Could I be an "old soul"?

I've always been considered different, both in my family and in school and in my college, where I currently live. I've been told by my teachers at college that I have a very advanced sense of humor, and people my age usually don't get my jokes. But older mature people always get them straight away. I've always been socially awkward (mostly because of my autism), and was being bullied at school. I've never understood people in general, and I prefer listening to songs with a deeper meaning. I don't like most of the modern songs (rock is heaven to me!), but there are a few exceptions. But my parents always tell me that I act immature, and sometimes I might even act like I am WAY younger than I actually am, especially when I'm angry and sad. I've always preferred to talk to adults as a kid. I didn't like to talk with the other kids because... I don't really know. So I'm confused because I have some "old soul vibes" but I can still act like a child. What do you think about this?

You're a normal person with past life experiences that contribute to your strengths and still some areas that you're developing or discovering for yourself. No matter how skilled you are in one area, it doesn't mean you will be just as advanced in another.

"Old soul" is primarily a basic label for a group of traits some people have in certain situations (but not every situation). I doubt that being an "old soul" is a rare thing, and I think someone who is labeled "new" might just be discovering something they haven't learned before.

For example: You can take someone who is a highly advanced mathematician and insert them into a classroom full of artists, and they are likely to be confused, overwhelmed, easily frustrated, and out of their depth while trying to follow the directions of the art teacher. This doesn't mean they aren't mature or very skilled, it means they are encountering a new situation and haven't yet developed a pattern of response, practiced the art skills, or learned the terminology and mental framework needed to fit in with this particular social group.

In your past lives you probably developed a keen sense of humor and possibly brought some of the insight you developed back then into this life, just like some people seem to instinctively know how to dance or play an instrument. But that doesn't mean you won't encounter new social situations, information, and relationships that function completely differently than before, and not know how to handle them yet.

You're also in a new body and it comes with its own social influences, chemistry, instincts, and patterns. It's okay to be young every time you're born, and to go through all the normal confusion, development, and discovery that young people go through. It doesn't mean that your soul is somehow "less" than any other. It just means you're in this life right now, not any other, and you have new choices to make and more areas where you can experiment and grow. That's a good thing.

Great answer MD. That's a good way of looking at it.

I'll second that, nice reply Mere Dreamer. "Old Soul" gets kicked around a lot. I've been called one my whole life (this time). I know now it has everything to do with past lives and traits that have followed me, or, as I believe, have marked my soul. Blessing on your journey Gagagirl.

Thanks for your replies! I really appreciate it!

I know that this is off topic, but I have another question. Ever since I was child I have had an unexplainable pain in my legs that would occasionally come and go. Doctors could not explain it, and I got some Vitamin pills that should help, but they didn't do much. After discovering my WWII past life I noticed that I don't have the pain anymore. Do you think it's possible the pain could be connected to that past life?

Yes - sometimes physical pain can be associated with past life trauma or injury. $P$

Thank you Deborah. My pain has been gone in months now!

Today I was very frustrated because I barely have friends. I told my mother that it always has been much easier for me to talk to people who are WAY older than me. My mother told me it's because I'm a very empathic person and I know how to act properly in social situations - older people know that also. But it is mostly because of my autism. Sometimes young people make cliques where only "special" people are able to fit in. I've never understood the concept with cliques, but that's fine. I don't want to be in cliques where people have to act in specific ways in order to be more popular.

Does it really matter who is an "old soul" and who isn't? After all, if we have learnt something with reincarnation is that our age doesn't matter, what matters is what we experienced. There is 90 year old people who never got out of their house and 30 year old people who have done everything. Who will be more wise? Also, by saying something is "old" we're measuring it in human time, how old is really "old" in the spiritual world? Maybe you are wiser than most of your peers, but maybe most of your peers are just really thick and the same age-group in other another part of the world or another city suits you better. It doesn't necessarily have to do with being an "old" or "young" soul, whatever that would actually mean.

I suppose maybe some people feel it or show it more than others? It's the eyes and a certain softer way of speaking, wisdom I guess?

My parents were told that I was an old soul when I was very young. I was very quiet and serious from birth. From the time I could look out a window I was mesmerized by all the forms of nature, and also had a super curiosity of things. And all through my years I've had people say I was an old soul. Even an astrology chart I had done a few years ago said I was an old soul, even that this life could be my last one.

I'd never given any of it any thought until the past ten years, after I'd made the journey back to before the beginning of this life, looking for the real me, and how I was perceived by people. I'd taken care of my mother five years as she lost her mind to Alzheimer's and in the first few months after I'd moved back to my home town, a flood of memories returned to me - memories I never knew had been gone. I hadn't realized the extent of the memories until quite a few years later because only one had came up in my mind. I'd discovered the rest when I began my self journey after my mother was beyond my ability to care for her.

It was on this journey that I became aware of my whole being; the underlying knowledge I had that was just under the surface that I couldn't access, but also feeling about various conditions in the world and how I felt about them as opposed to what a great majority of people feel, my relatives included. Examples being my feeling of connection to every human being on the planet; and every condition among them. Wars of any kind I find abhorrent and evil; I see the many actions of people in general as their experiencing what that particular life time was about, I understand it all is just the things I've already experienced, just as other are experience these thing now. A real conundrum.

I've mentioned on this forum before that I believe we incarnate to experience every action, activity, type of person, etc., that has ever been. So even with my life now, which has been unbelievably brutal in many aspects, and I've lived with many conditions many would find unbelievable of impossible, I remain calm. I did tell my physician a few years ago, in relation to my health issues, that I felt I was the Comic's petri dish with all the strange conditions I have that has never been diagnosed, along with three that have been, and any one of which could cause my death.

In spite of everything, I feel that while I might be an old soul - the earliest past life that has come to me, was in Pompeii during Vesuvius's eruption, dating back to the 600s or 800s. Between then and now, I could have lived many lives if, like my last incarnation was in just forty-four years. Old soul or not, I am aware there is still much for me to learn or experience, so I have no doubt that I'll return.

Gagagirl, What is being an old soul? A lot of people think they are different or experience the feeling they don't fit in.
From my point of view these people are just not grounded, and not connected. Souls have no age, they just exist.
I do think it is important to make connections with people from your soulgroup, or from other groups but sharing the same kind of vibration. It makes life easier and more interesting.
The quickest way to find each other is just Being You*. And yep, that's the hard part as well. It may take some years, but investing in yourself is never a waste of time. But you start radiating yourself, and one by one your own people will show up.
Don't bother about 'acting' mature or childish.. skip all the expectations, just enjoy yourself living. Make connections, not only with 'special' people, because once you to start to relate, you'll discover everybody is special in his or her own way of being. And than, when you communicate on a soul level, you know you do fit in. And everybody is an old soul and a young soul at the same time.

* I presume you are young, so I tell you what this means: follow your passions: music, career choice, self awareness, soul searching, sport, being a party animal, trying to be the best (to find your limits), failing now and than (to find your limits) just enjoy doing the things you are passionate about, that's enough

I found out about last year I am older then this world. Which I found weird, but given the concept of interdimentional traveling and the idealism of other dimensions given the right of creatures beyond this one. I have found that I am indeed, an ancient soul.
