Knowing what you looked like in a previous life?

Yesterday while doing some past-life research I came across a picture of a little girl who reminded me of how I looked in a previous life, Lisbet's life to be specific. I often find pictures this way, and it got me round to thinking, and I soon realized that I've always 'known' what Lisbet looked like at every age of her life, right back to when she was an infant and probably before that when she would have been too young to even remember. I don't find any of this unusual because in my present life for example I still have the memory of how I (Chris) have looked like while growing up.

I've also seen my past-life reflection in a mirror, but I already knew what I looked like before that experience, I just always......knew. So I'm wondering how many of you just instinctively knew what you looked like in a past life, or whether you didn't know that information until you saw your own reflection, or saw yourself in third person during a meditation or regression? and also how it made you feel to see what you looked like if you were seeing yourself for the first time? - :)

Funny you brought this up Chris.. I recently went to look for a new avatar. I knew, I mean I knew on a soul level that I wanted a picture of a ballet dancer, a male one. This felt a bit sneaky? could I call it as I am now female but I particurly wanted a male. I put off the thought as I had really liked my older avatar alot , and I was in a lazy mood. A week later I had not given it alot of thought but again I decided to try and connect to the feelings I was having.

During this week I had resolved some more inner feelings about family and then it hit me that the ballet dancer should be a male because of my past life as a want to be male dancer.. It is funny eh how I do tend to temporarily forget these past lives.

I was unable to find a picture that appealed to me . As I thought about it I realised I particularly wanted the picture not to have any discernible facial characteristics.. I asked Ailish for a website of ballet pics and she gave me this one. It was perfect ,, almost too perfect as it does not show the face. I kind of felt oh dear this is revealing something deep down I really am afraid of.

But I have not wanted to start to think , why?? Why am I not wanting to have a face showing. I think it is because I have not wanted to see my facial features in my past lives and that this in itself is past life related.. I kind of think I know , as one life ties in alot with this shame.. Yet I do need to return to this life in order to bring up those feelings in order to truly face it {LOL} and let go the painful feelings around it.. I kind of thought I had no more fears to face. Alas more work to do. :)

So thanks Chris.. for reminding me I do need to take this time to have a look at this fear.. Aint this forum with all of you here to support me grand !!!!> :D

Ah ---I am starting to get that anxious feeling of "Oh dear do I really want to have a look at that experience? " But as before I must trust I will feel better after..

I don't remember what I looked like in any past lives... I am rather new to the idea of them. But I have definitely had the feeling of surprise at seeing my own face in the mirror. Many times when I have looked in the mirror I have expected to see someone else. I don't know what I thought I would look like, but I definitely remember the surprise of it. It doesn't happen every time, just on occasion.

For me it's a mixture of things. When I remembered dying as a jungle boy, I first saw myself briefly as I "popped" out of my body and then I saw my older brother, who looked pretty much just like me.

The rest I just kind of have a sense of, like if I have long hair, or what race I am, skin color etc. Some I don't even get a sense of at all, beyond gender.

I did a regression to that fear of seeing my face. Here is what I experienced.

I was taken to my very last life in late 1944 where I was born to a Jewish woman who was in the concentration camp Auschwitz. A german guard found us and he took me and threw me against a cement/ brick? wall. What I realised is that because one of my first expereinces was of such pain, I was lost in that darkness. It was like as such a young baby I had not developed a sense of seeing myself seperately.. I just could not / did not want to look upon my face . That is the best way I can describe it.

I tried to think of something I could tell myself to help me reintigrate that sense of loving myself. Also , loving the thought of baby. I believe now I had avoided getting married and having children of my own in this life because of the ramifications of that life. I had thought before , and maybe it is also partly because of a few other lives which I could sense some pattern forming. There was one life where I died during childbirth . IN that life I was very upset at death that my surviving baby would be taken care of by a woman I disliked [ who I have other karma with in this life and others as well} . I did not trust her mothering skills and I worried for my childs safety. Another life somewhere in Europe my child had an accidental drowning and my husband blamed me for it. And another as a native woman , just a loss of a child affected me for the rest of my life. All of these had the recurring theme of some sort of anxieties around the responsibility of having children .

I will meditate again and ask for the proper guidance to try and put aside this anger and not be so afraid. Any thoughts of guidance would be appreciated.

I've been thinking about this as well. A while ago I used www.yearbookyourself.com, you can upload one of your own pictures. It is then morphed into a period style photo even back as far as the rockin 50's.

It looks like they will not be up and running again until summer 2009, you can sign up with email ahead of time.

I have started trying to track down a 1961 photo of Jacqueline in the papers, I'm realy curios to see if there is a resemblance.

Is there a high percentage of resemblance between incarnations?

Wouldnt that be interesting to find a picture of yourself?? WOW... I think of Jenny Cockell's search where she did find a real picture of herself and she did have very similar characteristics.

I wonder that it may vary a bit , depending on if we want to come in contact with a person from our past. If we look somewhat similar we might be more attracted to them . This could be orchestrated from above in order for us to follow the path we are geared for.

The most vivid impression of the way I looked was during one of the recent self-regressions to the past life as pharmacy owner's daughter. I know I was blonde, when I'm a dark brunette now, and I was tall and rather stocky. In this life I'm short and quite petite, but whenever I think of that particular flashback I get a peculiar feeling of amazement at how different it feels. I can even vividly remember myself in that body, even feel somehow what it would be like in it.

In the past life that I have pretty much always recalled, I look quite similar to what I do today. I remember being in maybe the 4th or 5th grade in this lifetime, and looking into the mirror and envisioning someone else. She was def. from the 50's, and wore the pearls and had the hair-do that you would expect from that time frame. Then about 3-4 years ago I had a PL Dream of this woman and her life. It just verified everything I had ever wondered about & was quite interesting. I also have had 2 other PL Memories, but neither of them looked anything like me now. One as a Man, & another as a young black girl. ;0)

I see a photograph of myself everyday sitting on our piano. It was taken in 1895 with my wife. It's an odd feeling, a reality spark, to look at. Sometimes I actually think I remember what we were saying and doing as it was being taken. It has been said, even by those who do not know my story, that the resemblance is remarkable, even down to the little unusual patch of hair we/I, wore/wear under my lip.

One other time I had an incredible/intense point of recognition. It was a very hot summer day and I was driving my old truck down the road. I happened to look in the rear-view mirror and saw him looking back in the mirror. It was a wonderful feeling but quite sudden and quite definite. He/I was squinting from the sun and our faces were one in the same, yet his was as an old man in his 70s and I, at that time was in my 40s. It was one of those times when I confirmed in my head that reincarnation was a reality.

Hi all!

Great thread, Chris!

Tman - I can't imagine what I would feel like if I had a picture of Gwydion and me on my living room today - how strange and beautiful that is. :o

I have fleeting images of myself in previous lives. In one of them I was very similar to what I look like today. The others, not so much.

Something is peculiar, though - even if I have looked very different from my present self, I feel the same. I mean there is no difference in the way I perceived my body back then. Isn't it strange?

I don't really find that too strange... I think it goes along with how I sometimes forget what I currently look like. The way we feel is not always the way we appear.

Here's an excellent documentary where the guy has an almost 100% similarity (looks / build) with his past life.

Thanks for sharing that Chrissy -

The guy in the video is Jeff Keene and he's a member here in the forum (Stars3)

I've seen "other life faces" in the mirror, in dreams, and once in a "self-hypnosis" session. And I've seen what may be past life faces on others as well. Once I was sitting next to someone who would later become a significant other and I suddenly felt almost certain that when he turned his face I would see an eyepatch. I later found out that when he was little that eye was a lazy eye that required an operation to correct. But before I even knew that, or knew *him*, I "remembered" a friend with an eyepatch from a previous life. Then there's another guy I was involved with, and one time he sat with his hands held in a certain way and I flashed on him as a lady wearing a Victorian dress. It was only a split second out of all of the time that I knew him, but I think it may have been a sudden insight of what may have been one of his previous lives.

I hear that "facial architecture" is one of the things that doesn't really change much from life to life, regardless of one's race or sex. I wonder if there have been any studies done of this. I've seen pictures of a person that I may have been in a past life and objectively, some of them look like me and others don't. You would think with modern technology and more and more past lives having had access to photographs, we'd see more examples of people we can compare pictures of.

To be honest (though I'm a little embarressed about sharing this), in the self hypnosis "past life regression" exercise, the person I "saw" on a horse, though not dressed the same way, looked exactly like this guy: https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search...+images&ei=UTF-8&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs-004

... even though that was long before I knew anything about the person that image depicts ... I'd always associated him with the war of 1812 ...

I think those "superimposed images" are a very interesting phenomenon. I've seen them, too, but not very often.

About facial architecture: I think I've had the kind of longish face I have now quite often in PL's, too, but I don't know if it's been like that everytime. It's all relative, anyway. :)

I was once in a group designed to put us all back into a past lfe. I was to go back to 5 years of age...give my name and tell what my father did. I did all that and then he quickly moved me to a special day in my 17th year. I said "It's my Birthday" I ws coming down the stairway in a lovely dark green velvet dress that came to the floor. I could see across from the bottom of the stair a entry way and a a wide arched doorway into a big parlor or ballroom. People were dancing and some men were in uniform....I think gray...

next to the doorway I could see a very large mirror and part of my mind wanted to hurry down so I could look into the mirror to see my face. Before I could do that....the gentleman in charge of the group moved us on to another age....It was VERY disappointing...

Whe my friend Joanie saw me in her past life regression as a man working with herbs....I never thought to ask her what I looked like or how she knew it was me......drat!!

I had a dream but I was just leaving my body and couldnt see my face. Or the person next to me, but I knew that we were not the same ages, nor were we looking the same. Feeling..

Interesting subject, Chris!

when I was in denial of one life, I used to get sick whenever I would see a picture that reminded me of that life/who I was. Not that I was repulsive looking, or even that repulsive of a person, just that remembering who I was/what I looked like and how people viewed me is upsetting.

I also have seen memories/dreams of how I looked in my last life and these make me sad because I was so beautiful (well, I'm jealous and upset that I don't look like that now! ;) ) and yet wasted myself to death with a "hard-knock life".

These are extreme emotional reactions to seeing my old self, but I am never surprised at how I used to look, though the sensation of seeing the real thing or real memory can be overwhelming.

Hi Chris

In my experience, I think that any physical resemblance to our past lives is merely coincidence, unless you have been born in the same family again.

often, we are born in different families with different genes.

Some times we are Asians , Caucasians or a mix of many others.

What remains is part of our personalities.

there is more connection between our past lives personalities with the present one that we are able to recognize.

Ahuicyani,

I partially agree with you. For the most part, I think our physical appearance is governed more by the genes of our biological parents than it is by the soul that inhabits our body. I base this on some personal observations. When I was in my 20s, I got a call from my mother who was almost frantic with excitement. She has always been a fanatic about the Romanovs and I think has read every book there is about them. In any event at this time in my 20s, she had was reading yet another book about them and in it there was a photograph of Nicholas II in his early 20s before he grew the full beard. She told me that it looked just like me. She even said that she was sure that I was Nicholas reincarnated. I doubted this but after my father (who was a very skeptical man) confirmed the likeness, I had her send me the photo. When I got it, I was amazed. This was not a resemblance, it was identical. I even showed the photograph to all of my friends, without telling them who it was, and they all asked not “who is it?” but rather where I “had gotten the costume?” I then looked at latter photographs and despite the full beard covering his face, the resemblance is there.

Let me be very clear, I was not Nicholas II. I have good memories of who I was during the early part of the 20th Century and I was not Tzar of Russia. In my regressions I have seen myself in the 1920s and 30s as a man in my 20s and 30s. I could not therefore have been Nicholas. I have also never had a particular connection with Russian history of that period. This is despite the fact that due to my mother it was almost as if I grew up with the Romanovs (we had pets named, Anastasia, Tatiana, Olga (after his daughters). I have often wondered however, if my mother had a connection with that period and if that connection caused the physical resemblance. I know that is sort of out there, but it has crossed my mind.

All of that having been said, there are some reports by other people that make me think that sometimes physical looks may cross over from one life to the next. I guess my basic thoughts are that most of the time resemblance is as you say a coincidence, but there are some cases where it is more than that.

:)

I believe that our genes have an important part to play in our appearance.

From my own experience, however, there seem to be other factors - things that do carry over from one life to another. I have seen myself in several lives, and I must say that in some of those I was completely different from what I look like now and from what I have looked like before. But in most of them - I can clearly see the resemblance.

I think it's something that goes a little beyond race, hair colour and size - it's a kind of underlying strutcture, a pattern - added to facial expressions that greatly mould our traits.

There are also some people that have been with me throughout the course of many lives. Two people in particular still bear, today, an amazing resemblance to what they used to look like before. Some things change, of course - but the SOUL in their faces is the same. I see how they have changed, and I see what has remained.

As I write I am thinking about the way we perceive our appearance and that of others. Perhaps similarities and differences should not be seen only as being carried across or not, but also as being perceived by others or not....

I wonder if I'm making sense to anyone... :D

WA Heart ==Are you saying it is more in the way we percieve each other and if we want to be attracted that dictates how we may chose a body type to be born into ??

In this life I am quite sure I had a shift made in my " direction" away from some of those who before I was wanting/ looking to be around. This seems to have been reflected in the body type pattern .

So for some people I can see the resemblance--- in being fair haired . Also similarities in their body type between them.. One man and another from different cities who I was attracted to looked similar. THe one had been a past life mother , the other a father/brother/ husband. BOth I had no problems fantasizing about. And both of these men were from the same cultural community and neither looked like the norm in their community.

...

This fair haired attraction / dark skinned tension was a definite sign of karma at work .

There are a few men of whom I have had long standing crushes on who stand out as having been focal characters in my karma. I beleive in my soul I expected them to be fair skinned in order for us to be attracted to each other and thus make a point of coming together.

Now I can see how I have been with people who had dark complexions in this life to break me out of certain patterns. The fair skinned people were the comfy secure, models for me because of what happened in my last life .. I see that that time in the holocaust where the dark complexioned man named Mengele , lead me to make a change . He represented the dark complexioned and thus represented a shift in my perception of fair skinned type I am usually drawn to.

. I see that the dark complexioned were the tension points in my personality that propel me to make changes.

Not that knowing the fair skinned people do not help me make changes but it is like I am really letting go the others/ or ????==== mmmm??? yes they are letting me go and I am being " forced " to let them go ..

There was also another example of a woman who I had been married to in a carpenter life.

This life she was rather dark contrary to her being very blonde and fair in that past life.We did have alot of tension this life which forced me to make some changes in my dysfunctional patterns. .

W.A. Heart-- I agree so much with what you said! you made perfect sense. :)

for me, I find it easy to recognize myself and the similar traits I've had in the last few lives at least; usually, I recognize similar traits in the way my eyes look, face, shape of hands/feet, more specific tiny details rather than large similarities (though I do quite look like I did two lives ago).

and then again, I wonder if I only think that I look like I did somewhat because that's who I was (meaning, am I really objective about the similarities?) :)

anyways, interesting reading everyone's responses!

Hi Alexnovo

Now that I read your post and the others, it makes me wonder about that possibility.

I have memories from many of my past lives, in different places and cultures, from Asia, Europe and America.

In my past life I was born in Europe, and looked like any white European.

But in my present life, I was born in an multi-racial family, my genes are a mixture of all the races I have been in the past.

I Wonder if that means something.q6gif

Chris,

When I had the dream as a child about dying in a sword fight, the man I became was somewhat obese, with short (well fairly short), curly, brown hair and pale skin. I gathered this just from the dream.

During the ideas I got when I asked myself who I used to be, mentioned elsewhere on the boards, I saw myself. I was asian, and my face was oval, and my skin had a lot of yellow tones, and it wasn't really dark, but I did have somewhat of a tan skin tone. I certainly wasn't pale. I was fairly slim. And female.

Our appearance basically remains the same from our first incarnation to the last. It couldn't be more true when they say that the eyes are the windows to the soul. The gaze in our eyes is eternal. The shape of our face, the nose, the mouth, etc. with subtle variations. Also our mannerisms are similar, like our voice or the way we walk.

Hi Solysombra and welcome to the forum.

I have seen so many people that had no legs or eyes or were disfigured that I have decided that there are no rules about what we carry over from one lifetime to another - we get what we get. Being considered unattractive in one lifetime may get us a break in another so that we are counted as among the beautiful people.

Hi Solysombra and welcome to the forum.

I suspect that in a way both you and Stardis are right. I tend to believe that most of the time physical appearance has more to do with the biology of the body than it does with the soul. However, I think the way we appear often is more complex than just the material aspects of ours bones and skin. We give off an aura that is just as powerful in shaping the way other perceive us. I think that this effect is strongest in the eyes, the smile, and the facial expressions but is also present in many other things. I have met people who seemed to glow, not literally but as in the phrase “she can light up a room.” I have also met people who gave off a serious and even sinister feeling. These attributes, I believe come not from the physical body, but rather from the soul. I also think that when we say someone is beautiful or ugly or whatever, we are basing that judgment just as much on the aura as we are the physical body.

I will also say that about what I said above, I believe it applies to most of us. There are cases when I believe a soul does come back into a body with strikingly similar physical characteristics to those they had in a prior incarnation. Whether this has to do with being born into the same family or a choice of the soul or something else, I really do not know, but I suspect there are many reasons for it that I do not understand.

In my past life in Wales, which is the past life I think I can mostly remember, I looked quite a lot like I do nowadays. My hair was still just as curly, but I think it was blonder in my Wales past life. I know that, because I've got this one recall of actually seeing my hair in old life, in braids that reached my hips - really similar to the way my hair is today - resting against some grayish dress I was wearing, with an apron that was white, with pencil-thin red stripes.
