted in this vast mural. It is only when we focus our attention on a specific part, for example a past incarnation, we enter into the "present time" of the beings depicted there.

All of which points to the existence of a "Greater Self" that includes "past" incarnations and "future ones" as well.

If past incarnations are going on now, in the physical body we are vaguely aware of this, and sometimes only in dreams. Imagine a leaf on a tree representing our current life. Other leaves on the same branch may represent other incarnations, that we interact with, and lives that may interact with our own. All the leaves on a tree may represent some sort of collective consciousness that on rare occasions may be tapped into by some people.

Thanks again for all your contributions.

Time is illusion. So all is done. All has'nt happened. Its like The Creator Of All is (with all due respect) Bi-polar. Lol!

I'm experiencing a bit of difficulty in my life reguarding a past life in the 1800's that is causing me emotional distress. I guess in time the dust will settle for me.

I've been trying to pin-point where in linear time I went out of sync with my Twin-Flame, or Twin-Soulmate.

Also...,this is a very good post question OP.
