Does this sound like past life memories?

Hello! I found this forum through a google search. I've been wondering about this for years, and I decided to do a bit more research about it today.

I occasionally have sudden bursts of memories about a woman. I remember seeing her face in my mind once as a child. This seems to happen randomly, and not very often, but it's quite moving when it does happen. Most often, I remember seeing her with wavy brown hair, standing and looking at me, in a 1950's-style floral print dress. The memories are very simple, and mostly involve hugging her, dancing with her, hearing her laugh, or seeing her smile. I usually start to remember her when I see women with her hair style, or when I look at or wear very flowy, floral print dresses.

The memories of her make me feel sad. I have this feeling that she was very important to me, and that I feel very sad for leaving her. I feel like I need to talk to her and tell her that I love her. I've never met this woman, and have no idea what her name is or where she lives. I sometimes feel a longing to find her and go "home" to her.

These memories sometimes come along with other memories. I remember another person, who I feel like I may have been at some point. I remember that I was a young man, tall and muscular, bald, with a young-looking face and brown eyes. I don't remember much else, but I feel like I was some sort of soldier, but I felt bad about being a soldier, since it meant that I couldn't spend time with the woman I described.

I also have unpleasant memories about being in a factory. Actually, these aren't really memories. It feels more like the feeling when you can't remember a word...does that make sense? Whenever I go into an industrial-looking building, I feel deeply uneasy. I feel like a memory of something unpleasant is trying to make its way out. I've had a lot of dreams about walking through an abandoned factory, and also dreams about working in other factories. I've never actually set foot in a factory or an abandoned building, but I seem to remember them pretty vividly.

I hope this doesn't sound too crazy. If these sound like past life memories, I'd love to know how to remember more details. I consider myself to be agnostic, but I've been interested in the concept of reincarnation for some time, mainly because of these memories.

Yes, these do sound like past life memories. Start keeping a journal and write everything down. Have you read any books about reincarnation? When you browse through this website you will see a list of recommended books. There is also a video archive section. To remember more about your past lives you can try doing self regressions using either meditation or hypnosis. There are videos on YouTube for doing that. Brian Weiss has one on YouTube that people have had success with. There are also CD's you can get. What you have described sounds like either 1940's or 50's. Do you think it was in the U.S.? Or a foreign country? BTW, you are not alone. Most people here had memories or flashbacks since childhood. As long as I can remember I had an image in my mind of a building that I had never seen or actually been to in this life. I think now it was in France during WWI.

Thank you! I'll look into the resources you mentioned. I do feel like it was some time between the 40's and early 60's. I think that's why I have the feeling that the woman may still be alive. I'm pretty sure that it was in the US, but I'm not certain, since none of the memories have any specific details or language.

I also have another feeling sometimes. This one is weirder. I'll suddenly feel extremely dizzy, and as if I'm doing something that just...isn't supposed to be happening at this point. Sometimes I'll feel intense deja vu. It happens when I go through various life milestones, minor and major. It has happened when I was introduced to family members as a child, when I went to my sister's wedding, when I looked at pornography for the first time as a preteen (weird example, sorry), when I got my first job, and various other examples that I'm sure I'm forgetting. The other day, it happened when I touched and unbuttoned a baby onesie (something I'd never really done before). Is this possibly related? I've never heard anyone ever talk about this, and it's another thing that I've wondered about for years.

Do you have psychic abilities? Sounds like you might be an "empath". Many people who remember past lives also have one or more psychic abilities. They seem to go together.

Not that I know of. I have been curious about empaths, though. I usually feel very little empathy towards any humans - I think I mostly block it out. Sometimes, if I'm next to someone who's upset, I'll suddenly start crying, even if I have no connection to whatever is making them upset, and even if I barely know the person. If I don't put up "walls" - as in, distancing myself from people and my emotions - I feel their emotions. This is very disturbing to me, since I feel like the emotions are not my own, and I have little control over them. They feel like emotions that are intruding into my mind.

I'm also very close to animals. I always, always know how my pets are feeling. I've asked people about this, and been told that this is just normal empathy. Are these empath-like things?

Another weird thing that I just remembered - I sometimes remember little "tidbits." I don't know how to describe these. They come to me randomly and uncontrollably. They don't seem to be connected to my main memories. It'll be little things - like someone I don't know saying one word to me, or taking a step down an unfamiliar street...it's very disturbing to me just because of the uncontrollable aspect. They feel like little bits of someone else's experiences. They're extremely realistic, and they make me get the dizzy feeling sometimes. I don't know what these are. I've only had this for a few months. I seriously don't know if this is related.

Hi WonderHow

Welcome to the forum.

You are in the right place to explore all this.

1. No you're not going crazy. :)

2. Yes, other people have this 'funny feeling' sometimes that things are 'strangely familiar'.

3. This is a perfectly natural thing. Nothing to do with 'religion' as it's commonly understood anyway.

Flashbacks. Visions. Waking dreams... Yes. This happens to a lot of people, but not everyone talks about it, but it is part of life all the same. No. You are not alone. Past life memories are just 'below the surface' for a lot of people, it's just not everyone knows what's happening. The most common recurring theme in all these lives is lost loved ones. So, nothing in the least bit odd about any of this. Love is ...

The memories of her make me feel sad. I have this feeling that she was very important to me, and that I feel very sad for leaving her. I feel like I need to talk to her and tell her that I love her. Please take a look around in the forum FAQs and you will find a lot of interesting info there that will answer a lot of the basic questions. But feel free to ask as many questions as you like as well. Everyone's journey is unique.

Again. Welcome

These are signs of an "Empath". "Empaths" are able to sense the emotions of those around them. If you don't understand what is going on it can make you sick. For example, if you enter a room and someone there has a headache, you will get the headache and think it's yours. There are ways of shielding yourself from these "outside" emotions. There are also videos on YouTube about Empaths and how to shield yourself.

Thought I'd give a small update...I've remembered a few new things that I think might be related.

The "tidbit" memories I mentioned...I've gotten them a few times since I mentioned, and they're a lot less unpleasant when I don't try to fight them. In fact, they're pretty fascinating! I've had a lot of small ones - running through grass, talking to people I haven't met, hearing someone say one word, etc. Sometimes realistic scents, feelings, or voices will accompany them for a second or two.

I'll describe the two most notable ones that replayed in my head for a while. In the first one, I'm a little boy, maybe 3-5 years old. I'm crawling up some carpeted stairs in a dimly lit living room. There's a small TV in the back of the room. I can hear two women talking in English. I feel like they're talking about my baby brother, and how my big brother (who I feel is maybe 8-9 years old) is doing in school. For reference, in my current life, I only have one brother, and he's much older than I am. I'm also 90% sure I've never been in a house like that.

In the second one, I'm older - maybe 6-8 years old. I'm in a brightly lit, rectangular living room of some sort. My family members are all sitting in front of a much larger TV and talking loudly. I look at a little girl, wearing a baggy, old fashioned dress. I feel like she was my sister? After that, I look to the side. There's an ornate magazine rack by the couch that's full of worn books and board games. That's where it ends.

As for picking up on others' feelings - as hard as it is for me, I've been trying to just let it happen. It's pretty interesting. I guessed that my mother was upset without looking at her a couple of weeks ago. When my niece was sad and crying a few days ago, I felt a deep sadness inside of me that was definitely not my own (I was literally happy and sad at the same time). I've felt other feelings while going by strangers, but haven't had a chance to confirm anything. Pretty fascinating.

Was the TV turned on? Was the picture on the TV black and white or color? Most TV sets in the 50's and 60's were only black and white picture. Color TV became affordable in the 1970's. The UK was a bit later than the U.S. on color tv but not by much.

See, that was the first thing I tried to figure out too. Unfortunately, both times, I had my back turned to the TV. I don't really have any memory of the TVs themselves. All I know is that people were watching them. I was more interested in playing. I'll try to focus on it a bit more - perhaps it would let me know more about the time period and country.

Edit - oh, and one funny thing I forgot to mention in my last post. I'm a young woman with dark brown hair currently. I realized that every time I put on long, full dresses and curl my hair a little, it reminds me of the woman I seem to remember. I sometimes have a moment where I feel like I'm looking at her in the mirror, which makes me feel quite distant from my current life! I should really try dressing up as her sometime, if I can figure out how to do her hairstyle. Maybe I'd remember more.

That would be normal for a 2 or 3 year old.
