Profound moments

I'm not sure what you mean by "how did you come by it"? I think I've always believed in reincarnation, even before I knew a word for it or had read anything on the subject. Its more that I always "knew" I had lived before, even though I was raised in a family that believed quite the opposite.

I didn't actually do much research into reincarnation or meditation until my daughters birth, when I was left with such a strong feeling of having done this before, and my impressions of her spirit. My next birth was nothing like this. That's not to say its not important to me, but it was just the physical birth. I did have some impressions of him, but not nearly to the same level.

I don't think we necessarily "choose" these moments. Sometimes they just come to us. For me it may have been a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Hi Traveler, that's what I meant. It's great to know there are people who have knowledge that is innate, almost instinctual. I think if more people really payed attention to themselves and the possibility they'd see it too. I agree with you that we don't choose these moments, we are blest with them...like markers on a journey.

Peace, Tinkerman

I thought about this thread tonight as I drove home. Fall is setting in and the season is in transition. Even now the wind is howling. I was pulled back in time and memory to the days when these weather signs would be telling me, warning me that cold dark days are ahead. It made me think of the death and evolution of time as we see it. Fall is so mystical, especially to a person who believes in reincarnation. Stan Kunitz spoke so eloquently in his last book The Wild Braid about the seasons and his garden. In deed his observations and poems reflect his profound moments.

It is a wonderful time of reflection. Why do you think fall calls to the soul like this? Why is it that we (or maybe just me) feel so called to past lives in this season?

Tinkerman

To me fall is both a season of great beauty and sorrow. The beauty is obvious - when the October sun shines on the trees outside my window...It's the finest piece of art ever made.

Sorrow, because I always feel a little sad knowing now summer is definitely over and the dark winter is ahead.

To me, one who believes in reincarnation, fall is the season that examplifies it best. It's a time where you prepare for winter, for the darkness and cold, you reflect upon summer, the months that have passed since last winter, and you look forward, once again, to spring and everything that will rejuvenate.

I've always thought that this must be how human beings in their 'fall' look upon their life - provided that they believe in reincarnation of course.

To me the seasons are a beautiful metaphor for a soul's cycle, fall being the age of great knowledge, reflectiveness and spirituality.

Michal, Yes perfect timing. Thank you for sharing those moments you captured on camera, beautiful! They were a perfect meditation to begin a new day. I pray your 50th was numinous.

PS What type of camera do you perfer?

I agree on what has been said about autumn, but for some reason I seem to get most PL memories (spontaneous) in springtime.

But speaking of autumn - take a look at the gorgeous colour of the plant that is climbing up the wall opposite to our balcony, here. And a close-up. Unfortunately it was cloudy today, so the colour is not as spectacular as it is when the sun is shining brightly. :)

That is very beautiful, Karoliina! I've seen plants (in lack of the correct botanical name ) like that before here in Copenhagen and they're absolutely stunning when the sun shines on them.

Thanks for sharing those pictures :)

Spring vs. autumn (fall) in terms of PL recall - which generates most flashbacks/dreams/resurgences?

It would be interesting to plot all the posts to this forum on a season-by-season basis, to see when members are most inspired to write.

And thanks for the positive comments about my photos!

I've had a few, though this one was one of those moments where prior to that moment I was one person and immediately after the moment...I was someone else. It was like a veil had been lifted:

Ten years ago, I was in the midst of deciding whether to separate from my husband. It was the hardest decision I ever had to make...for I had 2 small children. I was without support, guidance or direction. I had lost 30 pounds in a month due to the stress of indecision and truly emotional agony. Every night I asked for guidance.

My mother (who was very unsupported) had said to me the night before that with a little manipulation, I could turn my husband into what I needed him to be. The next morning I was in the bathroom drying my hair contemplating these words and how misdirected they were. As I looked at my image in the mirror...I heard a voice that was not mine...it was male and it was clear and audible. The words that were said to me were not mine...I would never say them in the way they were said to me. This voice said to me: "True love is the surrender of the Power"...in that moment I had complete clarity of what I needed to do, the truth of what I had done and where I had made my mistakes. It was truly amazing. At first I felt it was wisdone referring only to my personal situation, but soon came to realize that it is about everything. It was as if someone told me a secret, insight into the spirit of life.

From that moment on, any form of control or power over myself or anyone else that I may have used in the past was not available to me anymore. I could not muster it up even if I wanted to. The need for it was no longer there and it was like a whole new freedom I had never experienced. I have been comtemplating the meaning of "surrender" since then and have discovered what strength there is in it.

I have never been religious, however I have always been very spiritual. I can't honestly say those words came from God, but they came from something that was listening and moved me to a place where I could see much clearer.

What a powerful experience, sixeyes. It is interesting to see various ways people grow spiritually. Welcome to the forum. :)

Tinkerman,
That was absolutely beautiful, the way you described your profound moment. You brought tears to my eyes! I have had similar moments, but mine usually occur near water for some reason. Oceans, lakes, rivers, streams, it doesn't matter. Thank you for sharing with us!

Ailish
Oooh I get that feeling around water too! When I was on a cruise and we were out in the middle of the ocean with nothing but water as far as the eye could see, I loved to wake up very early just before sunrise and stand on the deck and lean on the railings when I'm the only one out there that early and watch the sunrise over all of that water and OMG! I just can't describe the feeling! It's like I'm aware of so many things that I can't verbalize! I get a far away feeling like I've been somewhere else before somewhere very far away and unreachable then later I realized that feeling was of another life somewhere. I love that feeling it's aweome. You are just so aware that there is so much more to life in this universe beyond this life and present time. I can't explain it. :) I can also get that feeling a little with a very beautiful picture of water too, like a desktop pic size or somehthing like that.

Hello friends, last night family and friends gathered here at the ranch for a simple summer evening. Early afternoon rains stopped the wheat harvest, which is almost finished. And everyone took an unscheduled break. The cool front that came through, the smell of rain, the smell of wet wheat stubble, and the ornate painted sky, with wisping clouds and deep blue colors....all made for another sensual feast of the senses. We went down near a small creek that flows water only when it rains and built a bonfire. We sat out there until the wee hours of the next morning. It was so incredible it made me think of this old thread called profound moments. I guess when I said several years ago that these moments were rare I meant it!

Any way there were several things about the night that were memorable in a past life sense. First and foremost sitting there under the wide open prairie sky with all of the smells and sights I was in a total place of familiarity. I was very moved by a sense of place...I was in my homeland. As I sat listening to the conversations I was overwhelmed by the idea that this is exactly what I had done many times in past life times. Gatherings around the fire were routine. Stories were told and retold. I felt myself talking bout the sky and the signs they were telling. You could literally feel the pulse of the earth as the fireflies beamed by the thousands. My young niece called the place "the sparkle field."

I played a song on my Ipod from an album called "Sacred Earth Drums" by David Gordon (a gift from Deb and Aili!), entitled Prayer for the Four Directions. Wow The drums, the flute, the fire, the sky, the smell of wood burning, fresh rain, vast open sky....for a moment the time was pre-Columbian...so peaceful, sacred, content, simple and yes....profound!!

Just Beautiful,Tink! )*(

Isn't the break in the heat wonderful? Funny, but what you described was a lot like my night, too. We were working in the big garden (we have 2) and watching the gorgeous sunset,& the storm clouds rolling in.Piled the kids in the car as the clouds burst open right as soon as we got home & got the baby out of the stroller! Took off and chased after the storm, the lightning was just awesome. We live in the middle of the Chippewa Hills, and you have to go some ways to find flat plains in order to see the horizon & the storms.

Seemed there was just something in the air, like the storms came thru & washed away the haze, you could breathe again.Brought back old memories,& made me miss someone, somewhere, that I just can't quite see clearly.

Profound Experiences

I appreciate you resurrecting this thread. Being new here, I find it interesting that you do, on occasion, approach subjects other than past lives.

In reading through the posts here I see most people have received the ‘Oneness with the Universe’. I don’t know if spiritual experiences are received in any particular order, like step by step lessons, or if they are received randomly as the soul is ready for them.

I have sorted out a few spiritual experiences and tried to define them in my very inadequate way:

Oneness with the Universe

Divine Love

Surrender Power (control)

Music of the Spheres

Consciousness in every atom

Forgiveness required for spiritual progression

Several people have posted their experiences in receiving some of these powerful lessons. They are life-changing when they happen to us. With each experience is given an eternity of understanding and wisdom. This is so far beyond words that we struggle in vain to explain the experience. It is up to us to try to integrate the new understanding into our daily lives.

Does anyone have any others they could add to the list?

One of my favorite old threads... thought it would be nice to bring it forward again.
Thanks, Tinkerman, for activating this thread, again! I think the most profound moments in my life occurred whenever I was alone in a place where I could observe the clear night sky in some relatively remote location. When I was a scout camping without a tent in Northern Michigan; when I first arrived in Vietnam, sleeping on the roof of a hooch; and, when I was camping with historic reenactors of the American Revolution in Western Massachusetts.

I've been on oceans and in deserts which overwhelmed me by their great expanse. But, nothing has ever affected me the way our vast starry canopy has. In spite of the great volume and distance, it made me feel that one is not alone in this world, and that we are all connected under this common sky. Personal issues seemed so pointless and inconsequential not only while observing those three profound moments, but also whenever I remembered them.

It happened to me when I was a young teenager and I went camping near an old airport with my Boy Scout troop.

It was cold (at least for Florida) and the night sky was crystal clear, with stars I had never seen before and it seemed like I was seeing every star that had ever been created in the night sky that night.

I drug my sleeping bag outside of the tent, and warmly bundled up, I laid on my back and looked at the night sky and suddenly it came to me that I had done this before.

Even though I was slowly starting to believe in Reincarnation, I felt myself in another time and place, in fact, in another body doing the very same thing I was doing that night, looking at the different constellations and an occasional "shooting star".

Astronomy was a big love of mine then (and still is) and I was trying to identify the different constellations and stars, starting with the stars of the Winter Hexagon and the Winter Triangle, along with the Big Dipper and Little Dipper in Ursa Major and Ursa Minor.

Laying there, under the canopy of stars that seemed so familiar (as if from a Past Life), yet so different now, in this time and place, I felt so peaceful and calm, and one with the universe as a drop of water might feel as it merged with the ocean.

I slowly fell asleep out there and was awakened later by the Scoutmaster who ordered me back to my tent before I froze to death.

That night, years ago, I had never felt so (the words escape me) the best I can describe it as, is serene and tranquil for want of a better description and have never felt that way since, and perhaps that is the way I will feel when I die, and go to my "real" home!

Sorry for the long post again, I just wanted to convey how I felt that night, long ago.

It’s been sometime since a moment in time has knocked on my “profound” door. But the other day it was raining and there was nothing to do here on the ranch so I decided to take a drive over to a small town 45 minutes away. I’d heard they had a good farmers market and I was looking for some tasty fresh tomatoes. The little town is one of those mid-sized Kansas places whose prime had past thirty years ago. But, being the county seat and the home of a small college, it has managed to maintain its population and identity. One hundred fifty years ago it was a frontier city built on the banks of the Republican River. The city center is doted with these huge old Victorian homes, some with turrets and huge screened porches. I love them, and spent a good hour just driving around taking them all in.

The old city park was the scene for the farmers market; huge ancient Oak trees canopied the trucks and vans holding produce from all over the area. As I walked around I came to a truck with these incredible blackberries on display, tomatoes too. So I stood in the forming line waiting for those ahead of me to make their purchases. I immediately noticed a distinguished little old lady standing next to me. She was easily 90 years old or more. She was precisely dressed in an ankle length sundress, silk shawl and the most beautiful vintage Gatsby like, lavender bowler hat. It was as if she’d stepped out of the 1920s. Her serene smile and soft complexion were so beautiful. She seemed timid amidst the growing group of people, yet she seemed to study everyone and offered a smile to all she made eye contact with. Shortly after, I noticed a family of three joined the group. One of the group was an incredibly beautiful twenty year old girl with a cut off t-shirt and baggy sweat pants. Her beauty literally gave me pause; her Kiera Knightly face was stunning. The young beauty stood right behind the older woman and immediately I could since time in a very profound way. Beauty was very evident in each of them and I wanted so desperately to photograph them side-by-side. And, as if my thoughts prompted her, the little lady turned and noticed the young Venus. Her smile grew and radiated a kindness… almost a love that seemed so sincere, so honest. Then, with the sweetest timid voice, she softly said to the girl “you’re so pretty.” It was so perfect. The girl blushed a smile and said thank you. The little saintly lady returned to her solitary place in line and feebly shuffled forward. The girl snuggled close to her father and in a whisper told him what had happened. My heart leapt out to each of them as I tried to hide my notice of the whole scene. It was over in a flash, I made my purchase and hit the road.

Mesmerized by the simplicity of two contrasting beauties I felt blessed. Funny, but two movies came to mind as I thought of them. First was the Notebook and the other was Titanic. It was as if the little old lady was every bit the young beauty, and I got to see them, through time, side by side.

What a wonderful expression and description of timeless beauty...and from the lady's appreciation, to the daughter's appreciation and through your appreciation to us. Thank you for including us in your moment T-Man!
