Anyone know about rock musicians giving a guitar away from the stage?

My son dreamed last night that he was at "the largest rock concert ever" and was part of the crowd closest to the stage. He said the "main guy on stage" gave him his guitar.

This is totally out of dream-character for a kid who dreams of explosives half the time, and could care less about rock concerts.

He said the guy next to him in the crowd offered him $20 for the guitar, but that he laughed at him and kept it. He knew the musician had never given away a guitar before, and that this alone made it valuable.

I know very little about rock concerts and such, so help me out here? Apparently there aren't lists of guitars given away in concert on google... heh! My son just turned 15.
 
Ha! Interesting. So they actually do stuff like that, huh? I'll have to see if photos of them on stage remind him of the dream.
 
I think that does happen once in a while. Those guys have more than one guitar. Probably don't give away the best or favorite.
 
He said the musician was blonde with spiked hair, but then wouldn't look at photos because he was more into his game than remembering his dream. I noticed that the singer with The Who was blonde, but his hair was more curly than spiked, so maybe that's not the right situation after all.


For someone who says he can't remember the dream, he's pretty clear about the looks of the musician. He said they'd have to be really famous in order to play in front of a crowd that size because it was a huge concert.


Since he's not into reincarnation I have to be careful how I present information, so I'm out of ideas how to talk to him about it.... He thinks I'm weird for looking up real musicians in the first place. Heh!


Maybe I can play the songs or something and see if he reacts to that.
 
If he had blonde spiked hair, then I would be looking at the late 70's through mid 80's. Billy Idol had blonde spiked hair, but I'm not sure if he played the guitar or just sang. You could also try checking out the line-up of the Live Aid concerts in London and Philadelphia in 1985 as that was a huge event in its time. Having said that, there are several music festivals each year around the world which attract crowds in the hundreds of thousands, and they've been going ever since the 60's so that's a lot of possibilities for you.

I'm beginning to think it must have been in the seventies and eighties, and the more I research the more I realize that there have been some massive concerts in this world. Wow!


I've tried searching for many of the famous blonde rocker's names along with terms like "gave guitar" and such, but I keep coming up with modern musicians like Billie Jo Armstrong of Green Day in the search results.


Ah, well. It's not like he cares whether it was a past life dream. It was just so out of context for his usual that I couldn't help but be curious.
 
I hate to be discouraging, but if this were to have happened, and in a large stadium or arena, no less, it would have been noted and remarked upon. Musicians of all stripes form a relationship with their gear. Touching their instruments without permission is a big no-no, akin to inappropriately touching his girlfriend. Seriously. It would be highly unusual for a guitar player to give away his guitar.

That's the impression I'm getting, too. Not something that would happen in such a large crowd. Ah, well. Dreams are strange things.
 
Maybe you can show him a few pictures of hairstyles to know what kind of hairstyle we're talking about here.


I'd ask him about how he got the guitar too. Your son says he was given the guitar, was it thrown into the crowd? Did the musician give it to him after the show? When he says it was a big show, how big was it? Is he talking about the crowd? Has your son been to any shows in this life?


You don't have to answer these. It would be easier for you to narrow down the time period and plausibility if you know more specifics.

Not true. Musicians can be very attached to their gear but it's not unheard of for them to break guitars or throw them into the crowd. Just a quick Google search shows Matt Bellamy (from Muse), Zakk Wylde and Prince all doing it. I'm sure I've seen pictures and footage of other musicians doing similar things before as well.


It's not the most common ocurrence (a good guitar costs money, after all) but musicians get carried away sometimes. LOL

He phrased it as "the musician gave me his guitar" not "I caught a guitar that was thrown" and said the concert was "the biggest ever with millions of people". I'm sure quite a few have marketed themselves with that thought, but it does narrow things down a little.


I asked him if the hair was curly and poofy and he said, "no, it was spiked" ... which means pointing straight up to his mind.


He's never been to a concert (outside of his small church ... definitely nowhere near rock), and mostly listens to mixes or covers of popular songs on YouTube (and has no interest in concert recordings or often even the original versions of songs).


His primary interests in life are the history of weapons, ancient Rome, and Minecraft ... with a mild interest in Japanese anime. (This is partially why the dream surprised me so much.)
 
I asked about his experiences with shows in this life because to someone who hasn't been to big shows in this life, they'd look bigger by comparison :D


The musician handing him the guitar in such a big show seems complicated. I'm not saying it's impossible but it seems more likely at a smaller show.


If the show was really as big as he describes it as he's not exaggerating or having trouble with his wording, I learn to this being just a dream or being a dream with past life elements thrown in.

This could have been a British group. Maybe 1980s or 90s? One thing you could try is google British rock musicians and let him look at the pictures.

In that time period, it could have been American or from anywhere else in the world. Spiky hairstyles have been popular in some subcultures for a while now.
 
My ex husband is a walking encyclopedia of Rock N Roll. If you like I can ask him. He should be aware of it and might know who it was from the description.
