I really think past life regression could help cure OCD...

This topic is very interesting indeed. I have OCD and Tourettes syndrome. To my understanding OCD and Tourettes kind of go hand in hand.

The way I try to regulate the OCD is by stopping and telling myself that it won't make a difference if I do or don't do the OCD thing of the moment. Like having to walk back the same way I went. For example If I walk from point A to B to c then D, I tell myself I can just go back from point D to A and nothing will happen. Sometimes it doesn't work though.

The thing that I wonder about is why do people with tourettes do some of the things they do like yelling out obscenities, hitting them selves and so on. I do have facial tics and some verbal tics as well.

This is going to sound bad but I always referred to it as "the devils puppet". It makes no sense how a neurological disorder can make a person do those things.

It's almost like a self destruction thing.

Sorry to get of the OCD track but it is kind of related.

Have you ever tried doing a regression? Regressions are very good for OCD. It worked for me. Even a self-hypnosis regression will work.

I have really bad OCD. It's better than it was when I was a kid though, but still not perfect. Mostly now it deals with intrusive thoughts. More times than I can count a day I imagine violently murdering or raping people and it is very, very difficult to control these thoughts. Especially when I imagine them about children, that's the worse for me.

When I was younger, I was deathly afraid of germs. I washed my hands constantly and I cried once when we had a guest over who left the bathroom without cleaning his own hands. I developed rituals of repetition, for fear that someone close to would die otherwise. I prayed constantly. Anything touched with my left hand had to be touched with my right. And it's not unusual for me to check locks several times, and even test the door to make sure the locks are working.

But I'm not certain if OCD and reincarnation are related. My mom has OCD too, so I think it's just something that's inherited. It's a horrible thing though, and I think more people should know what it means. Too many out there make little quips about having it because their very organized or clean, but to those of us who actually have it, it can make you want to end your own life. It's no laughing matter.

YES, IT IS PL RELATED. Roger Woolger talks about this in one of his seminars. I'm going to send you a PM.

I understand something of what it's like, Red Night. I had a touch of it when I was younger. I did the lock- checking thing, and at 11, had a strange ritual where I had to leap into bed without touching the edge. If I thought I had, I had to get out and jump in all over again. This bewildered my parents. I got control of it years ago, but it certainly isn't something to joke about. My oldest daughter had the hand washing addiction. I have seen her wash them for twenty minutes at a time. She, too, conquered OCD as she got older. Whether that's possible must have something to do with severity, but a PL connection is certainly worth exploring. It's so comforting to me that we are all friends here, and can discuss what bothers us openly. There's hope in that for all of us.

I come from a family with a tendency towards OCD. I have it to a certain extent, as does my sister. Mine only got bad as a result of stress and anxiety, my sister only got it after learning about germs in school. So for the record OCD IS NOT ALWAYS RELATED TO A PL. In some people it might be, but to use PL as a blanket catch-all for EVERYONE with OCD is wrong, and to be honest, a little insulting. From my experience, OCD is mostly a symptom of anxiety, and anxiety is something that has a tendency to run in families, ie, it is genetic (which is why in similar situations some people will cope, whilst others will find it difficult). I’m not saying PLR wouldn't cure some people, it probably would, but as with many things, we have to look through THIS LIFE before jumping on the ‘it was a PL’ bandwagon. PLs are important, yes, but they’re not the ‘magic’ quick-fix that some seem to think they are.

You're right, Helz. We do need to consider the influences that affect us from the current life as well. I think there is a genetic basis for OCD, but there are no easy answers. We should never generalize about conditions like this, but there is no reason not to look for help where ever we can. :)

Agreed. It's most important to search for clues in our present lives, and than our past.

There's been a history of abuse in my family; physical and sexual. A lot of my unwanted thoughts probably take root there.

And I didn't develop the the hand washing thing until after I learned about germs.

But frankly, I have no idea where the "rituals" came from.

And then again, maybe this life triggered a lot of past life anxieties. I wouldn't doubt that I've been in abusive situations before, and I'm positive we've all lived more than one life in filthy, disease ridden places.

It's a response to anxiety for some people (I have an in-law who developed it to a level where he can barely function in society after his father was murdered when he was a child) and I agree with helz_belz that it's important that present life problems be looked at first. Some people have the ability to form the patterns in the brain required for it easier than other people do.

I completely agree that we need to look at present causes first :)

I had OCD when I was a kid too BriarRose...I used to straighten and count but I overcame the tendencies myself :) My grandmother had OCD too, though, so it was probably genetic. It could have been in some way related to a sense of needing to keep things together stemming from a past life...but I am not totally sure. Maybe it was a mix of both.
