Newbie here, nice to be here. Having spent most of today reading the board, I have learned much.
I never gave much thought to past lives, although I have always believed in reincarnation. I have been following my spiritual quest for several years and have had several "aha" moments along the way, including a wonderful reading with John Edward, and believe my mind and heart are open and ready to delve into my past lives and the lessons they will bring me.
The background: I never had dreams or memories that I would tie to a past life, nothing in childhood or even into adulthood. Three years ago, that changed when I started having a recurring dream, both daydream and while sleeping of a beautiful cove with palm trees and aqua waters. I have always been drawn to the sea and love the water. In this dream (memory?) I am standing on the cliff overlooking the still pool of water, contemplating. Not sure how I know that, but I know that I am giving thought to what is to come. Although I am watching the girl at the cliff from a distance, I know the girl at the cliff is me. I can describe her vividly. I also know that she is connected to a white dolphin, but have never seen the dolphin, I only know that she has been saved by this creature and is connected to it.
All of this seemed nothing more than a vivid beautiful dream until 2 years ago when something about the Caribbean Coast of Mexico caught my eye..it was an tourist advertisment for the area. It touched me so profoundly that I knew I had to go there..and I did. Within three months of seeing that ad, I set out on my visit to the land of the Maya. While most people visit Cancun, I flew in, rented a car and drove south until my heart told me I was where I needed to be. I ended up in a small village called Tulum. This was not a vacation, it was a pilgrimage. Although I was alone in a strange place, a foreign country..I felt as if I had come home and I was at peace.
Over the next two weeks, I visited several of the well known and not so well known Mayan Ruins and spent a vast amount of time walking the endless white sand beaches, meditating as the sun rose each morning. I did alot of snorkeling and exploring the jungle. I found that the Yucatec language of the Maya came easily to me, although it is a very complex and mysterious language. I met a Mayan Shaman who was very helpful to me and counseled me on the history and customs of the Maya, and who allowed me to attend a cenote blessing ceremony, which made me feel blessed and yet very uneasy at the same time. Cenotes, for those not familiar with the Maya, are fresh water wells, usually created by caves when their roofs fall in and they fill with fresh water. The Yucatan has no above ground rivers, they are all underground and flow to the sea, creating the caves and allowing access to the sea to/from the cenotes. The Maya considered the cenote sacred and used them at times for human sacrifice when the Gods required it. It was after this ceremony that I started to think this could be related to a past life, as the feelings that arose in me were very emotional. I was so saddened when I had to board the plane in Cancun to return home that I was in tears. I long to return. This place is on my mind and in my heart every day.
I have been doing self regression for about 2 weeks now, using tapes without much success, after an unsuccessful search for certified regressionists in my area. Having been hypnotised several years ago to quit smoking, I know that I am successful in getting deep enough in my hypnosis, it feels right. Today was the first time I actually had even a flash of anything, yes it was of the girl at the cliff, looking over the water, and I felt extrememly apprehensive about what I was going to see, what was going to happen. I also had a flash of memory where I saw myself climbing the steps of one of the pyramids, which is something only the high priest would have done in Maya culture. At the cliff, I am a girl..but when climbing the steps, I see male feet and my hands appear very masculine. I flashed to a moment of sitting at the alter, with a fire and dense smoke, being hard to breatheImmediately after seeing this quick flash of memory, my whole body jolted like I had been stuck by lightening and I was instantly awake, although somewhat dazed. That has never happened to me before, I am always able to follow the voice on the regression tapes back up to the end of the session and awaken feeling refreshed. I apologize if this post seems scattered, it has been several hours and I still feel rattled and scattered. Does anyone have an explaination of what may have happened to me today and what I should do or not do in response to it?
