I decided to finally start researching the various names that have been mentioned in articles about my PL. I started with the person I have the most negative feelings towards, the person whose name I couldn't speak aloud without crying: Dr. Alan Frank Guttmacher. This was a man who apparently COULD NOT stop meddling in the lives of others. In our case, he separated us for the first time ever (bit late to do that to adults, I think. I mean, it absolutely proved pointless) and sent us to separate medical residencies. And lo and behold, upon researching the guy, I find out that he was Vice President of the American Eugenics Society. Lord....eugenics?? Meddling! Up in everyone's business for real, huh! He seemed to have strong feelings about the correct ways to Be. He was a twin himself, and believed twinship to be dangerous, which is why we bothered him so much. I'm just fascinated by this discovery...it's horrible, but almost funny, because it completely checks out with his behavior, that he would be a eugenicist. A bit surprising though...he was Jewish. And everyone who knows history knows that the American eugenics movement inspired the Germans...what an unpleasant situation. Interestingly, he was also the president of Planned Parenthood, only the SECOND one, right after the founder...that shocked me tbh. That someone of such importance would have played such an important role in our lives.
