Is it infinite?

Do you think reincarnation is infinite? That we just keep going or do you think at a point there is an option to stop? Like maybe the 'soul' gets tired of living over and over, do we stop existing or do we continue on to an afterlife?

There are some theories on this. They don't all agree with each other, but there are some similarities. The Buddhists believe that eventually, when we reach a sufficient state of evolution or enlightenment, we can see through the veil of this existence. When we reach that level of mastery, then many go on to the 'next level', while some choose to stay on this plain to help others. Hinduism has a similar sort of idea, about rising up through levels of being.

What is infinite? The universe itself is not infinite... or is it? Does it also 'reincarnate' with an almighty big bang every so many billion years? Again, the Hindus and the Buddhists seem to be in agreement about this. Modern astrophysicists are beginning to think that they are right.

My theory is that you reincarnate until you break the cycle of Samsara and attain Moksha. In which case, you become enlightened.

Ive been told we only have a number of reincarnations but eveyrone seems to variate these numbers..
My personal opinion is that we do have a limit number of reincarnations but is not short, we must accomplsh things that will lead us to stop needing to reincarnate, but as if it were some kind of test we do have a limit, if we dont that progress by then, after X number of reincarnations, we dont evolve. If we do, we evolve for something better and stop reincarnating. I wonder if im making sense, but its just my opinion!

There are a lot of theories going around and people say all kind of things. I certainly don't know if there is a set number of incarnations that everyone is aloted (by whom/what? who/what enforces it?). But I doubt that things are as cut and dried as all that. Other things in nature are never very precise or predictable, so why would this be any different?

My view is that we are all just part of 'nature'. Yes, there are patterns. But, they are often fairly chaotic. I suspect reincarnation is much the same.

I have seen some indications of a set number of allocated incarnations in some Kabbalistic sources and also something a bit like this in some Rosicrucian writings, but have seen no indication of this in the research. It does appear that some "graduate" after reaching a certain point of development, but other than that--?? The path forward after "graduation" moves into religious and esoteric realms and ideas, though there is some indications of what comes next in Michael Newton's works.

I have no concrete reason to believe this (it's just belief), but my sense is that we may also drift in and out, perhaps taking "breaks" in the afterlife, or taking different forms in it. Perhaps we serve as protective spirits to the ones we loved in the most recent life, or we just rest in the afterlife, whatever such a rest entails. Although I'm not sure why one would choose to come back to our world - perhaps to join loved ones from other lives? To protect on a mortal level? I'm not sure. But I don't see it as necessarily being a linear cycle.

(Here's another question: Are there new souls, who haven't had any prior lives? I imagine it's more complicated than that.)

Hi LB,

I have heard of many things like you speak of in your first paragraph. I have a sense that there is much that goes on that is analogous to the way education works here in the material. (Though I would have to say that our ideas of education probably derive from the way it is planned and implemented by higher levels rather than vice-versa--likewise, the spiritual process seems to focus on the development of character/goodness rather than merely knowledge). Hence, I have a sense that the earlier levels and younger souls have a more preset course with less choice/freedom, whereas with time and maturation, greater and greater leeway exists for breaks, choices, practicums, work-study, etc. etc.

As to new souls being produced as an ongoing process, I'm just not sure. I don't have a philosophical or theological reason to believe in such (at present), but am not particularly adverse to the concept either. For one thing, there seem to be a lot of folks who act like they're "new" souls around, which begs the question. Likewise, some seem to be born as "old souls" and just seem to be wiser from the start. Michael Newton covers this topic (ongoing soul creation) and a variety of others related to your queries in his two books. You would probably find them interesting readings.

Is Newton's research, methodology, results, etc. unquestionable and infallible? I'm not prepared to say that, though he thinks his subjects are at such a deep level of hypnosis that they cannot lie (though sometimes they will not speak). Overall, I'm inclined to give his writings a good deal of weight, while not counting them as absolutely accurate.

Cordially,

While I know I've lived many lives, I've also known a few people, two of them very close to me, that I'm sure had very few behind them. They were very handy with menial tasks, had done quite poorly in school, and were only a couple of steps away from being illiterate. I believe they were very young souls. One was my sister, another was a man that I'd loved. He only knew how to sign a check, but left the writing of it to others. They both had other characteristics that put them at a base level of evolution. One of my other sisters, next to this one, had an IQ around 160.

Over my lifetime I've come to believe that we're all going toward a goal of becoming - I'm not sure what the term would be - perfect? By living through all of the conditions of living, which in one lifetime is a very small number, we will eventually reach a time when all the negative things are gone from us, and instead of hating, destroying, and all the rest of life's negativities, we become highly educated and find the way to banish all diseases, and death itself, since we'll no longer have need of it. We'll nurture our planet and all that's on and in it, and maybe have another, perfect, planet to live on since there will always be new souls climbing that ladder on this one, and possibly other planets in the universe.

I'm sure I don't fit in with the majority of people here because I don't read the books then pick and choose what appeals to me. I've never read anything but history and historical fiction, Science Fiction and Fantasy. I've mentioned before that I've never given any thought over the years about reincarnation. It was only a few years ago that what I've written here was one day in my mind. Even then I'd only given it a cursory run through, but it all makes perfect sense to me.

I'm of the opinion that we are all on different levels of advancement, and no two people agree on most things, so we each will eventually come to the conclusion of what feels right to us, and I respect everyone's beliefs.

On the topic of new souls, if we look at the numbers of people on the planet now, as compared to say 1800, there has to be some answer to the difference in numbers. I think your second paragraph points this out.

Everyone has this position that every incarnation has a problem of some sort. I'm actually hoping to reincarnate just to live again because i fancy the idea of living another life after death... you know, like a video game (LOL bad analogy). I want to be a child again and experience another life.

EDITED TO ADD:
I've too been wondering if the reincarnation cycle is infinite just before i decided to hop online and i just so happen to find this thread. How nice! To actually answer the OP question, I think there MAY come a point where the reincarnation cycle will end, maybe by "enlightenment" or some sort or possibly by the soul's own personal decision, but i think it's possible. But i, personally, don't want to stop and keep coming back and reincarnation... especially after this current life.

I can report about what I have read about this question, but like everyone else, I don't really know.

I have read authors claiming as few as a couple of dozen lifetimes as being "average" while one religion embracing reincarnation states the number in the seven-hundreds. Still others claim that the number of lifetimes is in the thousands.

As for the thought that increased population indicating the need for "new" souls, that is not necessary.Earth is not necessarily the only place to experience the physical, and, just like a Mall during the holiday season, there may be times when a visit is preferred. Another reason for a higher population as expressed in some of Delores Cannon's subjects transcripts is that souls can experience multiple incarnations at the same time - that sounds strange to me, but she has done many thousands of regressions.

Another thing that I read somewhere that seemed strange to me was that some souls may never incarnate, they prefer to, or only need to, get their "learning" from the non-physical "schooling" - of course we would never hear much about that on this physical side.

Maybe the increased population is because we all wanted/needed to experience our current rush-to-destruction that we are experiencing right now!

I sometimes wonder about that! But which is cause and which is effect?

I don't believe in old souls and new souls, and I even don't believe that we need to reach 'perfection'. As a soul we are already 'perfect', and the perfections and imperfections we experience in our character are just a choice. IQ is nothing, I mean, it is a way of communicating with your surrounding world.
I have a friend who is absolutely convinced about her life to be the first life ever on this Earth. She is not retarded or simple, just a 'normal' intelligent woman.

souls can experience multiple incarnations at the same time
I do believe this to be possible.
