Can a soul incarnate into a body at any age?

I read something today that implied some souls can enter a body at any age if the previous soul doesn't need it anymore. It was called a walk-in or something...like a soul exchange but both souls have to agree. Has anybody ever heard of this?

I ask because it reminded me of an incident that happened to me when I was younger. I remember sitting on the school bus heading home and I had this overwhelming feeling of being me... like I was waking from a coma or something. I remember touching my skin and looking around thinking that I was me and not the other kids on the bus...that I existed. It was a very enlightening moment in my life and many of my memories before that moment are very fuzzy.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Just curious. :)
 
I have never heard of it happening voluntarily, probably because it is not exactly the kind of thing people who have done it tend to talk about.


Where it happens involuntarily it is called 'being possessed', which would get us into a discussion of ghosts and evil spirits in general and matters I think beyond the scope of the forum.

Walk-ins have been discussed on this forum in the past, but they are considered a New-Age concept and a bit of a gray area, have you tried using the search facility to look for other discussions on this subject?


Nobody seems to know the purpose of a walk-in, other than it being an agreement by two souls prior to birth at a pre-arranged time, usually when one soul has completed their 'life experience' early, and is ready to move on, leaving the body vacant for the other soul to 'walk-in' .... or so I've read, I personally have an open mind on this topic.


How it affects the physical person is similar to your description, you don't get the sensation of suddenly becoming 'someone else', but maybe a subtle change in personality, feeling different with no explanation, and perhaps a hazy memory of 'your' (their) past before a certain point in time. This is not to say that you have experienced a walk-in, there could be a number of other explanations as well.
 
What I read, wasn't about possession but that sometimes a soul might leave a body early because it learned it's lesson or realizes that it won't learn it's lesson and occasionally, another soul will ask permission to take that soul's place. From what they said, it's very rare and usually a short life.


I don't believe this happens but I was just curious if anyone has heard of such a thing.


Chris, sorry if it was already discussed in detail. I did do a search and couldn't find the topic before I posted but thanks for the reply. There is a lot of info on the forum and it can be hard to find exactly what you're looking for. I'm new to researching reincarnation so I may ask questions that have already been discussed. There is just so much info, it's mind-boggling and I'm trying to stay away from the new-age stuff and stick with what I feel and believe. The walk-in scenario interested me and I was curious if it was a well known thing or not.

Ruth Montgomery wrote about Walk-in's in the late 1970's. I find the idea a bit scary.
 
I think all of us, at one time or another, have experienced moments of intense awareness, often while driving or riding in some kind of vehicle. It's a strange and, sometimes intense realization; and it may have been that some people could experience one of these moments in a very intense way.


This same sensation is sometimes experienced when certain parts of the brain are stimulated; and the effect has been experienced by "research subjects" in psychoactive drug research.


Personally, I have a hard time with the concept of "walk-ins", because it cannot be studied in any scientific manner, as is possible with Reincarnation, Telepathy, Remote Viewing, and in some cases Mediumship.


However, in a quantum world, I would suppose that anything is possible. But, oftentimes, the simplest explanation of brain chemistry might actually be the best.
 
Traditionally, when the soul leaves the body and the silver cord is broken, death follows. There is an instance of Edgar Cayce saying that The Master (Jesus) did reconnect the silver cord of the dead that he brought back to life.


The silver cord tradition is far older than the "walk in" thinking and if the "walk in" was even a possibility then I would think that narrative would be as solid as the silver cord narrative and it would have come down to us from the ancients.


I know there are instances of personality transformation that are inexplicable but I think they are just that - inexplicable.
 
I was rather hesitant to post, but I found this thread and wanted to say Hello.


I understand this forum is for 'reincarnation via birth' and so will not say much, other than that of I being a 'walk-in soul' myself and that it is rather comforting to see others being 'open' towards it - because fear doesn't help.

There is a point in our lives when we really wake up to being ourselves. Mine happened on my second birthday. I don't think there's a certain time frame for it, it may just be when everything settles and we are really ready to pay attention to living in the present moment. Does it have to do with reincarnation? A possibility, perhaps we are attached to our old personas and suddenly completely let them go and accept our new lives. I think that is far more likely than being the experience of a new soul taking over.


I have discussed walk ins with several people who feel they have walk in souls. Let's just say most left me with less of a feeling of confidence in their stories than usual cases of recall. I am not implying that would be true in all cases, I don't know. But in my experience something was always off about the stories.
 
When we first incarnate into the womb, we need time to connect with the brain of our physical body. I personally dismiss such suggestions that walk-ins are possible. The reason for our lives is to learn, not to give up, swap, ect.

It gives an excellent treatise on 'walk-ins'.

It really makes you think doesn't it? I wonder if theres a tie with walk-ins and parallel universes. Perhaps it's apart of your soul left behind. Then when the time comes to heal yourself, you are joined together in a zen-like state.
