Before our daughter was born and before she had any idea that she was pregnant, my wife had a strong dream that she went to India to pick up a dying old man´s soul to help him pass on to a new existence.
She spoke to his family who gave her their permission. When she woke up she knew she was pregnant.

Now Amanda is 2 1/2 yrs old. About 5 months ago, when she had been playing with a word: "mimiyagi" ( she could already speak long, proper sentences by then, so this was a rare "make-believe" word), I couldn´t help asking about it, half jokingly," -Who´s m.? Are you m.?" She just looked up at me, sitting on the potty, very seriously, almost reluctantly, shaking her head no, saying only: "Pooba." Me, taken aback: "Are you Pooba?" She nods sternly. I´m sweating.
Later I check on the internet and Pooba is a male Indian first name( though I´ve certainly never heard of it). Also, the word is unlike any she knows or we use (we are swedish and speak that language).
I asked her once more that night,15 min. later " Who is Pooba?" She answers "Me" and says nothing else. Since then she hasn´t mentioned it (me neither).

Now, since she was ca. 1 1/2 she´s loved rubbing stuff ( like cream cheese...) on her forehead , right between the eyes. And she does yoga postures very well, having never seen them done. The "cobra", among others. One day now, she was sitting in a perfect half lotus position behind an open cupboard door in the kitchen, totally still for a good 5 minutes...

Like I said she talks a lot for her age so maybe there will be more like this.
Anyone else here got a little yogi or any
similar experience?

Hi Shield,

Welcome to the forum! Your experience with your wife's dream of the old man's soul corresponding with your daughter's conception is very interesting. I think your wife was able to see before hand your daughter's past life. What a great gift!

I would journal as much as you can about her past life memories, behaviors, etc. Also, when your intuition tells you the time is right, you might want to ask her more about her memories.

Have you read Children's Past Lives by Carol Bowman? Her book is an excellent source for anyone, but mostly parents with children.

Again, welcome!

Welcome Shield,

A most intriguing experience!!!!!!!!!! Not only your wife's dream...that corresponds with your daughters actions..but your daughters actions at such a young age!

Does she tell you about her dreams at all?
Does she do any drawing yet? As Susie suggested..start a journal..take notes..write her actions and words down and ask her sometime...when she is in a Yogi position.."What are you doing?" Let her tell you.....If you haven't already...you might be surprised.

And please keep us posted!!!!!!!

This is so interesting. I'm anxious to hear what more your daughter has to share, and your wife.

Welcome to the board, by the way. Hope you enjoy yourself here.

Thanks for welcomes and responses, I find all this very fascinating myself and I´m intensly curious about it. I´m a little afraid, though, too push or prompt our daughter to much to tell more. Maybe to the point of not asking enough...? Kind of a tricky balance. I guess you have to kind of feel your way through it...

A few other small Indian "clues":
When Amanda was born she had a very
clear vortex of laguno hair on her forehead right between her eyes, marking the spot of what they call the third eye. It was visible for about a year or more. She also had and still has, a kind of slight birthmark called (in swedish) "storkbite" between the eyes. These are quite common things for little children to have, but taken in the context of her behaviour
I guess they should be noted.

By the way, she did a curious thing today.
Nothing to do with yoga and it might be nothing at all. But it had a funny feel to it.
She was play pretending to be hurt on the foot and I came over to blow on the hurt
( I don´t know, really, if this is something you do everywhere, but always in our
country). But suddenly she said that I shouldn´t blow on it ´cause the hurt would
get in my mouth. Then she went for a flat little pillow laying nearby and told me to
spit in it . I go "What?"( bright as ever),
she insists that i spit in the pillow, holding it with one hand, pushing down my head to it with the other. I pretend to spit, she´s content with that, takes away the pillow, saying "There it´s out now, the hurt."

I don´t know. To me the situation sort of rings of the way traditional shamans and healers work. I seem to have seen descriptions of how they take the hurt or
evil from the patient in the mouth and spit it out. I know they sometimes blow smoke over their patients.
Of course, if there is a likeness, it could also just be a little kid´s instinctual understanding of a natural process. Not necessarily having any thing to do with memories.
Does anyone know if my idea about
this kind of traditional healing is correct?

P.S.
Thankyou, Susie, I did read Carol Bowman´s book ( and I´m rereading it, right now). That´s how I got to be looking for things out of the ordinary in my kid and how I found this great website.

Bye for now, shield

Your child sounds great and it is also great that you notice it, but that is part of the reason that you were chosen by the yogi as parents, that it would be a correct situation. The name Amanda is interesting, because ananda is used in many yogi names, such as Paramahansa Yogananda. You should see if your child is telepathic. Think thoughts to her that you would normally say and see if she responds to them, there is probably a good chance that she could be. Best of luck with your great child.

Shield, I hope you give yourself an opportunity to go back through the posts concerning this type of thing. I say that because there are so many wonderful suggestions on how to very discretely bring out these memories with your child.

Someone shared once to make things into a carefree game like just finding a quiet peaceful place in which to share your dreams from the night before, you going first. Or...talk about something that happened in your life years back, which might encourage her to share more of her memories without feeling like you are trying to pry something out of her, which doesn't work.

There are a lot of people on the board who have a great amount of wisdom to share about these things. So, give yourself an opportunity to look around and read more. You won't regret it.

I'm following this with great interest. I'm so glad that you are posting to the board.

Sincerely,
CrowEyes

Hi Shield

Well…what an interesting, precious bundle of joy you have for yourself there .

I agree with what you noticed when your daughter reacted to getting rid of the “hurt”…very connected to healing and cleansing oneself of the negative energy…I have known some healers who either use salt crystals or the foundational wall of a house, or building, to channel out energy after a healing…I’m sure this dates back and is connected to a healing ritual as well…although I’m not sure exactly which one!!!??!!

As already suggested, journals are invaluable when our children start displaying any signs of memories and such, and reading up on the subject will help you understand a lot more and know that what you are going through is shared by MANY parents out there…the threads in this forum alone are filled with similar stories of memories emerging in their children; phobias, habits and fears, etc.

Artwork is another way of getting your child to communicate their inner feelings and thoughts with you, children are particularly gifted when it comes to being able to “create” and “expose” their inner feelings through other outlets - be it writing, drawing or play…even getting her to tell you a story about what her playtime adventures and interactions are about will help shed some light also – as you’re already realising.

Also, maybe you could look into her dreams and what they reveal by way of symbols, etc, as Deborah suggested and keep a journal of anything that comes up. You could make it like a game - every morning, you could all sit down to breakfast and share your stories/dreams from the night before…our dreams can reveal a lot of details and symbols that we miss in the waking world.

I have made a few posts in here before to others mothers on the use of “clean” language when talking about these memories when their children begin to bring them up (I will look for some links later and post them here for you)…I know “prodding around” too much worries some parents, but as long as it is done in the right manner, it’s no different from asking them anything else. Clean Language is designed in therapies such as regression and hypnosis in general, to not impose any of our own thoughts, projections or conclusions unto their memories, which can work to “taint” them as such. Clean language is simply asking questions like “And what happened next???”…”And so then what did you (or another) do???”…they are question that act to expand on their memories, without imposing or leading them.

I look forward to hearing more

Thankyou all for advice and replies!
It´s a nice support and a great help in getting a feeling for how to go about it.

Croweyes. yes,I have been checking out many different posts here lately. Exciting and inspiring!

justin: She´s pretty telepathic. Little mindreadings happen every other day.

Gotta go- but will be back.

Take care, shield

Yea I figured she would be since I was the same way when I was young. Just wish I would have gotten into spirituality at a younger age instead of 19.(I am 20 now) I don't know how extensive her vocab is, but ask her what she sees with her eyes closed. If she can see any green things or what not with her eyes closeda that are related to tantra. Also the dream idea is great. Once again if expereiences are the same she will probably have dreams with her 3rd eye or eyes in other areas.

hi,

You know this is curious. there is a practice in rural india to treat snake bites. Where a person sucks at the portion bitten by the snake and spits out the venom. May not mean anything. It just struck me when i read what your daughter did.

------------------
I am What I am

That´s an interesting idea, justin, seeing things with eyes closed. But: "eyes in other areas"..., you mean chakras or something else?
19 is early , i think. Good for you-stick with it.

Thanks for the tip, Sumi. Might be something to it. I´ll remember to watch how she reacts to snakes in stories and pictures.

Yea eyes in other areas represented chakras. Would have dreams with an eye on my head and eyes on hands all the time when younger. Plus would always dream lucidly and do some tantra stuff with eyes closed laying down. Ive gotten back into all this stuff again after having a dream with a 3rd eye about a year ago when I wasn't into spiritual stuff. Yogis do tantra, so she prolly still does some naturally I would guess. Like seeing the heart center with her eyes closed and other things. And yes I am goign to stick with it. I want to go to a Buddhist Monastery and become a monk, then yogi. Can already do tantra. But your child sounds spectacular and its really good that you guys notice this, which is of coarse why he/she chose you.

Hi, justin -sorry for taking long to answer.

It´s very interesting to here about, from your now grown-up point of view , about similar childhood experiences as our daughter seems to be having. It´s a good
idea, too, to be aware that there are inner things going on corresponding to the outer, visible.

Also i think it´s fascinating that dream had such a life changing effect on you. If possible, would love to here about it in more detail.

I have dabbled a little in Hatha yoga, too, and related meditation methods. None that our daughter had seen when she did the things I wrote about. The other day I tried showing her a lotus position. She just said" Don´t sit like that!" and wasn´t interested. No use forcing it, huh...

But I love it and am about to take it up in a serious way again. They have a good school of tantrayoga here in Scandinavia.

Monkhood is a heavy thing, but can be a wonderful opportunity, i think, if it´s right for you.

take care, shield

I can't remember all of this correctly now, but I know a woman who dreamt or saw a vision of an old man dressed as an Indian holy man when her daughter in law was pregnant. She took it for a sign that the baby was going to be such a soul returned. When he was little and not exactly talking yet in English, they, his grandparents, arrived one time when the daughter in law was very frustrated. She said her baby had been yelling a certain sound and crying and screaming and wouldn't stop. The sound meant nothing to her, but the grandmother's husband, who speaks Hindi, said it meant "Water!"
On another occasion he was sitting on his grandfather's lap and pointed at something, saying, "Look!" in Hindi.
As a teenager he had an interest in studying a certain kind of healing; I have forgotten what, but gave up after meeting some frustration from the people in charge of such programs and lapsed in to being much more ordinary, interested in computers and fooling around. Terron

No problem on time taking to respond, people have lives that can be busy other than being on the computer posting. Plus I can't get mad anyways, hehe. The dream I had about a year ago was an out of body dream where I saw myself with an eye on my head which was indigo colored. I was not into spirituality or knew much about the 3rd eye before this. And it was completely black in the background except for myself. That is what got me started into spirituality again, as well as other spiritual experiences. Oddly enough marijuana made me regain telepathy and clairvoyance abilities. It makes me enter meditative trances and I have had several people see my auras when I am like this. They all freak out b/c its pure white. But yes I want to become a monk, eventually a yogi. I like Buddhism the most b/c I came to my own conclusions and they match the Buddhas, except I believe in a God and enlightenment is becomign one with God again. I also like hinduism, but dislike the caste system. I just want to make quick money to pay off college loans and then go overseas. Forcing thigns on your child might not be good at this yougn of an age, I really don't know. I guess if its meant to be she will be drawn back to spirituality like I was. I don't think it could hurt though at younger ages.

Hi,
Just to make sure i´m making myself clear (the finer nuances of english escape my grasp sometimes): I wasn´t trying to make my daughter sit like that, lotus, just showing her my own amateur version(it hurts!) of it to see how she reacted to that. By "forcing it" I meant, forcing or dragging out memories, which is tempting out of egotistical curiosity, but may not be the right thing for the kid.

Very interesting dream! And I´m sure some drugs can open up your mind
spiritually. The thing is, I believe, that it´s usually on a short term basis. In the longer run you have the drawbacks of
various kinds of dopeheadedness coming in. I know many hindu yogis use marijuana but I doubt if it´s any of the(spiritually) more succesful ones. It can be a dead-end short cut.

gotta run(it´s morning here now!)-will continue later.

Yea I agree its better to do spiritual development sober. I do not smoke as often now. I probably smoke once or twice a month now. It has helped me remember though, I really do not know how to go about teaching your daughter about the things. I would guess just talk about dreams and slowly introduce her into different spirituality topics, especially Hindu ones. If she is meant to remember she probably will, but you guys helping can't hurt, which is probably why she chose you. Good luck with your blessed child.

The name Amanda does indeed closely resemble the sanscrit word Ananda - I think it's the closest name possible for that word. I did a dictionary search.

Entry: Ananda
Meaning: Joy, pleasure, bliss.

The resonance of that name - joy, bliss - brings in mind not only the bright and shining nature of your daughter, but the contrast to northern-European cynicism and depressed moods she will be facing as she starts to recognise the culture and traditions around her.

Please keep in mind that the transformation and psychic impact of being born into a highly "American" country such as Sweden will be great. No more climbing to the mountaintop and living in lone meditation for years. No more plain and simple life with a village of friends and relatives but instead a whole country full of people in close interaction, lots of communication and telephones, lots of information flying from left to right and lots of different cultures clashing.

I consider myself young, now being 20 years of age, and I'd like to share some of my experiences of growing up in the "west".

This is at least the second time around for me in a western country - I live in Finland now. This kind of consumer-feast civilisation is, in my opinion, a heap of decay in comparison with simpler and more nature-centered lifetimes. I've had lots of trouble adjusting - getting along with these strange atheist people around me and at the same time keeping my own self from not falling into the vanity of plastic western life.

A lot of my friends are also a bit dumbfounded amidst the winds of modern life. We have traveled a long time, the coming of electricity and other luxuries has happened, in a larger scale, in the wink of an eye.

Your daughter will have her share of adjustment, too, but since she has willed to be born here, she knows what she's doing. I still suggest you keep her informed about cultural differences she will go through. And as she grows older and starts building her ego and thus forgetting about the timeless past, give her some clues so she won't lose herself completely into the abyss of cynical materialism.

Well, enough from me. I know you are exactly the parents she wanted to have!

Lots of blessings for your family and friends,
J

Hi!

justin: yeah, I think you´re right; "slowly" and "if she´s meant to", are the key words here!

She´s a bit of a handful at the moment, though I love her to bits, strong-willed as only a 2-yr old can be.

Also, of course, kids reflect your own state of mind instantaneously.

She has been speaking of some interesting things, for example being a big boy riding a motor-bike, falling and hurting herself. She´s always had an exaggerated fear of motorcycles.

Are you doing tantra actively?
Will get my crap together and get started
on the yoga. Once you make use of it, the benefits are great.

J Alfred: Thanks for the tips. Will keep what you said in mind. Yeah, northern Europe can get to you, sometimes. Although, I´m not sure that parts of india are any better for "westernization".

I don´t know. Don´t know much at all about the place, now that I think about it.
Actually...when thinking of India I´ve always been... very content NOT to be there (these things are funny!).

Many blessings, shield

(BTW I like your fiziwig quote!)

Hi Shield,

I just read your post thru, think I was avoiding this whole section of the forum b4 due to guilt feelings. Im feeling more talkative now.

Much as Sumi said, I have seen it here in America also that when someone is snakebit the venom is drawn from the wound by mouth and spit out.( I just assumed this was a universal remedy for snake bite.) And ofcourse if you are bitten by a snake what is the most likely place for the bite to occure, on the foot or ankle, just like little Amanda was playing. That could very well be a direct hit for her memory wise.

Ofcourse, when I read your description of her actions, what first came to mind was a documentary I saw a couple of months ago on Korea. In it was a shaman/medicine woman, their traditional title was different I dont remember it now, but the idea and function was unavoidably the same. Anyway she was healing someone and one of her actions was to spit away the evil spirits.

So snakebite or shaman/holyman it sounds like you are on the right track.

OH, I also remember a documentary on cobras and it stating how many people still die each year in India due to snake bite. Even people who dont actively work in the fields , like a holyman perhaps , fall victim because the snakes enter the houses at night seeking warmth, join them where they sleep, and dont appreciate the rude awakening when the humans move. Some people never even wake from their sleep. If nothing else, sounds like a peaceful way to go, seems to me would definitely leave unfinished business though.

Just some thoughts. Hope you find 'em helpfull.

(not so) bluemoon

Hi bluemoon,

Thanks for your thoughts and ideas. It´s always helpful to have feedback on your own ponderings. To see that they´re maybe not all off. I, too, remember seeing a documentary as the one you are speaking about, maybe the same even.

And, yes, I guess something that´s exotic to me, like snakebite, to people in rural India for ex., would be an everyday kind of thing.

Good to hear you´re not so blue, anymore
Take care, shield

I did lots of yoga poses as a child, my Mom picked up on it becuse she was studying yoga. Or maybe I picked up on it from her? I have studied yoga for years now, even taught it for a while. But it is just a little tidbit, no profound experiences which could indicate a past life.
