My son is afraid of being alone. Always has been. But lately it's been worse that even in daylight he won't be in another room of the house without someone. (Fortunately he has a brother just 18mos older.)
The level at which he gets upset if left alone is also increased. I don't know why, I was working FT, now I'm home FT, I would think it would have gotten better.
I'm really wondering if I should have him seen by someone, but here's the problem:
Long before he was born I had visions of having three kids, the oldest a boy would have a best friend who we informally adopted. Then later that vision changed to a friend who came to live with us in Jr High, but still wasn't formally adopted. Then later, it changed to he was a foster child that came to us at about age 7, or wait... was it 4.... So when I expecting my 2nd of 3 kids, a girl, I was shocked to find out on the ultrasound it was a boy. Questioning my visions, and my faith, and my daughter I already loved, I asked one day, "Why? What happened?'
I had a vision of an 18 month old boy, attached to tubes and wires at a hospital, struggling for life and heard a voice say, "I tried to hang on mom, I tried". Then I knew who this little boy was. I also got the feeling that this previous mother who apparently kept changing her fate to become more and more inept as a mother, left him alone for long periods of time, and eventually abandoned him to be found near-death and taken to the hospital where he later passed away.
I have never told him this or mentioned it in his presence, so I don't think he's created this fear or belief out of my thoughts of his past life. And besides that, this has been since he was a baby. When put down, even when he was just a few hours old, he got upset. After a few months old, he'd be okay in being put down IF he could see someone in the room with him. If not, he'd scream.
So I've got this simple little question about children's phobias and when if at all, I should seek professional help, except if you add the fact that I think this phobia came from his last life, it stops being so simple as "find a child therapist in the phone book".
