A Relationship Pattern over multiple lives?

The other night I asked my guides to help me figure out why I'm so stuck these days. (feeling very held-back from moving forward) After a few surreal visions that gave me a new perspective, I found myself in another past life.

I'm a boy, being choked up against a stone wall in a ruin by a man much bigger than I am. I realize it's my father. (Had to check and make sure I could still breathe because I could actually feel his forearm against my throat and nearly passing out.)

He let go and while I'm stumbling and gasping tells me not to follow him, or else, then goes out into the fields. I'm really concerned he's doing something that will hurt him/our family so I follow anyway and he ends up choking me to death in a ditch. While he's doing it, he tells me it's my fault for following him.

So I follow him as a spirit as he runs off to a woman in this dingy town of stone buildings and straw roofs, dirt/cobblestone streets. And I know he's going to "find" my body later and be all "Murder!" and get all sorts of sympathy.

I realize I can't protect my mother now that I'm dead, but I go check on her. She's doing needlework in our cottage, rocking beside a small window, and my baby sister sees me and laughs when I smile at her. She doesn't know I'm dead. Even the pet notices me and licks my hand before I'm pulled backward over the fields and woods.

Then I'm in the dark and I see this heavy cord from my heart, still connected to my father ... who was my X husband and tried to stifle/smother me virtually/emotionally in this life, also? Interesting pattern there. (I did my best to comply with his threats for years, too.)

I realized I was attempting to control him, feeling responsible for his choices, and wanting to prevent his actions from hurting others ... both in that life and this. That fear/controlling desire was binding me to him and draining me, so I wanted to cut it and be free.

Guidance took out a sword and chopped it off, right at my heart, then healed the hole. I no longer felt the residual asthma-pressure from the choking glimpse earlier.

I spent the last ten years learning not to let my X "choke me" while still rejecting his attempts to persuade me his choices were right/good. This desire to control or limit the effects of his choices by setting myself as the guardian between him and the world is a repeat pattern that I have slowly begun to notice in other relationships also.

It's the root of several emotional conflicts over the past year or two, even with my closest friends ... wanting to protect them from their pain or straining to keep them from making decisions that might hurt them ... trying to push my insight on them instead of respecting their need to learn things on their own and find their own strength.

This past life was a literal illustration of how I might have brought this emotional pattern into this life. I certainly feel like I finally have "let go" of that need to somehow buffer the world from my X so I can leave him to his own lessons.

It takes a long period of time to emotionally separate from an ex. I hope your tie has been severed, now and forever. Those patterns do follow us from life to life. You can move into healthier patterns, now that it has been recognized. I think certain ways of being are inherent in the soul from life to life, but hopefully we can change, even if it takes centuries.

I was struck by the familiarity I felt with your cutting of the cord connecting you to your ex. An ex-fiancé and I maintained a corded tie over nearly two decades and when I realized that connection was a) still there, and b) a hindrance to her advancement and mine, I too was assisted in energetically cutting it and the effects were nearly instant.

Ours was a relationship based in past familiarity, though not subject to a repeating pattern.

I am working on the details of a few past lives which, while exhibiting a fairly clear occupational pattern, carry less specifically relationship-based patterns. I am still at work on the panoply of players involved, though I feel confident those participating with me in those lives will become recognizable the closer I get to them.

Usetawuz, it's an interesting image, isn't it? I've been thinking of my positive connections as a conduit for sending friends healing or encouragement, but I only recently realized that similar connections (with damaging or old relationships) can be a negative and a drain on my strength, also.

I read the other day about cutting cords once you recognize your part in the negative cycle ... so it wasn't surprising that it turned up in this PL experience, now that I have the mental image to draw on.

I was surprised at how tangible and real the cord and the cut seemed. There was a physical transition.

BriarRose, I think once we really see the pattern and the part we play in creating it, then we have the chance to transition to a new area of growth and that particular problem no longer controls us.

Sometimes it may take centuries to reach that point (who knows?) but it feels good to be in the life where I end that particular pattern?... as I see it now, anyway. :)

Thank you for posting that. Tonight I shall ask my guides the same question. I have a feeling that a cord cutting is in order as well ... perhaps two cords.

I'm curious now, Mama2HRB, what changes you see in yourself afterward.

I'm feeling much more positive, now.

... though I've also found several other cords that are holding me back ... and of course I chose the largest and most consuming to start with!!! This time, it seems to be something about allowing people/groups? with power to demand my compliance "against my will" (only I choose to give in resentfully, in the end) ... or at least that's the flavor of the glimpses so far. Come to think of it, I had a major breakthrough with standing up to just this sort of situation with my church a couple years ago. (like leaving a cult, really) Maybe that's why I have the chance to work through this problem now?

It's turning into a much longer process than a simple regression, and I'm still not sure what everything I'm experiencing has to do with that particular attachment. But it's an interesting mystery ... and I think it works better when I don't know what to expect ahead of time.

Hi Mere Dreamer

I went back to bed yesterday after getting the kiddo off to school yesterday because I write through the night. For some reason I just do better in the wee hours. Anyway, when I laid down I asked why I am still connected to my xH and my first love. I was amazed at how quick the answer came. I was given the name of a town in West Virginia (and kept thinking I should write it down but did not have pen and paper nearby) and was told "because they were brothers"

I was then walked through the town, down the middle of the streets, almost as if I was given a tour of the town. It was not modern buildings that I saw but not awfully old ones either. Of course, West Virginia probably has many areas where the towns are quite old. It seemed to be a downtown area.

I plan to ask again tonight and see if I can get further with it. It really was quite cool.

As for changes in me moving forward, it is about cutting the cords to these two men. Both have done many many things to hurt me emotionally, physically and financially and yet I am still nice to them. I share children with the xH, of course, but they are nearly grown.

This will be a process. I don't know why it is happening now but I am sure this when it was supposed to happen. I learned a long time ago there are no coincidences.

Best wishes to you!

Sometimes the cords we think have been cut, come back to hit us, like "bungee cords" that snap. I thought all ties to my ex were severed years ago, but now he is in poor health, and having amputations, from complications of Diabetes. It is troubling - I must have loved that leg once!

Oh, how sad, BriarRose. Such news would be difficult to hear about anyone we know, I think. From what I understand of the process, cutting cords doesn't terminate any kindness or love within a relationship ... only the negative and life-controlling parts that drag your emotions around.

I hope you get to the bottom of it, Mama2HRB. I'm glad you aren't still stuck in romantic relationships with them. What an interesting reason you were given!

I like calling them "coincidences" with an inner knowing grin and a nod upward. "Uhuh! I see what you did there!"
