My Little Brother

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I came across this page while I was searching about children's past lives. I just want to write about some things about my little brother that I find very interesting and I would love to know what you guys think. I began to get interested in past lives after my little brother was about 6months old. Ok so I'll start with some info so you guys can understand me a little better :).. My little brother and I are 21 years apart! He was a little suprise as my mom thought she was done having kids. My little brother is 1 and a half and has started to "talk" (we can understand some things he says). He does not behave like a 1yr old. I can say that because I have a one year old as well and they are VERY different. (My mom and I were pregnant at the same time) Anyway, he is a healthy little boy but has been very different since he was born. He is very mature for his age. He listens to everything we ask him to do, he pretends to help my mom clean the house. He cleans after himself. He can't never have his hands dirty, he will run to my mom so she can help him clean his hands. He is very protective of my mom's things like her purse, cell phone etc. We speak only spanish to him. He says the usual mama, papa, etc... But these two different words for normal things like to get us to take him somewhere he says something like "ow-shia" and to get picked up he says "mi". My mom understands him because that's what he's always said to her. When we try to correct him he just simply repeats what he usually says as if telling us" yes, that's what I said" :)... Another thing that I think is so different is that he gets grossed out by things. For example yesterday he saw my son eating a banana and all of a sudden he began to gag. He can't look at people chew because he gets grossed out. My mom doesn't understand why he just started doing that because no one has ever thaught him that and she finds it strange how a little one year can understand what it is to feel grossed out. So far those are the things that I believe make him a little different from a 1yr old. I don't know if this sounds normal to the rest of you but I would like to hear what you guys think. I will update more once he begins to talk a little more. Thank you all for taking the time to read this!

What a sweet little brother you have, lovelypinks!

It's a great idea to keep a journal of his unique habits and the things he says. This will help you find any patterns that develop among the little pieces you notice over time.

Welcome to the forum, lovelypinks. Your brother does sound like a unique little soul. I've never heard of a child that age gagging when watching someone else eat. Does it seem more than a coincidence to you that your baby and your brother were born at around the same time? I would watch for a Past Life connection between those two.

The words he uses, could it be that they're simply modified versions of words he's heard elsewhere? I've seen children call things that make no sense whatsoever unless you think very hard about it because they're using severely shortened versions of the right words or because they've misheard something the first time and think it's the right way to say it. Or even just mix it up in their heads. A little boy saying "mi" to get picked up makes me think of "me", as though he's saying, "I'm here, it's me, pick me up!".

As to the gagging and being easily grossed out, a friend's child had that as well when very young. I think some children are naturally more sensitive to things, just as some children get easily scared and others not at all. He may associate chewed food with something he found disturbing or frightening, like vomiting or something he saw. He could also be very sensitive to smells, textures, things like that. As to being neat, is your family generally very neat? Or have you ever told him something like, clean up after yourself, don't touch that because it's dirty, come wash your face so it'll be clean, etc.? He could have picked it up from that.

hi lovelypinks.

I thought something similar to Pthalo regarding the modification of words: To me, Ow-shia when I said it, sounded like outside (in English, though...)Does he pronounce the 'i' with a long 'i' as in my or like 'e' as in he?

I forgot, in your post, if you said everybody speaks Spanish around him or English...sorry, have to go check that.

OK, so I see only Spanish is spoken to him, so the 'ow-shia'...if it is 'outside' would still be a different language for him...interesting.

Thank you all for your comments! Mere Dreamer, they are exactly 4 months apart. They very different from each other and they don't really get along well at all. I'm very curious about that as well, considering that we both didn't plan on getting pregnant much less at the same time lol. My mom is now open to and wonders if my little brother will talk about a past life later on. He is honestly a very special little boy he does not act his age at all. Phthalo and Beth C, at first it was what I thought but we do not speak any English to him at all. My parents are Spanish speakers and don't know any English. He pronouces it "Ow- she- ah" wich could kind of sound like "Afuera" (outside for spanish) but the weird thing is that he has a word for going outside he says something like "e-hi-ya" and he only uses the word "ow-she-ah" when he wants us to take him around the house to get his toys. Another thing is that he will not bend over to get his toys he gets our finger takes us to the toy and he says "ow-she-ah" and points for us to pick it up. Another thing is that when ever he would fall on the floor he couldn't pick himself up just recently he learned to get up by himself. He is very independent so that's why I thought it was weird. Phathalo he gets grossed out even if you show him your tongue and he gags like to the point where he will throw up. I do believe he is sensitive but I find I kind of odd for a one year old because it's not like we say ewww at something then he starts to gag so he only gags at things that he thinks are gross. He is very neat but he has always been that way even when he eats he will eat very tiny portions at a time and usually when kids start leaening to eat they are very messy and try to get hand full of food. When my mom noticed the way my son ate she was like I wish he would eat like your son because it takes him a VERY long time to eat anything. He also doesn't let her feed him. If she tries to he will push the food away from her and continues eating by himself. I honestly believe he is a special little kid if you guys were to meet him you would know what I'm talking about it's something you can basically see l.o.l :) I will keep you guys updated and see if he does or say more things!

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like it could be past life related. We may have to wait until he is talking more. There are many people here who speak foreign languages so maybe someone will notice something.

Welcome, lovelypinks. It is so nice that you are open to PL experiences, and watchful for the signs in the little ones around you. It is good to write them down, you never know they will be helpful when real PL signs show up. I am sure your little brother is a very special boy, and I can read he is surrounded by a lot of love. As far as I can read from your postings, he is not really showing behavior that might link to a bad PL experience.

The only possible thing that IMO could link together all that you tell us, is that maybe in the past he had some back- or leg-injury, and was not able to bend to pick things up, or get up himself when he fell. The extreme neatness might be connected to a memory of being in some sterile environment, again a hospital comes to mind. But all this is just speculation of mine. :)

not to mix things up but what language do you think it might be linked to ?

Again, he may have picked up the word somewhere, does he hear any English in his life at all (movies he watches, school, people around town)? It could be just some Spanish word he has muddled up too. If I told you half of the "words" some kids in my family or the children of friends have used, they'd just sound as weird. Most of the time the explanation is simply that, they've mixed up a word or words, sometimes even words that aren't related to that at all just because they heard the word once.

This sounds normal to me too. Kids do weird things all the time. If anything I'd take him to the doctor to check why he had trouble getting up by himself. None of this sounds too weird or worrying.

I also don't think this is that odd... kids that young can and do get grossed out, scared, disturbed, etc. by things around them. Sometimes it's simply because they dislike the way something looks, feels or sounds. Some children also have very sensitive senses. And some children are just neater than others, just as some children are more confident and less easily scared.

I know a guy who is an adult now and is still grossed out by the texture of cotton, he was grossed out by it even as a child. There's been several studies that show that young children often get scared or disgusted by things because of the associations they've developed, such as being scared of an object because the first time they looked at it they heard a sound that scared them or because it seemed scary the first time they saw it.

I'm not saying things like these can't be past life related, I just think it's worth looking into the more simple and logical explanations first. ;) If in doubt, you can always check with a paediatrician or child development expert who can tell you if these behaviours are unusual or not.

I disagree. There is no logical reason why any child would be grossed out by any of these things.
Right. I've explained why I don't think it's illogical in my post. The associations a child develops in their early years can cause them to be scared or disturbed by things due to the first time they've encountered those things having been scary to them or because of what they associate with those things. Same as adults, sometimes people end up disliking a food that reminds them of a time they were sick, a fabric that reminds them of the curtains in a place they disliked, and so on and so forth. If it's already irrational enough for adults sometimes, imagine being a child who doesn't understand most of what's going on around them.

There are many studies that indicate that it's likely that most fears are acquired after birth and are not necessarily innate, that children learn how to be afraid of things due to experiences they found scary or due to seeing adults act in that manner. Think of a fear of needles, for example. If you look at a newborn getting his blood drawn for the first time, he won't necessarily cry just from seeing the needle, a child who doesn't remember that probably won't cry just from it either, but after learning that it's painful, they may grow up to be afraid of that.

I don't find some of my own fears logical either and yet I know from anecdotes or my own memories that I didn't have most of them as a child.

Once again, I'm not saying this is not past life related but going on a couple of anecdotes to jump to that conclusion without ruling out other logical explanations first seems too rushed to me. Not everything has to be about past lives.

This is a totally weird thought but when reading about how he pointed to things and expected others to pick them up for him I wonder if he was a boss or royalty or something where it would have been beneath him to pick up something.

Just a thought ...

Phthalo, it is possible that these early fears and odd habits are past life related in most cases, rather than the explanation being "it just happens."

I would think such inexplicable habits and reactions transplanted from a prior life would be more the expected explanation than an exceptional event ... if you believe that reincarnation is common. There is no reason to believe that this would only begin in childhood, either. We all discover new things about ourselves when responses are triggered by experiences we hadn't had before.
