Life Purpose?

Determining your own life purpose is something I find to be one of the most difficult tasks facing the members of the past life community. I thought about my own for years. Recently, while reading Helen Wambach's book, "Life Before Life", I got a clear view of why I am here. I have to confess, I wonder if the book would act as a "trigger" for others. For those who feel they have determined their own life purpose, how did you make the discovery? Are other people interested in the question?

Back when I was a teenager I had a night where I couldn't sleep. Even though it was dangerous, I slipped out of the house one night. We lived in a crime-riddled neighborhood, so I strapped my Ka-Bar to my side and headed out to the shadows. Something outside was calling me and I was going to answer it. After awhile of wandering around and hanging out, I thought things seemed awfully quiet and surrealistic. There should have been lights on in somebody's apartment, but every window was dark. I began to suspect an OOBE, but I personally felt very anchored in reality. It was just the world around me that seemed to be odd. I leaned up against a streetlight and waited to see what else I felt or sensed. After a bit I noticed that across the courtyard I could see me own family's apartment. My bedroom window was still slightly open, the way I had left it to get out. I stared for a few minutes and then felt that same urge calling me to go back to my room. I did and fell into bed, dropping into a very deep sleep. When I awoke, well, it's hard to describe, but I felt like I was right where I needed to be, and that, as my situation changed, I would still be where I was needed and while I may not have what I wanted at any given time, something or someone would see to it that I had what I needed.

So far, that's been the case. My creature comforts could use some improvement, but my needs are met. (And yes, I have managed to be in those situations of being in the right place at the right time when someone needed help most.)

That's an impressive story, ShiftKitty. I am almost as impressed by the fact that you owned a Ka-Bar, as I am the story. This is a weird synchronicity. I never encountered that term until yesterday. To me, that's a signal that you and I are both in exactly the right place, at exactly the right time. I like that you are given what you need, and you also "give back". It's a perfect illustration of how the universe seems to work.

Thank you. I still have my Ka-Bar, too! I think many people are "right where they need to be", but not many of them recognize it.

The way I recognize the signs of being "on-track" are verbal cues. If I have never heard a word for something, and it suddenly pops up multiple times over two or three days, I take that as a sign that everything is going according to plan. I have been in a bit of a fog for several days - how ironic that it took a Ka-Bar to prod me out. I guess the life purpose we were posting about is moving forward!

I am here (embodied, on Earth) because people I love were dead set on coming here. I thought that they were going to have a hard row to hoe, and I thought they were approaching it rather naively and starry eyed. I used logic. I begged. I tried to bargain. But they were dead set on going.

I remember "saying" (communication is telepathic in Bardo) that they don't know how hard it is there. My guide said that is why they have to go. Ugh!

There was no way that I was going to let them do that alone, so here we are.

When I am "on track", feeling balanced, and things are going smoothly, I see repeated numerals everywhere. My eldest daughter's due date, for instance, was 3 / 3 / 03. She was born at 11:11.

Just the universe's little way of saying things are going to be OK.

Yes, the repeated numerals are good sign posts also. It's remarkable how closely your memories correspond to Helen Wambach's research in "Life Before Life". Most of her subjects were unwilling to reincarnate, and were either pushed into it, or came because souls they loved needed them to be here.

Wow. I am currently reading this book! I have only just started, but already like it very much. Will continue reading...

It is a "wow", Lady, and I would love everyone to read her books. She was a true pioneer, and died of a cardiac episode when she was only sixty. For anyone who is interested, she also wrote "Reliving Past Lives". A book called "Mass Dreams of the Future", by Chet B. Snow, was published posthumously, and based on her research results. Argonne first introduced me to Helen's work. Thank you, Argonne!

Thanks Briar Rose, need to read this.

Recently I got a strong realisation that I chose to make my own way in this life. It explains my strong independance & a relatively easy going family.

Not a life purpose, still pondering that one. I don't think have got there yet but will know when I do.

Most of you don't believe in G0d in the religious sense, so wouldn't you believe that we CHOOSE our purpose? So can't we change it at any time?

But in my belief I do believe in the religious G0d, however I believe He is equal to us in participation and decision making (not power or value), and we can choose to change our purpose just as much as He can. Hope you understand :D

I think that IS my purpose actually...to be open to other's views and change my perspective on things ( but please don't try to manipulate me cuz I'm impressionable and sensitive :( ), which tends to be hard for me cuz I am very stubborn lol :D And to learn to love myself although I have been conditioned to hate myself :)

That's an interesting thought - that we can change our "purpose". It might shift naturally, as one lesson is learned, and our soul grows. I wonder if a soul ever says, "Well, I learned what I came here for. Time to pack up my tent, and move on!"

I agree completely that purposes shift naturally :) And yeah my Orthodox teacher told me she heard people die young because they were spiritually evolved enough to not need to live anymore, and she told me my dad was probably an advanced soul and perfect in the eyes of G0d. :D

I have a theory FWIW that there can be a point in peoples lives where they've learnt all they can learn/done all they can do in their present life circumstances and have two choices at that point - either move on to a "new life" elsewhere (eg new country/new lifestyle or similar) or get sick and die. My theory including that if someone or something is "holding onto" them and making them stay put in the circumstances they are in that it will be the "get sick and die" option that will be taken.

Maybe it's just me - but I'm in exactly that position right now where I honestly feel there's little left to learn if I just carry on with the "same old same old" for the 25-30 years I estimate I have left. I have a mother trying everything she can to keep me stuck in "same old same old" (as I currently live near her) and I realised that, if I did what she wanted and stayed here living the same life/in the same area as I am that I wouldn't be able to "grow" any more and be "me" and I could see the signs of a couple of "permanent" type illnesses starting to show up and realised that was because I didn't see any point in continuing with the rest of this life and would probably take the "commit slow suicide by just getting more and more ill" route.

It will be a shock to the system to move to a new country/have to get a new house together/explore a new area/make new friends/learn Welsh (as its "welsh" Wales I am going to)...but I can feel my health improving already at the thought and think I might just find those looming illnesses vanish (though I'm currently in the nerve-racking sell my current house/buy one over there phase).

So, sometimes I think people do have to resist other peoples attempts to cling onto them/hold them back or they will spiral into illness because they have been "trapped". As regards my mother - I suspect she was also in the "same old same old" mode and I think it might be doing her good that she will have some new lessons to learn (ie about independence) that she wouldn't otherwise learn.

I suspect you are right about your mother, Ceridwen. It will be much healthier for both of you when your new life starts. I'm sorry you are still involved in trying to sell your house. The energy in some places is "sticky", and things seem to conspire to keep us from moving on. I once had a pipe break when my house was in Escrow. It flooded the downstairs, and I had to repair everything, and find a new buyer. Incidentally, I did find a new life purpose after moving, and felt that I would get sick and die if I stayed where I was. That was over eight years ago, and I am in "blooming" health, but I still feel that place would have been the end of me!

Perhaps our reason for being is hidden from us forever. It could be that we don't accomplish anything significant we know of. It could be as simple as having a child who is the one that really matters. Our contribution may have been bringing them here.

Sorry if I burst any bubbles there but that was my excuse for not accomplishing spectacular in my life. LMAO

I believe we can find our purposes in life, and I don't think anyone comes here without one. While we may not achieve our planned goals, that doesn't mean they weren't there...Ceridwen...I believe your increased health and mental outlook is a direct result of allowing your future to rest in a different direction than your current "same old, same old".

I too, am involved in just such a change in life direction...not that it was unplanned, but rather it takes a great deal of effort to effect the changes necessary to live that future path; to break the old familiar and relatively comfortable habits, and to focus on creating a new way of life. I feel fortunate in knowing the alterations were planned by me with the assistance and constant reminders of guidance...and to know that guidance is always there to provide support and direction.

We must all have shared purposes, like love and acceptingness...but some of them have specific mini-missions for each person.

Well, undoubtedly, we don't have "large" life purposes. Mine is quite small, and relates only to me, but I will still call life "a good ride" if I accomplish it. We could be here solely to produce a gene pool and environment for a child, and I think that's the highest purpose of all.

I gather it takes a lot longer for us to buy/sell houses in Britain than it does in America. In this country 3 months from start to finish is very standard and I estimate I am probably about 6 weeks from moving to my new house currently (all being well and crossed fingers). So things are going relatively smoothly by our standards - as far as I can make out.

I am reassured to hear that you think my theory might well be the case, as you have found this yourself.

One thing I have certainly noticed is that various "bits and bobs" seem to be going wrong with my current house at more frequent intervals since I decided to sell it. If it were a person I'd swear I'd hurt its feelingsLOL

and its feeling "rejected".

It is indeed a question of breaking those old familiar habits indeed (particularly as one gets a bit older and it does feel like it takes more effort to motivate oneself to get out of the rut we have probably created for ourselves).

I think that, when we are on the right track, then maybe we get "hints of guidance" to help indicate this and I have had a few things happen that seem to indicate this. There was a positively surreal experience regarding a conversation that I had with the vendor of house-to-be and I realised afterwards that "I have had this exact conversation before - but there is no way I could have done". That was a real deja vu moment. I've also found myself researching particular aspects of things that have turned out to relate to the particular house I am buying as well and that felt a bit "odd" too. I think the most surreal moment was when I was on holiday in my new location checking it out and househunting there that, though I hadn't offered on a house at that time, I was standing there outside a particular solicitors office (out of the several possible local solicitors my vendor could have chosen) and "knowing" that this would be the particular solicitor my vendor would choose to use and sussing them out in accordance with "knowing" they would be.

You really made me smile, Ceridwen. My current house made me feel for a long time that it belonged to the previous owners. They lived here about 16 years, and were the original purchasers. It was very "dowdy" when I got my hands on it. Nothing I did to it ever seemed to "take", like it was resisting my efforts. If I had something fixed it broke again, the landscaping died, etc. My daughter said that it was because the house knew I didn't like it! I think she was right - the house and I had a talk, and things are okay now. Houses do seem to have their own energy. Have you heard the old notion that you should throw away your broom, and buy a new one when you move? I would, if I were you! Sorry, I was probably a "Hedgewitch" in one of my PLs!

I've heard of that belief! I actually did it, but it was because my old one was pretty much toast. I asked my husband and he said his grandmother had taught him that one, even though after coming to America she got into one house and stayed there for the rest of her life. There might be something to it because the last few families that lived here did nothing but fight, fight, fight. The neighbors said that since we moved in the whole place has seemed quieter and "happier". Maybe they didn't get a new broom? ;)

LOL

LOLLOLLOL

Hmmm....maybe I'd better keep my eyes out for a new broom then...."A new broom sweeps clean" might have more meanings than I thought it did...

I met the last owners of this house in the course of purchasing it and instantly decided it was a case of Mr Nasty and Mrs Downtrodden and that's exactly how it turned out to be in the event. I realised Mr Nasty was the sort to want all his own way with everyone and "try everything on" and he was indeed. So the house came with non too good "energies" in that respect and maybe that helps explain some of the lodger problems and health problems I had in first few years here. Subsequent to that, I read about doing energetic cleansing on houses and decided to have a go at doing that on this current one and I think it has possibly helped.

I will certainly do that on my next house. I don't think it was an unhappy house and previous owner obviously liked her garden (if of a very different style to mine - so changes coming up there). I know the previous owner had some sort of chronic illness at the time she left (ie died), as its evident a carer had been coming in regularly and there are a couple of grab bars I will need to remove. I don't wish to think any "illness vibrations" might be hanging around - so, if only for that reason, I feel it might be wise to give the house a good "energetic" cleansing as soon as I can after moving in. That will be fun (or not...) co-ordinating that in with the hordes of workmen I'll have coming in doing various urgent jobs on the place. Better make sure said workmen don't spot me going round lighting candles/throwing salt around/banging a drum/etc hadn't I?LOL

Don't want word to go around that "It looks as if a loony has moved in over there"

Hmmm...now pondering the concept of "having a talk" with my new house. Thinks: "Hello house...I'm your new owner. I'm going to be making loads of changes round here, but you'll be a lot better when I've finished........"

I did similar to you Ceridwen a number of years ago. Sort of the opposite way round though. A number of years living away to avoid my mother, I needed to take charge of my own life when I finally returned.

It takes a number of years to finally get there but you do. I think the main thing is following your inuition, doing what is right for you. Just learning to live your own life, not someone elses can be a purpose.

Fingers crossed for your sale & good luck.

Is it possible to have more than one life purpose?

Have sort of found through my life as you experience one thing it leads to another.

Does this lead to one main eventual purpose. Or is each bit as important?

This may be abit vague but say you've chosen to be a nurse, that could be your purpose but then say you choose to do charity work overseas or raise a family, has that purpose led to another equal purpose?

Interested in views on this.

I have a particular friend (of a very different "religious persuasion" to me - ie what I would call a "fundamentalist Christian") who would say it does.

She disagrees (errrm...rather strongly...) with the whole concept of reincarnation, but does believe that each thing is a "step along the way" to wherever one is eventually going and I've certainly heard her expounding this as a concept using the life of one of her sons as a case in point. When I said it had been a shame that it had taken him a while to "find his way" and previous jobs had been "less than worthy of him" - she came straight back with saying "Ah...but this caused him to learn this and then it led to that and so on from there to where he is at at present". So she would certainly say that each thing for him had been a "step along the way".

Maybe that's how it is...maybe she's right....

Indeed! And when I haven't moved in the direction of my "right track", I have suffered the consequences which have provided often dramatic results and very effective redirection!
