Hearing things before falling asleep

I've had this happen a few times, where just before falling asleep I will hear very clearly a voice or a sound. A few weeks ago I clearly heard seagulls, so clearly I actually wondered why birds were still up so late, before realising the sounds were in my head, whereupon the sound localised in my left ear and faded away, almost leaving an echo behind. Once last year I clearly heard a young male voice call out 'I don't want to die Sophia' and last night a deep male voice said 'maevum' a couple of times in my right ear.

So far I haven't connected any of these voices to any PLs that I am aware of. Has anyone else had experiences with these kind of things? I would love to hear everyone else's experiences :)

Yes, Helz, I have heard things like that, but they were more personally directed than yours. I've been told to help people in my life, who turned out to need it. What you heard almost sounds like picking up radio interference, or eavesdropping on some other person's dreams, or thoughts. I am not qualified to discuss the nature of time, but could you be picking up random fragments from the past? Is time a river, or a loop? Could there be "bleed through"? I don't know, but the possibilities are fascinating.

Thank you BriarRose, glad to know its not just me! :)

Yes, these felt very like a 'bleed through' from another time, a bit like picking up bits of a BBC radio play :D Time is such a strange concept, it's odd, I can just about get my head around String Theory, but Time is still too confusing for me! I've always had the feeling that time is an illusion that we are subject to only in the physical realm, and that the soul is 'outside' time in some way. Its that strange feeling I get in old places, that the only thing separating us from the people who built/painted/lived there is Time, they could have been gone 5 minutes or 5 thousand years, but they are still there, doing their things in 'their' time. So maybe time is a river, but we only experience it while we're in it?

Anyway, with regard the voices and sounds, 'bleed through' from PLs seems like a good possibility. The young lad calling for Sophia definitely felt related to my Great War life somehow, almost got the impression of a military hospital, but I've got no idea about 'Maevum', it just felt much older than any PL impressions I've had so far. Maybe in certain brainwave states the brain can 'dip into' the flow of Time, or at least lower the barriers to the subconscious allowing sense memories to come to the surface, like during meditation?

OK, now I need a cup of tea and a nice sit down in a darkened room to get my head round all that!

Is the word "Maevum" Latin? I should have googled it. I think the altered state that a person enters before sleep allows all sorts of perceptions to seep through. I get the same feeling you do about all time coexisting simultaneously. I feel that in old places, but also in my "hometown". When I walk down the street there, I can almost feel my fifteen year old self coming toward me, and that I might be able to "touch" her, or caution her about decisions she's about to make. I think the nature of time is one of the biggest puzzles we still have to solve, but like you, I can barely wrap my mind around string theory. If you are having a cup of tea, shall I pour? ;)

I read an article in New Scientist a couple of years ago that said some anomalous results from a physics experiment was suggestive of a Holographic Universe, i.e. that the whole of the Universe is just a holographic projection from the edge of existence. It then went on to suggest that if it was true, all kinds of weird time-related things might be possible. Maybe if that is right, all time can exist simultaneously?

I looked up maevum, I thought Latin too. All I could find was the female name 'Maeve', similar but not quite what I heard. Maybe the original ancient Latin was Maevum rather than Maeve?

Yes, you can pour, thank you! Tea, truly 'the cup that cheers'! :)

I learned from doing ancestry research that the Catholic church used the Latin version of names in baptismal records, etc. I think this happened as late as the 19th century. I have read the same "holographic" universe hypotheses that you have Helz, and although I am qualified to comment neither as a scientist or a theologian, I see a lot of merit in the idea. All of creation could be a projection from the mind of "God". I also am attracted to the "celestial computer program" idea, which I suppose is related. I am ready for my second cup of tea, how about you? coffee

Yes, I've had things like this happen to me. Not only when falling asleep, but also when washing dishes or doing something boring like counting.

In my opinion, it sounds like you entered the bardo or "in between" state, and so, were not really hearing with your ears. In Bardo, communication is telepathic and instantaneous. Often, concepts are expressed symbolically (seagulls?) or using archaic language (mauvum?) What I have heard in Bardo doesn't always make much sense to me in my waking state, but somehow my soul understands, and that's what counts.

Here's an example: Once as a young child I had a high fever. I heard several people near my ceiling discussing me and my illness, but when I tried explaining what I had overheard to my mom, all I could remember was the word "log". Makes no sense, right? So as I got older I chalked it up to hallucinations brought on by the high fever. But then, years later I saw a Russian fortune telling card where the picture for one's state of health was firewood.

Another thing to consider, even though it was nighttime where you were, somewhere in the world, seagulls really were crying. There is no boundary to this type of communication.

I've heard things, too, mostly when I'm stressed out or something though. They're very clearly spoken, but... nonsensical? One example I remember was "D-- M---- has just been killed in a car accident." DM is a friend, and twenty five years later he's still around, alive and well.

Thank you Blue Heart and Sister Grey for your insights. The seagulls could easily have been me just picking up on them somewhere else in the world. What was odd about the 'maevum' was that I hard it once but was so far into sleep I thought 'oh no, I missed it!' and the voice said it again! Overhearing a Bardo-state conversation maybe?

Blue Heart, you're right in that it didn't sound like 'hearing' with my ears, it was more localised 'within' my ear if that makes sense?

Sister Grey, I've had similar things whilst stressed or anxious. It was something to do with the adrenalin causing nerve endings to be highly sensitive and they can fire-off in strange ways, often involving things that are likely to cause more stress and anxiety.

BriarRose, I hope the Univserse/'God' doesn't get bored of its holographic daydream anytime soon! ;)

I actually keep a notepad by my bed for this very reason, Helz! It happens quite frequently. I can never make much sense of it although it's always a clear sentence or a name, just as I'm relaxing and ready to sleep. It's always said in different voices, male and female, and different accents too, most unlike my own. Decidedly not my thoughts, but not external sounds either!

I heard someone (and I may have told you this) say "We defend in Thy name and glory" which I was so excited about, thinking it might be a regimental motto, but I couldn't find a reference anywhere. Usually it's random things, whole sentences, but ones that mean nothing to me. I used to hear band music too, no distinct tune, no vocals, just old-time radio music. Haven't heard that in a while!

Thanks so much for this thread, I'm enjoying reading other people's experiences very much!

Sometimes I hear explosions, and gun fire and feel like I've been shot in the head. Doesn't happen all the time, when it does I bout jump out of my skin!

That sounds like something that would happen to someone with military experience. Did you serve in this life time? Shortly after being discharged from the military, my ex-husband yelled "hit the deck", and threw us both to the ground when a car back-fired near-by.It seemed to have been a conditioned response. I don't know if other vets experience it, but it makes sense. You sound like a good candidate for trying self-regression, Rustic Boy.

sometimes the sound of explosions can be explained by Exploding Head Syndrome. It's nothing serious, I've had it myself - twice I have felt and heard a buzzing electricity go up my spine and 'out' of my left eye in a flash of white light and a physical shock or jolt. It scared the bananas out of me! For me though, these were symptoms of stress and not PL related. It might be an explanation for some of the noises you hear.

ChrisR, thanks for the link but I can't seem to make it work, it just keeps sending me to the 'reply to thread' page

I had the same problem with the link, Helz, but it sounds like an interesting thread. As for "exploding head syndrome", now I have a new horrible physical condition that I can get when I'm under stress! (pretty much all the time) Rustic Kid, does that feel like a possibility, or is what you are experiencing different?

Thank you Helz_belz for the link, it sounds like what I'm experiencing, which is strange. I didn't start having this happen until I began researching what I feel may be links to my past lives (possible ones)

BriarRose- Not in this lifetime, outside of ROTC...I feel and have had some dreams that point to having been in a military in quite a few possible lifetimes. One I did dream of being shot in the back of the head, which is where I usually hear and feel this thing.

I really don't like when it happens, as it gives me anxiety and I jump out of bed ready to go and then can't get back to sleep.

You "come out fighting", another thing I've heard from the wives of World War II veterans. Some were afraid to waken their husbands from a bad dream quickly, for fear of receiving bodily harm. This is just anecdotal, of course.

Something like that yes. Which is interesting because I have suspected I may have been there during WWII, because of my interests and I've dreamed of ruined cities and tanks and people being lined up, who were deserters. Which is possible for then.

I believe Helz, who's thread this is, had a possible life in WWI, and I know Argonne did. I think tanks were developed during WWI, but were more commonly used in WWII. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, WWII seems more probable for that dream. I have what I would call circumstantial evidence of a life where I served the Confederacy. Maybe we need to get a new military thread started. If you look at the "Archives" section under "Past Life Memories", you will find interesting threads to read about the subject in the meantime.

Fascinating helz belz...Thanks for sharing!

For me, I have never heard voices, but I have heard music. Revolutionary War fifes playing outside, monks chanting, Irish dance tunes, amongst other things. Sometimes I will stop what I am in the middle of doing, because I actually think someone has left a CD or car radio on somewhere nearby.

I am a musician in this life, and have been at least twice in the past that I know of, so music stands out to me in my memory.

Thank you ChrisR, will take a look at the thread it sounds most interesting! :)

BriarRose, don't worry about possibly experiencing it. Its scarey but nothing serious. I've had problems with an anxiety disorder for nigh on 8 years now, but only experienced it twice within one week when I was seriously anxious. Apparently it was something to do with adrenalin-ridden, very tired nerve cells mis-firing.

Rustic_Kid, it may be that learning about your PL caused some stress to the soul, which manifested itself with the exploding head syndrome, which was similar to what you experienced in that life? Kind of like when children are born with birth-marks that match up with PL wounds.

I believe I also had a life during war, the Great War (1914-1918), not WW2 like yourself. I haven't remembered anything battle-related yet, although I am very nervous around loud noises, and HATE sudden loud noises! the tank was developed during the Great War as a 'replacement' for the cavalry, which had no effective use in trench warfare. They also looked very different to tanks used in WW2.

Lady 2, that is fascinating to hear about the music you hear! Music must be such a strong thread running through your lives, I've heard that sometimes a profession (more than just an interest) can follow us through many lives :)

What did the tanks look like? American or German? The German's had the biggest and meanest tanks, but they broke down more. The American tanks were smaller and lighter, but in the end they outnumbered the Germans.

This happened to me last night as I was falling asleep. I kept hearing what sounded like something dropping in a plastic or wooden bucket. Then I got the simplest of memories; I was a girl playing outside with the classic cup-and-ball game. And that was it. I'd say it was sometimes in the 30s. After that (I'm not certain if this was my imagination or not) I was sitting in a bedroom and "my" sister had gotten mad at me and was accusing me of always trying to copy her and I started tearing up and she walked out of the room irritated, saying, "She's crying again!"

Our mother walked in and said something not particularly positive; I'm assuming she was just as irritated. Than our dad came in and tried to comfort me.

I found that last one rather interesting because it seems to slightly parallel my current life. I'm the youngest child and growing up I'd cry at the drop of a pin. The difference is that my dad was the one who'd get angry while my mom would try to make me feel better.

Maybe the same parents, only reversed?

It's a possibility, but I don't feel like there's many more likenesses than one being more affectionate than the other.

Interesting older thread, there's been some conversations lately on past life details being accessed easier in different stages of sleep, any one have any experiences like that?
