Is it real?

I have some memories from my past life. But here's the deal-I don't know how to be sure it's not made up.
How to know that?

Hi Irina, welcome to the forum :)

Is it real? That is the big question, and one which nobody can answer with 100% certainty. I think we all experience past life memories in our own way, and however 'real' they present themselves to us, not one of us can stand up and say "this is definately what happens to us after we die". If we could do that, then reincarnation would be a proven fact, and this forum would most likely not exist.

A lot of it comes down to faith. Personally, I can remember several past lives, and I am totally convinced that I have been here before. My memories place me back in time, in another body, in another place, and I'm there, reliving those moments with the same clarity as if I was actually there experiencing it right now, first hand.

I think one of the keys to believing is how these memories make you 'feel'. How do you experience your past life memories? Meditation? Dreams? Spontaneous? Do they leave you with a lingering emotion that can affect you for hours or even days after? And when you remember your past life, is it like an ordinary dream? Are all your senses heightened like smell, sight and sound are crystal clear? Do you have an inexplicable passion for a certain time period in history, or a famous historical figure? These are some of the signs that you might be experiencing a past life memory.

The best thing to do if you are that curious, is to start practicing meditation, and begin writing a journal of all your experiences. If this works for you, then slowly you'll begin to gather all the pieces of the puzzle, and hopefully things should fall into place. You might even find that 'clues' are all of a sudden ... mysteriously thrown into your path, as if the universe is willing you on to find out more. It really can be a fascinating and rewarding experience, and you've come to the right place to begin that journey :)

Hello Irina,

First of all, welcome to the past life forum! This is great place to start when looking to learn more about past lives; our book section & video archive are full of resources that can help you pursue the subject even further.

As for knowing if you memories are real or not, it's hard for anyone to say other then you yourself. ChrisR has already given you great advice. How are you remembering your past lives? What kind of emotional connection do you have? What time periods are you remembering? Asking yourself these kind of questions will help. Feel free to share any of your experiences (but only if you feel comfortable!)

Again, welcome to the forum! Look forward to seeing you around - :)

Welcome to the forum! Consistency in memories is another thing to look for, in my opinion. When they pop up (seemingly randomly), a flight of fancy will adjust itself to your mood or have small details that are off from event to event. I also look to see if a scene too closely imitates something I may have seen elsewhere. For example, one image that popped into my head seemed so familiar, but later retrospection identified it as copying, right down to the pose and setting, an image I had seen in a magazine. I do not feel that the magazine triggered any memory, only that at the time I thought it was a neat picture. However, a genuine memory will hit me full force. Even if it's just a fleeting moment, the depth of emotion is a key signature for me.

Thank you all.

Well, I saw the memories twice in dreams, a few times during meditation, once it popped while listening to an anthem (that I listened because of the memories) and sometimes I get feelings while looking at photos of certain..events.

Well , here's the deal. I've been impressed by that era for quite some time, so I'm just afraid that these "memories" could be my imagination, because I would like to know that I lived in that time.

Hi Irina

I can definitely relate to what you are saying. I have had some very vivid memories that there is no way I can fit into this life. Still, I've never had any hard evidence to go by that I couldn't have picked up from a movie for example. Having a conversation with a 3 year old where he flat out told me in plain English what he did back when he was grownup made me realize you can't just dismiss it as fantasy or an overactive imagination. To paraphrase one of my favourite lines in the Tao Te Ching:

The more you go in search of something

the less you understand.
